Donald Trump's win is perceived as a significant turning point for digital assets. The cryptocurrency industry expects a massive switch in policy. Investors anticipate Trump to deliver on campaign promises with the projected republican majority in Congress.

This includes appointments of crypto-friendly officials across regulatory agencies and pro-crypto executive orders. Business experts say that Trump will act on his pledge as a "Crypto president" and he will use executive orders to prevent banks from blocking crypto firms.

While the fervour cooled on Thursday & Friday, bitcoin continued its rally and is still close to its record high of 93,000 dollars.

Some analysts now project the OG token to reach the 100,000-dollar mark. The re-election of Trump has set the stage for the adoption of crypto legislation.

Crypto companies were under regulatory scrutiny from the SEC and other agencies during the Biden administration.

Several enforcement actions were implemented, which hindered the industry's growth. A crypto-friendly regulatory environment is something Trump has promised.

Executives from the sector have been pushing for reforms such as the establishment of an advisory council for digital assets. And the appointment of a new chair to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Blockchain and crypto companies like Kraken are optimistic because they see chances to expedite approval processes.

That will help crypto firms to grow without any fears of regulatory interference. Also, trump has promised to fire Gary Gensler, the head of the US Market regulator. Gensler is widely believed to be anti-crypto.

The industry has lobbied pro-crypto congressional candidates, spending over 119 million dollars in the latest election cycle.

The cryptocurrency industry is feeling more optimistic thanks to Trump's ambitious plan for a US Bitcoin strategic reserve.

According to industry executives, a new era will legitimise digital assets in mainstream finance. This may push for more transparency in regulatory mandates and a sturdy crypto economy.

China's dream to have a "strong currency" one which is stable and increasing its influence in global trade is facing new challenges with former US President Donald Trump potentially returning to the White House, restarting trade tensions and adding pressure on the yuan. According to a detailed report published in Bloomberg, analysts predict greater risks for the yuan under Trump's policies.

Years of downward pressure awaits the yuan

Further, as Trump prepares for a possible second term, analysts say years of downward pressure are ahead for the yuan. Investors are already betting against it for fear that another trade war between China and the US is soon to come, the Bloomberg report explained further.

In fact, some believe that by 2025, the yuan may break its 17-year low versus the dollar, with bearish forecasts suggesting a decline of up to 10 per cent. The yuan's flaws today far outweigh those seen in the previous trading war. Yields for Chinese government bonds are now much lower than those of the United States, foreign investments have shrunk, and China's economic growth is still up in the air, making it an even tougher currency to handle, the Bloomberg report explained further.

"We don't expect a renewed contest of wills between the PBOC and the US Treasury anytime soon," says emerging markets economist Adam Wolfe. But if it escalated to a full-blown trade war, the PBOC would allow the currency to erode further for exports to improve and to create a stronger position in bargaining with America. Already this is causing traders to place bets against the yuan. The onshore yuan touched its lowest in three months on Nov. 14 as major financial institutions forecasted the currency was likely to drop to its low point against the dollar at 7.351.

Analysts predict the yuan will stabilize at 7.5 against the dollar if Trump goes with his plan to impose 60 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods, as he has previously suggested. Others, for example, UBS and Societe Generale, predict further depreciation by year's end. Possible exchange rates hit as high as 7.60-7.70 in 2025. The worst-case sees yuan value at 8 per dollar-a level that was last, uh, written for in 2006.

Weaker yuan is expected to boost exports

Another key question is how the PBOC will react. So, a weaker yuan will boost exports, but letting the currency fall too far might hamper economic stability, trigger capital flight, and invite international criticism. Large devaluation may reignite accusations that it is using monetary policy for competitive devaluation after all when it let the daily fixing rate of the yuan drop 1.9 per cent in 2015, leading to a huge outflow of capital and depletion of foreign reserves.

While outright devaluation is still unlikely and comes with a number of risks, it has been fine-tuning its foreign exchange policy. These have included stronger daily fixing rates, adjustments in bank reserve requirements, and the encouragement of state-owned banks to better manage offshore market liquidity. These policies might perhaps mitigate some of the damage from US tariffs.

Interestingly, Trump's own desire for a weak dollar may ironically aid China. Weakening of the greenback would enable it to purchase more goods made in the United States, thereby potentially diminishing somewhat the effect of the levied tariffs on Chinese exportation. Still, analysts on Wall Street aren't convinced that Trump's policies will undo sufficiently enough as to really weaken the dollar.

Xi Jinping's hope of turning the yuan into a global currency will be tested. Faster depreciation of the yuan may risk this dream, forcing attention away from much-needed long-term financial soundness toward more short-term economic relief. China is adrift during these trying times, and its currency, along with its ambitions on the global map, remain shrouded in uncertainty, added the Bloomberg report.

Market participants and global investors will closely follow the US-China relationship going ahead. This will help them in taking informed investment decisions, because a possibility of a long-drawn trade war will result in global investors turning defensive.

Former President Donald Trump's team is reportedly preparing a list of Pentagon officers to be dismissed, should he return to office. The move is seen as part of his broader strategy to reshape the military leadership, with a focus on removing officials he deems disloyal or ineffective. The plan has raised concerns about potential political interference in military affairs.

Trump's Team Drawing Up List Of Pentagon Officers To Fire

Members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are drawing up a list of military officers to be fired, potentially to include the Joint Chiefs of Staff, two sources said, in what would be an unprecedented shakeup at the Pentagon.

