At least 12&nbsp;terrorists were killed in a series of separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Dera Ismail Khan and Panjgur districts in Pakistan, media reports said while quoting statements from the media wing of the Pakistani military.&nbsp;

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday (Apr 6) said that in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's DI Khan district, security forces successfully neutralised eight terrorists during a fierce encounter.

Notably, KP has been a target of terrorist organisations operating both within the region and from across the border. Various militant groups have carried out attacks on security forces, government institutions, and civilians which have led to instability in the region.

ISPR also revealed that the terrorists were heavily armed. Moreover, a cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was seized from their possession.

The ISPR further said that these terrorists were actively engaged in various criminal activities. It included targeting security forces and innocent civilians.

In Balochistan’s Panjgur district, two terrorists named Asad and Hasrat were eliminated in a separate IBO. A cache of weaponry was also&nbsp;recovered.&nbsp;

ISPR in a statement said, “Security forces of Pakistan, in step with the Nation, remain determined to thwart attempts of sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan.”

Moreover, during another operation, two additional terrorists were eliminated as security forces carried out an intel-driven mission in the North Waziristan District.

It is pertinent to note that Pakistan itself has been accused of providing sanctuary and support to various terrorist groups. A suicide attack in Besham, a remote area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on March 26, resulted in the tragic deaths of six individuals, including five Chinese engineers.

The attack occurred as a convoy transporting Chinese engineers was passing by to the Dasu hydroelectric project site from Islamabad. A vehicle laden with explosives, parked on the roadside, was detonated, causing devastation.

This incident marked the second attack on Chinese workers at the same hydroelectric project. A previous terrorist attack in July 2021 claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including nine engineers.

Pakistan security forces eliminate 12 terrorists in three anti-terror operations across country

Pakistani law enforcement agencies have reportedly arrested at least nine terrorists, including a young woman, allegedly belonging to the Islamic State (IS) and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), officials informed on Saturday, a report by PTI stated.&nbsp;

As per a statement, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province arrested nine terrorists. Six of them belong to the TTP and others to the IS.&nbsp;

"The CTD has conducted 42 IBOs (intelligence-based operations) in different districts of Punjab and arrested nine suspects," read the statement as quoted by PTI. &nbsp;

Meanwhile, a recent US State Department report on global terrorism revealed that Pakistan made "limited progress" on the most difficult aspects of its 2015 National Action Plan to counter-terrorism as it had pledged to dismantle terrorist organisations operating inside the country without "delay or discrimination".

The 2020 Country Reports on Terrorism, which was issued on Thursday (December 16), stated that terrorist groups continued to operate from Pakistan regionally.&nbsp;

At least nine terrorists arrested by law enforcement agencies in Pakistan: Officials

The US has reaffirmed its demand that Pakistan abide by its UN Security Council commitments to deny safe havens to terrorists and block their access to funds as it welcomed Islamabad's decision to release the captured Indian Air Force pilot.&nbsp;

In a surprise announcement during a joint session of Parliament on Thursday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman will be released on Friday as a gesture of peace.

Pakistan detained Varthaman Wednesday following a fierce engagement between air forces of the two sides along the Line of Control when his MiG 21 fighter jet was downed.

"We welcome Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's commitment that Pakistan will release on Friday the Indian pilot held in its custody," a State Department spokesperson told responding to a question on the announcement made by Khan in the Pakistani parliament.

Simultaneously, the US has urged both India and Pakistan to take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions.&nbsp;

"The United States continues to urge both sides to take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation, including through direct communication. Further military activity will exacerbate the situation," the State Department spokesperson said.&nbsp;

"We reiterate our call for Pakistan to abide by its United Nations Security Council commitments to deny terrorists safe haven and block their access to funds," the spokesperson said.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on Thursday joined other lawmakers in expressing concern over the escalating tension between India and Pakistan.&nbsp;

"This is "a result of a Pakistan-based terrorist group's brutal attack", he said.

"I urge both countries to de-escalate the mounting tensions," Hoyer said.

Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan in the wake of the February 14 Pulwama attack claimed by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Forty CRPF soldiers were killed in the attack.

India carried out air strikes against the biggest training camp of JeM in Balakot. In the operation, a very large number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commanders and groups of jihadis who were being trained for suicide attacks were eliminated.
