The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reportedly moving closer to introducing a blanket ban on transgender women competing in female categories across all sports.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry, elected as the first female president, set up a working group on women’s sport protection. Initial scientific findings suggest athletes born male may retain physiological advantages even after testosterone reduction.

While no official decisions have been taken, the ban could be implemented before the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, though it’s unlikely to affect February 2026 Winter Games. The IOC continues discussions on sex eligibility and DSD athletes, aiming to reach a global consensus.

International Women’s day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy, and action. It’s the day to recall the stories of women's struggle for equality, a global day to celebrate the achievements of women in differing arenas.

In our patriarchal society, where the sexually identifiable woman has to fight for her rights and dignity, it seems almost an impossible dream to watch the converted, the trans-women living a life with pride. On International Women's day, it brings immense pride to celebrate the achievements of women as well as call for an action for the improvement of the conditions of women. But its high time that we also talk about trans-women, because they are women too.
