US President Joe Biden and Republican frontrunner and former president Donald Trump came closer to clinching the respective presidential nominations after 15 states and one US territory cast votes on Super Tuesday. Biden easily won most contests on the Democratic side, while Donald Trump won all but the Vermont state which was claimed by his last remaining rival Nikki Haley.&nbsp;

In early results, Biden and Trump captured wins in their respective primaries in California, Virginia, North Carolina, Maine, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado and Minnesota.&nbsp;

Biden also won the Democratic caucus in Iowa and Vermont but lost American Samoa.

Both Biden and Trump took shots at each other on Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

In his&nbsp;victory speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump hailed the foreign policy record during his presidential years and doubled down on anti-immigration rhetoric.

Trump decried the 'horrible, horrible withdrawal' by the US forces in Afghanistan in August 2021, and described it as a "surrender".

"I got rid of ISIS 100 per cent," Trump said, referring to the Islamic State terror group, shortly after stating that during his presidential years, Washington got along "very well" with China and North Korea.&nbsp;

Describing Joe Biden as the "worst president in the US history", Trump echoed Adolf Hitler by saying that immigrants entering the US illegally were "poisoning the blood of our country".

"We have people coming in from such, such bad places and we are going to have to get them out. We have murderers that are being deposited into our country. We have drug dealers at the biggest highest levels that coming into our country," he said.

Meanwhile, Haley campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said that her victory in Vermont made her the first Republican woman to win two presidential primary contests.

The result demonstrated deep fractures in the Republican party, Haley's spokesperson added.

"Unity is not achieved by simply claiming 'we're united'," she said.&nbsp;

"Today, in state after state, there remains a large block of Republican primary voters who are expressing deep concerns about Donald Trump. That is not the unity our party needs for success. Addressing those voters' concerns will make the Republican Party and America better."

Trump, Biden look set for possible presidential rematch after easy primary wins

Former President Donald Trump released an over four-minute video response to President Joe Biden's announcement that he will run for the White House again in 2024. Trump took aim at his "damage" and warned that Biden has brought the world to the brink of World War III.

"Biden has totally humiliated our nation on the world stage," Trump said in the four minute 24 seconds message. "Joe Biden has led us to the very brink of World War III."

Biden launched his re-election bid for president with a video in which he promised protection against right-wing extremists and highlighted the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by the supporters of Trump.

Earlier on Monday, Trump took a dig at Biden, saying that "it is almost inconceivable that Biden would even think of running for reelection".

Biden released a video announcing his bid in which he asked voters to extend the run of America’s oldest president for another four years and give him more time to "finish this job".&nbsp;

The three-minute video comes on the four-year anniversary of Biden's 2019 announcement declaring that he is running for the White House.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev also attacked Biden, calling him a senile and "desperate grandpa".&nbsp;

"Biden&nbsp;has taken his decision. A desperate grandpa," Medvedev wrote on Telegram.

"If I was in the place of the US military I would quickly produce a fake briefcase with fake nuclear codes in case he wins so as to avoid irreparable consequences."

But his age makes his re-election bid a historic and risky gamble for the Democratic Party. Americans are concerned since a prospective second term would mean that Biden will be 86 by the end of the term. His approval ratings stood at just 39 per cent in a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on April 19.&nbsp;

About half of US Democrats don't want Biden to seek re-election, saying that he is too old to run, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The three-day opinion poll completed on Monday, a day before Biden announced his re-election bid, showed that the American public is not interested in seeing a repeat of the battle between Biden and Trump. About two-thirds of respondents overall don't either to run again in 2024.
