The ruling TRS Saturday slammed the Congress over UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi's attack on it for allegedly failing to meet people's aspirations.

Telangana became a reality not because somebody gave it, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP B Vinod Kumar said.

"When KCR (TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao) undertook fast unto death, (then UPA government) announced on December 9, 2009 (about the formation of Telangana). It would have been better had you implemented properly. But, you withdrew due to pressure from Seemandhra and some influential people. Because of that, hundreds of youths committed suicide in the state (in support of Telangana)," he told reporters.

The congress party would realise on December 11 (the day of counting in the coming Assembly polls) what Telangana people are thinking, he said.

TRS leader and minister in the caretaker government T Harish Rao asked why Sonia Gandhi made no mention of industrial incentives that were reportedly promised (at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh) to Telangana on par with Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, BJP state unit president K Laxman alleged that Sonia Gandhi's visit lacked sincerity towards Telangana.

"Is Congress not responsible for the death of 1400 people (in support of separate Telangana)," he told reporters.

The BJP leader also attacked the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM), alleging that the party has been arrogant.
AIMIM'S only agenda is to stop BJP, Laxman said.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday attacked TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for running a "family rule" in Telangana and "failing" to respond to the aspirations of people of the state.

Sonia Gandhi, on her maiden visit to Telangana after the formation of the state in June 2014, recalled the problems the Congress party faced due to its decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

She said despite being aware of adverse political consequences, the Congress went ahead and created Telangana, and paid the price in the elections that followed.

"It (carving out Telangana) was not an easy task. It was no small decision. But former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party decided to form Telangana state," she told the rally.

BJP president Amit Shah Sunday alleged that the Congress had "neglected" the "son of Telangana" and former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao after his death and sought the response of Rahul Gandhi, the chief of the opposition party, in the matter.

He also alleged that the Congress had not paid appropriate last respects to Rao, who died in 2004, when the party was in power at the Centre.

Addressing a public meeting here in Siddipet district ahead of the December 7 Telangana Assembly polls, Shah asked Gandhi to explain the "kind of treatment" meted out to Rao after his demise.

"Now Rahul Gandhiji is saying everyone should live with love. I want to ask him, when the son of Telangana and our former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao had died, (why) no 'salami' was given to his mortal remains and why were they sent to Hyderabad.

"I want to ask him (Gandhi), why such a treatment was meted out to the son of Telangana," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had accused the Congress in the past also of ignoring the legacy of Rao and humiliating him, which was denied by the opposition party.

During his speech, Shah listed out various welfare schemes launched by the Narendra Modi government in the last four-and-a-half years.

He said the Centre was working for various sections of the society, including the poor, farmers, women, Dalits and tribals.

Crores of toilets and houses were built for the people under the watch of the BJP government, Shah said.

"Our government provided LPG connections to poor women and also ensured electricity. These development works improved the standard of living of over 22 crore families," he added.

Improving the country's security was the biggest work of Prime Minister Modi, the BJP chief said.

"Under the previous UPA government, infiltrators from Pakistan used to enter India but no proper reply was given to them in those 10 years. However, after the Uri terror attack (in 2016), India under Modiji carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan and avenged the killing of our soldiers," he added.

Shah said the respect for India had increased manifold in the world under Modi.

Turning to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government in the southern state, he claimed that the ruling party had failed to implement several welfare programmes of the Centre, including its ambitious health insurance scheme, because it was "scared" that the prime minister might become more popular in Telangana.

Shah accused TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of not extending any help to the farmers in the state, due to which, he said over 4,000 of them committed suicide in the last four-and-a-half years.

Shah said KCR had failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Telangana, including the three-acre land parcel scheme for Dalits.

He appealed to the people to vote the saffron party to power in the upcoming polls as the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the TRS had been elected earlier.

"Give one chance to Modiji and we will transform Telangana into a model state in five years," Shah said.

The 119-member Telangana Assembly will go to the polls on December 7 and the results will be announced on December 11.

