The paid attraction was launched last month and aims to promote the relatively new system and, more generally, encourage young people to take public transport.

It is called "Train to Apocalypse" and is inspired by the 2016 South Korean horror film, "Train To Busan".&nbsp;

Actors are dressed up like zombies, in tattered clothes and on-point make up. One of them even has just the whites of his eyes visible.&nbsp;They then behave like zombies and scare the passengers into running through the dark station tunnels to a train. Once inside, you can hear news about a made-up "Pandora" virus which is turning people into zombies.

Soldiers armed with fake rifles fight the "zombies" and try to escort passengers to safety. But beware, they can reemerge and terrorise you at any time.

"The zombies didn't actually chase us but we were still panicking," said Genesis Christi, a 17-year-old zombie enthusiast told AFP.

The idea behind the entire exercise is to show that taking public transport can be cool and fun. Jakarta has over 30 million people and suffers from heavy pollution and traffic congestion. Its light rapid transit system only began commercial operation in December 2019.

Riding the "Train to Apocalypse" costs 60,000-70,000 rupiah ($4-4.70), until the event ends on Sunday.

The organisers promised the 20-minute ride does not disrupt the trips of regular LRT passengers. Even without participating, they can catch a glimpse of the horror show for free.

Zombies are rising in Jakarta to popularise public transport

South Korean zombie thriller Peninsula, directed by Yeon Sang-ho, is slated to be released in Indian theatres on November 27, Zee Studios and Kross Pictures said on Monday.

'Peninsula' is the sequel to the 2016 hit zombie film Train to Busan, also directed by Yeon.

The decision to release the film in India came days after Maharashtra government allowed reopening of theatres and multiplexes outside coronavirus containment zones from November 5.

Peninsula, which was a major draw at the Korean box office when the country’s theatres resumed activity after COVID-19-induced lockdown, is set four years after the zombie virus outbreak as depicted in Train to Busan. 
The film, starring Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun, follows an ex-soldier who is sent along with his team to retrieve a truck full of money from the wastelands of the Korean peninsula now inhabited by zombies and rogue militia.

Yeon Sang-ho said he imagined what Korea would look like after the outbreak depicted in Train to Busan and what kind of scenarios would unfold.

“It is also the culmination of all the anticipation from fans all over the world. I wanted to tell the story of modern people who live in a rational society, and how they react to a new world enveloped in barbarism and contrasted humanism,” the director said in a statement.

According to Zee Studios CEO Shariq Patel, Korean films have a growing fanbase in India and going by the popularity of its predecessor, Peninsula promises to top that experience.

“We are confident that this film will be one of the best theatrical experiences our audiences will have this year,” Patel added.

Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, CEO of Kross Pictures, said, “We’re thrilled to distribute a Korean film in India in conjunction with Zee Studios and feel privileged that it’s Yeon Sang-ho’s much loved Peninsula, which is one of the biggest hit movies in Korea this year. We hope it will be a great cinema experience for Indian audiences coming out of the long lockdown.”

'Peninsula' was announced as an official Cannes Film Festival 2020 Selection and was set to make its world premiere at the prestigious movie gala, which could not be held in its “original form” in the wake of the pandemic.