The planning for the firings is at an early stage after Trump’s Nov. 5 election victory and could change as Trump’s administration takes shape, said the sources, who are familiar with the Trump transition and requested anonymity to speak candidly about the plans.

One of the sources questioned the feasibility of a mass firing at the Pentagon.

It was also unclear if Trump himself would endorse the plan, although in the past he has railed extensively against defence leaders who have criticised him.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The second source said the incoming administration would likely focus on U.S. military officers seen as connected to Mark Milley, Trump’s former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Milley was quoted in the book “War” by Bob Woodward, which was published last month, calling Trump “fascist to the core” and Trump’s allies have targeted him for perceived disloyalty to the former president.

“Every single person that was elevated and appointed by Milley will be gone,” the second source said.

“There’s a very detailed list of everybody that was affiliated with Milley. And they will all be gone.”

The disclosure of plans to fire senior leaders of the U.S. armed forces comes a day after Trump picked Pete Hegseth, a Fox News commentator and veteran who has signalled a willingness to clean house at the Pentagon, as his defence secretary.

“The next president of the United States needs to radically overhaul Pentagon senior leadership to make us ready to defend our nation and defeat our enemies. Lots of people need to be fired,” Hegseth said in his 2024 book “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free.”

It is unclear if Hegseth’s lack of management experience could complicate his Senate confirmation and if a more traditional alternative for the position would carry out such sweeping dismissals.

Hegseth has also taken aim at Milley’s successor, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, asking whether he would have gotten the job if he were not Black.

“Was it because of his skin color? Or his skill? We’ll never know, but always doubt - which on its face seems unfair to CQ. But since he has made the race card one of his biggest calling cards, it doesn’t really much matter,” he wrote.

The first source familiar with the transition planning said Brown would be among the many officers to leave.

“The chiefs of the Joint Chiefs and all the vice chiefs will be fired immediately,” the source said, before noting that this was still only early planning.

Some current and former U.S. officials have played down the possibility of such a major shakeup, saying it would be unnecessary and disruptive at a time of global turmoil with wars raging in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The first source said that it would be difficult bureaucratically to fire and replace a large swath of senior U.S. military officials, suggesting the planning could be bluster and posturing by Trump allies.

But the second source suggested the Trump camp believed the Joint Chiefs of Staff needed to shrink due to perceived bureaucratic overreach.

Such cuts could be endured in an organization the scale of the U.S. military, the source said.

“These people are not irreplaceable. They are very replaceable. And then the other thing too is there is no shortage of people that will step up,” the source said.

“In World War Two, we were very rapidly appointing people in their 30s or people competent to be generals. And you know what? We won the war.”

Trump's East Asia Appointments In Spotlight, What's His Game Plan In West Asia?

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly expected to attempt to block a potential US ban of TikTok ahead of a final January deadline, according to multiple sources as detailed in a report by the New York Post.

TikTok is fighting in court to block a federal law that would require the applications China based parent ByteDance to divest its stake or face a total shutdown by January 19, the day before Trump’s inauguration as the new President of the US. The law permits the president to increase the divestment window by 90 days if “significant progress” toward a particular sale is done.

Trump has earlier vowed on multiple occasions that he would “save TikTok” if he was elected the US president, including in a September 4, post on Truth Social.

His protection comes despite the fact that Trump spearheaded an effort to ban the application during his first term in office, the New York Post report explained further. Since winning the election, Trump has not given any statement on whether he would try to stop or curtail a ban.

But Conway, a senior adviser during Trump’s first term, who has initially advocated for TikTok in US Congress over the last year, stated in a conversation with the Washington Post that she anticipates Trump to intervene on the social media firm’s part.

“He appreciates the breadth and reach of TikTok, which he used masterfully along with podcasts and new media entrants to win,” Conway told the Jeff Bezos-owned paper, the New York Post report explained further.

“There are many ways to hold China to account outside alienating 180 million US users each month,” added Conway, who remains close to the president-elect. “Trump recognized early on that Democrats are the party of bans gas-powered cars, menthol cigarettes, vapes, plastic straws and TikTok and to let them own that draconian, anti-personal choice space.”

Trump transition team spokesperson Karoline Leavitt did not immediately respond to the New York Post’s request for comment. However, she responded to questions about Trump’s campaign pledge to save the app in a statement to the Associated Press.

“The American people re-elected President Trump by a resounding margin giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail,” Leavitt said. “He will deliver.”

TikTok declined to comment on the report. Alan Rozenshtein, a former national security adviser to the Justice Department, told the Washington Post that Trump could nudge Congress to repeal the law or even tell his pick for attorney general not to enforce it, elaborated the New York Post further.

A federal appeals court is expected to rule on TikTok’s challenge by Dec. 6, though further appeals could reach as far as the Supreme Court. The appeals could stretch well into Trump’s term in office.

As The Post reported, TikTok’s legal team faced sharp questioning in September from the three-judge panel that will decide the case. The divestment law drew broad bipartisan support in Congress from lawmakers who say that TikTok poses a national security threat. TikTok has denied the allegations and argued that the law violates the First Amendment.

In a March interview with CNBC, Trump stated that he views TikTok as a national security risk, but said he was concerned that a ban would benefit Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook, which he called “the enemy of the people.”

Market participants and investors will closely follow these developments as decisions like these have the potential to shape the future of US-China relations. Investors will look for clues on the potential of tariffs by the Trump administration.