Congress neglected ex-PM and 'son of Telangana' Rao post his death: Amit Shah

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not implement several schemes of the Central government because they believed it will make PM Narendra Modi more popular in the state, said BJP President Amit Shah in public rally at Siddipet in Telangana.

Telangana goes to polls on December 7.

KCR government hasn’t been able to fulfil any of its election promises, Shah said.

''Instead of giving employment to 1.60 lakh people, more than 2 lakh seats are lying vacant,'' the BJP leader said.

Earlier addressing a rally in Warangal, the BJP chief said Telangana CM has proposed 12 per cent reservation for the minorities which isn't possible without taking away reservation quotas of SCs, STs or OBCs. BJP is against any reservation on the basis of religion and will not allow anyone else to make this happen, Shah further said.

Telangana govt didn't implement Centre's schemes lest it make Modi popular: Amit Shah

When Telangana Chief Minister KC Rao dissolved the state assembly in September this year, the move was not just indicative of reaping political benefits by de-linking the state elections from next year’s Lok Sabha polls. The creator of free Telangana seemed more than certain of getting a second term.

Undoubtedly, the BJP is desperately trying to win the states which are currently not under its rule, a strategy that will help its cause for the next year’s general elections. Not only will it seek to retain Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan during this year’s Assembly polls, but also try to bag Congress-led Mizoram and overturn Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samiti regime.

But dethroning Rao, who has had his hands gripped on the pulse of his people, can be quite challenging for the saffron party as well as for the Congress, especially when Rao’s report card in the last four years has been impressive.

Chandrashekar Rao earned a Masters degree in English Literature from Osmania University in Hyderabad and started his political journey with the Congress party. He later joined Telugu Desam Party in the year 1983.

Rao went on to become the Union minister for Labour and Employment in the UPA cabinet led by the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. He held various portfolios in Andhra Pradesh cabinet and served as the deputy speaker of the state assembly in the year 2000-2001.

After nearly a couple of decades in politics, Rao decided to take a firm stand for the cause of the people of Telangana. He instituted the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in the year 2001 and managed to realise his dream of achieving statehood for Telangana after fourteen years in 2014.

In its first four years, as the chief minister of India’s youngest state, KC Rao scripted laudable success stories, steering the state on the path of development and innovation. Telangana is one of the top IT-exporting states and has a number of hydroelectric and solar power plants developing to generate additional power capacity in the state. The chief minister, while taking over the Telangana cabinet four years back, had hoped to turn the state from a power-deficit to a power surplus state.

In his longest-ever Independence Day speech, CM Rao this year reflected on TRS’ performance and his initiatives as the leader of the newly-formed state. He emphasised the wide spectrum of social welfare schemes undertaken by his cabinet that touched the lives of an estimated three crore people.

“Telangana is the only state in the country to implement over 40 types of welfare schemes at the expense of over Rs 40,000 crore per year,” Rao mentioned during his Independence Day address.

Some of the key initiatives of the Rao government would include enhancing the income limit to identify lower income groups and include more and more people in the state-led welfare scheme. Salaries were revised; pension schemes were revisited and given an overhaul to provide more benefits to senior citizens, widows, physically challenged, among others.

In one of his recent rallies, CM Rao promised a further increase in the pension of Rs 1,000 given to various sections to Rs 2,016.

KCR’s vision to make Telangana a role model for other states and turn it into one of the greatest economic engines of the country has been unwavering. His command on the state and native wisdom makes him a leader hard to defeat. His leadership skills have exhibited a fine balance between giving impetus to innovation and development at the same time alleviating those at the lower rungs of his land.

To overthrow Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership in the upcoming assembly polls, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party will have to address and materialise the many aspirations and desires of the people of Telangana.

BJP-led Central government has long been accused of not fulfilling Telangana's demands. State municipal administration minister KT Rao recently alleged that the state has been treated with scant respect. BJP has a mammoth task of appeasing the people of Telangana, winning their trust and assuring that it can, and it will work for its welfare.

