Three new adorable tiger cubs have been spotted in the Sariska Tiger Reserve, nestled in Alwar city in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan.&nbsp;The Tigress ST 12 along with her three new offspring was sighted in the Tal Vriksh range of the reserve.

The sanctuary had faced challenges in tiger conservation. In 2005, it had undergone the loss of its entire tiger population due to poaching and other reasons. However, efforts were made to reintroduce tigers into the reserve, and as of that time, there had been some success in increasing the tiger population.

The spotting of three new cubs is a remarkable development in the sanctuary which teetered on the brink of losing its tiger population. Today, the reserve proudly boasts 25 adult tigers and eight playful cubs.&nbsp;

The joyous news was shared by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

He pointed out the significance of tigers in the ecosystem, highlighting their role as a "unique heritage of nature." CM Sharma also affirmed the government's unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the majestic tiger,&nbsp;a "symbol of strength and beauty."&nbsp;

Notably, the national animal of India is the Panthera tigris, which holds significant cultural and ecological importance in India and is a symbol of strength, power, and grace. It is also one of the most iconic and charismatic species found in India's diverse wildlife.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav also echoed the excitement, taking to X social media platform to celebrate the thriving wildlife of Sariska. He lauded the spotting of Tigress ST 12 with three cubs and said, "My best wishes for a flourishing wildlife in the state of Rajasthan."

India: Tiger population rises as three new cubs are spotted in Rajasthan’s Sariska reserve

India is proud to have 52 tiger reserves across 18 states and accounts for nearly 70 per cent of the global wild tiger population, Indian Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Wednesday.

India is hosting the pre-summit meeting of 14 tiger range countries (TRCs) in New Delhi as a prelude to the Tiger Range Countries Summit scheduled to be held at Vladivostok, Russia on September 5 this year.&nbsp;

The meeting aims to finalise the declaration on tiger conservation to be adopted at the Summit. &nbsp;

"Today, I take pride in sharing with this august gathering the fact that India has 52 Tiger Reserves, covering approximately 75,000 Sq Km area across 18 states. As a Tiger Range Country, the tiger population of India accounts for approximately 70 per cent population of the wild tiger at global level," India's environment minister said in his ministerial address.

The meeting was attended by 12 tiger range countries except for China and Indonesia. As per officials, delegates from these two countries could not attend the meeting due to travel restrictions.

Yadav welcomed the senior officials of TRCs and said that India is happy to host the pre-summit meeting in New Delhi.

He said India is committed to bringing all potential tiger habitats within the country under the tiger reserve network.&nbsp;

"Over the years, India has increased its funding for Project Tiger. We are also working towards a more inclusive conservation effort by involving local communities who live in close proximity to tiger reserves.&nbsp;

"Our efforts to involve local communities proactively in conservation efforts stem from our PM’s call for janbhagidari or public participation," he said.

Apart from India, the meeting was attended by delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand, Viet Nam and Kazakhstan.&nbsp;

India's minister said that for effective management of tiger populations, it is imperative to have reliable estimates of tiger numbers.

"India has been at the forefront of implementing a science based, peer reviewed tiger monitoring methodology approved by the Tiger Task Force. So far, 4 cycles of country wide estimation have taken place and the 5th cycle of All India Tiger Estimation is currently underway," he said.&nbsp;

Pre-summit meeting of tiger range countries held in New Delhi

Tigers are making a spectacular return in Nepal. From 121 big cats in 2010, their population have more than doubled to 355 in 2022, according to the December census unveiled by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at a programme to mark International Tiger Day in Kathmandu on Friday.

With this, Nepal has not only managed to pull off an extraordinary feat, it has also managed to achieve the goal of doubling its tiger population by 2022 as per its commitment, along with 12 other tiger range countries, in the first tiger summit in 2010 in St Petersburg.

Nepal at the time had committed to increase the tiger population to 250 by 2022.

Notably, Nepal is the first of the 13 tiger range countries to release its tiger population figures ahead of the summit due to take place in Vladivostok, eastern Russia, in September, where global conservation efforts of these countries would be evaluated.

A combination of factors has helped the Himalayan country to get to this achievement. According to BBC, Nepal's zero-poaching approach has worked wonders to protect the tigers. The military units have been supporting the national park teams, and in buffer zones next to the park, community anti-poaching units have been monitoring nature corridors that allow tigers to roam safely.

According to the new census, Chitwan National Park now has 128 tigers from 93 earlier, Bardia National Park has 125 from 87 earlier, Banke National Park has 25 and Shuklaphanta National Park has 36 and Parsa National Park has 41, reports the Kathmandu Post.

Though ecological experts have welcomed the spike in tiger numbers, they have also expressed concerns over sustaining them&nbsp;in a habitable environment while averting human-tiger conflict, which has increased in recent years.

According to the Kathmandu-based newspaper, there have been 104 tiger attacks inside protected areas in the last three years, in which 62 people have been killed.

“People are now seeing and encountering tigers everywhere, so cases of tiger-human conflict are increasing. This indicates that the tiger population is almost at a maximum level in Nepal. We are a small country. This increase is a new challenge for the government. Now we need to show tigers and people can coexist,” Shiv Raj Bhatta, a conservation programme director at WWF Nepal, told The Guardian.