Congress, almost convinced of its defeat as an independent electoral contender, has joined the Andhra CM in his 'grand alliance' -- a political arrangement that may look formidable but could crumble with tiniest of internal dissent.

Telangana Assembly elections 2018: Why it's difficult to overthrow K C Rao

At a time when candidates shower booze and cash on voters in order to swing them in their favour, an independent candidate in Telangana has adopted a unique approach to woo the voters.

The 45-year-old Akula Hanmandloo, who is contesting as an independent candidate for Korutla assembly seat in Telangana, is giving a copy of a resignation letter and a slipper to voters even as he pleads with folded hands and says, ''This is copy of my resignation letter and a slipper. If you elect me I will do any work ( public work ) you wish. In case I don't do it you can send this letter to Telangana Assembly Speaker and along with that you can hit me with this slipper.''

Akula Hanmandloo has real estate business and has some agricultural land in and around Korutla town in Karimnagar district of Telangana.

A father of three children, Hanmandloo says he, like many voters, is vexed with empty and false promises of political leaders who, he says, say a lot before elections.

''Election after election people continue to suffer because the leaders who promise everything before elections are not to be seen or heard till the next elections. I want to set an example. I want to bring in change if I am elected,'' says Hanmandloo while speaking to Zee Media.

For Hanmandloo, this is not his first tryst with elections. Fifteen years back he unsuccessfully contested as corporator in local municipal elections in Korutla. His present campaigning is attracting a lot of attention in Korutla assembly constituency which has little more than two lakh voters. ''We have seen vote for note ( money ). But this is different. He is giving us a slipper and a resignation letter. What we expect from any candidate is honesty and sincerity and zeal to do development,'' opines Eligeti Krishna, a voter and resident of Korutla town.

Along with door to door campaign, Hanmandloo is also using social media to spread the message. He has a dedicated Facebook page wherein one can connect with him on this issue.

Hanmandloo is pitted against Congress' Narsing Rao and Telangana Rashtra Samithi's Vidyasagar Rao -- both heavyweights in the area.

''I dream of Rama Rajya wherein people are happy and prosperous and if I win I will live up to my promise,'' assures Hanmandloo.

The Assembly Elections for 119 seats for Telangana will be held on December 7.

Meet the Telangana candidate who seeks votes with slipper and resignation letter

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has said that if the Congress comes to power, the state will go blind.

Talking about providing electricity to Siddipet district, Mr Rao claimed during an election rally that "Telangana ranked number one in all the sectors. In the next two years, the train will come to Siddipet. TRS has also set up a Medical College in Siddipet district. It has announced that 24-hour electricity would be given free of cost to farmers. But if the Congress comes in power, the state will become blind."

He further said that food processing units will be set up in each constituency and their responsibilities will be handed over to women unions.

"Passbook for farmers will be given to them directly by the officers at their homes. From next year Rs. 10,000 will be given to the farmers for one acre of land. Crops cultivated by farmers will be bought through women's unions in villages. Food processing units will be set up in each constituency and their responsibilities will be handed over to women unions. We are working without corruption," Mr Rao said.

He also announced that his government will soon come up with a new scheme for farmers. "The actual problem for farmers is the cost of the crop. A wonderful scheme has been created for it and will be implemented in the coming days," Mr Rao said.

The Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on December 7 to elect members from 119 constituencies. The counting of votes will take place on December 11.

The Telangana State Assembly was dissolved prematurely in September on the recommendation of the ruling KCR-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government.

TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu will not share the stage with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her November 23 election rally in Telangana, state AICC in-charge R C Khuntia said Wednesday.

This ends speculation over whether the Andhra Pradesh chief minister would join Gandhi at her public meeting in Medchal after the two parties, along with others, forged an alliance for the upcoming Telangana Assembly polls.

Last month, the Congress forged the alliance, 'Prajakutami' (People's Alliance), with the TDP, the Telangana Jana Samithi and the Communist Party of India to take on the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in the December 7 elections.

But Naidu would campaign with Congress president Rahul Gandhi at some places during the latter's visit to the state on November 28 and 29 and December 3, Khuntia told PTI.

"Not all but (at) some meetings (Naidu and Rahul Gandhi will share stage)," he said.

Khuntia said the Congress is planning to release its election manifesto on November 23.

In a letter to the TRS president and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Reddy, who was elected from the Chevella constituency, said he was disappointed with the party at various levels.

He was forced into a position of contemplating leaving the party despite the fact that today TRS enjoys significant goodwill in the "social circles that we are in," Reddy said in the letter, shared with the media.

"I thought long and hard about this step before deciding to take this major decision and analysed the scenario by listing my disappointments at various levels," he said.

Reddy listed disappointments at five levels -- personal, injustice to karyakarthas (those) who worked for Telangana statehood, constituency, state and party -- in the letter.

"I fought for the party in 2014 when the party needed me. However, the party has induced people who were against Telangana and our ideology into the cabinet and given them more power and prominence.

I feel people who were fighting for Telangana and share a common ideology including me are no longer needed in the party," Reddy said.

He said he feels that the best possible path for him is to resign from the party as he is unable to acquiesce with the current scenario.

Reddy said he would also resign from the Lok Sabha. Reddy is a first time MP.

Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), a partner in the "grand alliance" for the December 7 Assembly elections in Telangana, on Monday expressed confidence and said the confusion over seat adjustments among the allies will be resolved soon.

The "grand alliance" comprises the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and TJS.

The confusion arose after parties gave tickets to candidates in constituencies allotted to their alliance partners.

"About seats, it will happen. If not today, it will happen tomorrow. I don't think it is a major problem. I am confident that we will be able to resolve that by tomorrow," TJS president M Kodandaram said in a 'Meet the Press' organised by Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ).

Monday being the last day for filing nomination, he was asked about the confusion with regard to seat adjustment among the alliance partners. There is also lack of clarity about the proposed common agenda.

Observing that firming up the alliance and reaching out to people with a common agenda has been delayed, which has hurt the coalition, he said the remaining 15 days leading up to the polling date (December seven) should be used for the purpose.

The common agenda has been prepared, he said.

When it was pointed out that any "friendly contests" among the alliance partners might hurt winning chances of their candidates, he said efforts to avoid such contests would continue.

"We have to avoid them (friendly contests). One or two may be unavoidable but they should go. Those efforts will continue," he said.

Replying to a query, Kodandaram said he is not working for becoming deputy chief minister (in the event of the alliance coming to power) or any other post.

Hitting out at the "autocratic" rule of TRS, he said the TJS and its alliance parties are seeking a "democratic rule" in Telangana.

Senior Congress leader M Sasidhar Reddy, son of former Chief Minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh M Chenna Reddy, Saturday expressed disappointment over not being given a ticket for the December 7 Telangana assembly polls, saying the reason given was that he would lose.

Reddy, a former Vice Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), traditionally contests from Sanatnagar in Hyderabad, but the seat has been alloted to TDP as part of seat-sharing among partners of the "grand alliance" for the polls.

An angry Reddy hit out at Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy for denying him the seat.

"It's not the question of an individual seat that was denied to me. The reasons given for that is something which is very upsetting, as propagated by Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy," he told PTI.

"It was very forcefully argued by him that I will lose. That is the reason why he wants to leave it to TDP. The basis for that is supposed to be his survey," he said.

However, an online poll by a TV channel gave him 68 per cent winning chances against his TRS rival, he said.

The denial of ticket to him sends out a wrong message to the rank and file that loyalty and contributions have no value and "all that matters is the personal agendas of these leaders", Reddy said.

He also alleged that the PCC leadership had misled the high command.

"I don't blame the Congress high command. Because of the constraint of time, elections in various states and the rallies and all that the Congress president is attending. Four-five states are going for polls," he said.

Reddy said he got a call from senior party leaders in Delhi and that he was on the way to airport to leave for the national capital.

Meanwhile, several other aspirants who failed to get tickets voiced their protest and some of them said they would form a front to contest the elections.

Congress sources said that a committee of party leaders would speak to those who were denied tickets.

Telangana Jana Samiti announces 4 candidates for December 7 assembly elections

The Congress Saturday released its third list of 13 candidates, including former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, for the December 7 Legislative Assembly polls in Telangana.

Lakshmaiah, who also served as a minister in the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh till 2014, had failed to find berth in the previous lists.

Lakshmaiah would contest from his Jangaon assembly segment. It was speculated that the Jangaon seat would go to Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), a partner in the "grand alliance" for the elections.

The alliance comprises Congress, TDP, CPI and TJS.

As part of the alliance, Congress would contest in 94 assembly segments (out of total 119). With the release of the third list, the party has so far declared candidates for 88 seats.

Meanwhile, TDP has declared Kuna Venkatesh Goud as its nominee from Sanathnagar in Hyderabad. The announcement is bad news for Congress leader Marri Sasidhar Reddy who represented the constituency earlier.

Congress releases third list for Telangana Assembly polls

Differences on how to "treat" the Congress in electoral politics has once again kept the two Left parties -- the CPI(M) and CPI -- apart in the December 7 Assembly polls in Telangana.

The CPI is sailing with the Congress-led alliance, which also comprises the Telugu Desam Party, headed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS).

The CPI(M) is leading the Bahujan Left Front (BLF), comprising 28 social groups and political parties.

The CPI(M) Telangana unit Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram told PTI Wednesday that the BLF is mulling to field its candidates in all the 119 assembly segments. It has already announced 70 nominees.

Veerabhadram, a former Lok Sabha member, termed CPI's move to have an electoral pact with the Congress as "wrong".

"We (CPI-M) have allied with the Congress and TDP for 30 years. Our experience was very bad. Our national party has already decided not to ally with the Congress at any cost", he said.

Veerabhadram said CPI-M's main target was to defeat the BJP, for which it wanted to mobilise "all secular votes. But in the name of that, we don't want to align with the Congress electorally".

According to him, since the formation of Telangana in 2014, these issues were discussed in the Left Coordination committee.

But "CPI's argument is that the TRS (the ruling party in Telangana) is very dangerous, and to defeat TRS, they are aligning with the Congress. We (CPI-M and CPI) differed".

He said the two parties basically differed on how to "treat" the Congress in electoral politics.

CPI National General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy said the CPI(M) formed a front which his party did not agree to.

"Together with other parties, we (CPI) wanted to defeat BJP and TRS. But the Left alone cannot defeat. We feel that's the number one task in the present situation in the politics of the state (to defeat the BJP and TRS)", Reddy told PTI.

"They (CPI-M) are not ready to agree. So we separated from them", he said.

On the CPI(M) request to the CPI to review its decision to align with the Congress, Reddy said there no question of going back now.

In the 2014 Telangana elections, the Congress had an alliance with the CPI, while the CPI-M contested separately, fielding 39 candidates and supporting the TRS in the remaining constituencies.

Veerabhadram accused the TRS regime of being "autocratic" and said its tenure was marked by "failure" to honour its electoral promises, while "people's aspirations were brutally suppressed".

"TRS has to go. But in the name of that, welcoming the Congress is not good for Telangana", he said, pitching for "alternative policies and alternative developmental model".

Congress' 'treatment' keeps CPM, CPI apart in Telangana polls

Softening stance on its share of seats in the "grand alliance" for the December 7 assembly elections in Telangana, the CPI Tuesday said that it would announce candidates for three assembly segments.

CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy told reporters here that the names of candidates from Husnabad, Wyra and Bellampalli would be announced Wednesday.

The "grand alliance" comprises the Congress, TDP, CPI and Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS).

Expressing dissatisfaction over Congress "unilaterally" announcing that CPI would get three seats, the Left party had earlier said it would field candidates from five assembly segments. The party had also named the five seats.

Chada Venkat Reddy Tuesday said his party is seeking a constituency in Nalgonda district, in addition to the three.

A CPI statement later alleged that Congress has delayed seat sharing with protracted consultations.

The delay would only hurt the "grand alliance", it said.

It wanted the Congress to complete seat sharing soon.

The statement said Chada Venkat Reddy would contest the elections and that Palla Venkat Reddy would function as in charge secretary.

Chada Venkat Reddy is most likely to contest from Husnabad.

The Congress Sunday said the party led 'grand alliance' in Telangana would emerge victorious in the December 7 assembly polls by winning 80 seats and form the next government.

Addressing a press conference here, Rajiv Shukla, the Congress party's national spokesperson, attacked caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao over going back on his promise to make a Scheduled Caste leader as Chief Minister after formation of a separate Telangana state.

Rao had also not fulfilled his promise to provide one lakh overnment jobs, two BHK houses, farmers' issues, education and the health sector, among others, he said.

"There are some fake surveys (on TRS victory)...Our survey says the Congress led alliance will get 80 seats. Definitely Congress will form the government in Telangana," he said.

Shukla said people have realised that the chief minister has made false promises and now wanted a change.

The Congress leader alleged that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and KCR (as Rao is popularly known as) were masters in cheating people by making false promises.

"Their big promises are visible only on hoardings, in newspapers and television channels.

There is a nexus and understanding between Modi and KCR and their thinking is same and they have a similar mindset, Shukla charged.

The Congress, TDP, Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) and CPI announced the formation of a pre poll grand alliance and discussions on seat sharing are on between them, but are yet to be finalised.

"Ticket finalisation and release of manifesto will be done very soon," Shukla said to a query.

Shukla claimed that when he was Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs (in the UPA government), KCR had told him that he would merge TRS with Congress and make a Dalit the Chief Minister.

But after Telangana came into being, he did not fulfill both the promises.

The credit for creating a separate Telangana state goes to Sonia Gandhi, (former Prime Minister) Manmohan Singh and the Congress government, he said.

Shukla also slammed KCR, stating that he and his party TRS had supported BJP on the elections to the post of President, Vice-President and even NDA's demonetisation and GST move. PTI VVKAPR

'Grand alliance' will win December 7 Telangana assembly polls: Congress

The YSR Congress Saturday decided not to contest the December 7 assembly elections in Telangana since its 'complete focus' is on the 2019 elections in Andhra Pradesh, its actual base.

The party, however, said it would take steps to strengthen the organisation across Telangana with the elections in 2024 as the target.

The YSRC won three assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 elections, but its elected legislators subsequently switched sides to the ruling TRS.

A statement from the YSRC Central Committee late Saturday night said the decision not to contest the polls was taken since 'our complete focus' was on the 2019 general elections in Andhra Pradesh.

"Taking into account the happenings (in Telangana) in the last four and a half years, we have decided not to contest the elections in that state," the statement added.

The YSRC is fighting a do-or-die political battle in Andhra Pradesh and the 2019 elections are critical for its future.

Meanwhile, the Jana Sena Party said it would take a call on fighting the Telangana elections in a few days.

"There is some uncertainty in the party because of the mid-term elections in Telangana.

Had the elections been conducted as per schedule (in 2019), we wanted to contest 23 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats," Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan said in Vijayawada.

Some candidates were eager to jump into the fray as independents and sought Jana Senas support, he said.

Telangana polls: 'Grand alliance' partners hold talks; CPI demands more seats

Anti-BJP parties would meet in New Delhi on November 22 to create a common platform and chalk out their future course of action, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Saturday.

Addressing a press meet after a meeting with Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot who came here as an emissary of Rahul Gandhi at his riverfront residence here, the Telugu Desam President said the endeavour was to bring everybody on board to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Naidu said he would meet West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on November 19 or 20.

"This is broadly anti-BJP platform. This is in the interest of the nation. Save democracy, save the nation and save the institutions..That is the agenda. That is the national agenda, an utmost important agenda," Naidu said.

The TDP chief had recently met former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, his Karnataka counterpart H D Kumaraswamy and DMK president M K Stalin as part of his efforts to forge a front against the BJP.

"Now I have convinced everybody. Everybody is willing to cooperate with us. In this experiment, Congress is the main opposition party. They have more responsibility. We have to acknowledge that," Naidu said.

The New Delhi meeting would decide on "how to move forward" and also "build an organisational structure" for the anti-BJP platform, he added.

Naidu said he had already met several leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah and others, and would meet Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Replying to questions, he said there were only "two platforms" in the country BJP and anti-BJP.

"Political parties should decide which side they are. If they don't join us, it means they are with BJP," he said.

"The Tamil Nadu government is controlled by remote control (from New Delhi). Telangana Rashtra Samitis (TRS) agenda is BJP agenda. Some parties are there. They are aligned with the BJP," Naidu said.

The TDP chief said some parties might join them after the elections to Assemblies in five states and "one or two" might come after the Lok Sabha elections.
"Our effort is to bring everybody on board to fight the BJP," he said.

To a question, he said sharing of seats (in elections) and other things would come after some time.

Gehlot said there was an "undeclared Emergency-type atmosphere in the country.

Institutions are getting destroyed in the country. Constitution (of India) is getting weakened. People are worried. Not one section of the society is happy with the Modi administration in the last four and a half years," the former Rajasthan chief minister said.

While anti-BJP parties have their foundations in secularism and democracy, the BJP and RSS people have only the "mask of democracy" on their faces, he said.

"They dont have any faith in democracy. They are fascist...," Gehlot alleged.

This was the "proper time" for (anti-BJP) parties to come on to a single platform and forge a grand alliance, the AICC general secretary added.

Congress to contest 95 seats in Telangana, leaves 24 to allies

Dubbing TRS as a 'family outfit,' BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav on Wednesday said the K Chandrasekhar led-party was apprehensive of losing the assembly elections, had it been held along with the general elections in 2019.

Addressing BJP booth level workers at Armoor in Nizamabad district, he said people had given a five year mandate to the Chief Minister. But he 'gave up' in just four years.

"Now what is the guarantee that you (KCR) will not run away (if you come to power) after four years?" he asked.

"Why are we going for elections in four years? Because KCR is apprehensive that he will not win if the assembly elections are held along with Lok Sabha elections in 2019," he said.

Madhav alleged that the double bedroom housing scheme announced by the TRS government had become an unfulfilled promise.

He said the Modi government had taken the initiative of providing a house to every poor family in the country by 2022.

"The BJP government had promised five crore houses to the poor by 2022. This year we sanctioned one crore houses," he said.

Madhav said that on the health care front, the BJP government had launched the Ayushman Bharat scheme to provide quality and specialised health care facilities worth up to Rs five lakh to the poor.

On the one hand, Prime Minister Modi was trying to take the country forward, while on the other Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to take the state backwards, he said.

"Telangana has achieved a record in corruption during the past four years. It occupies second position among the corrupt states in the country," he alleged

"Modi does not have a family, so there is no question of family rule.

But in Telangana, it is not only family rule, it is Beta (son), beti (daughter) and mai (me)," he charged.

Ram Madhav said TRS could get only a narrow margin of 63 seats (of 119 seats) during the 2014 elections despite bragging about achieving statehood.

But KCR lured members of other paties into TRS, he alleged.

Hitting out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Ram Madhav alleged that both he and his Telangana counterpart provide corrupt governance.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Ramdayal Uike, the working president of the Chhattisgarh Congress who joined the saffron party recently, from Pali-Tanakhar seat, and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary, who quit the service to join the party, from Kharsia, a Congress stronghold.

Among the candidates announced so far, 14 are women, 25 are less than 40 years of age, 10 candidates belong to the Scheduled Castes and 29 STs.

The first phase of polling covers 18 seats spread across eight Naxal-affected districts of Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Kanker, Narayanpur and Rajnandgaon. Out of these 18 seats, the BJP Saturday named candidates for 17 assembly segments.
