At a press conference, Muttaqi said the Turkmenistan delegation and Islamic Emirate held talks on political and economic issues. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The delegation from Turkmenistan included officials of various ministries, who held talks with Islamic Emirate’s officials. &nbsp;&nbsp;

During the two-day visit, both sides discussed several issues to strengthen political relations and economic ties. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Muttaqi said they talked about the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, whose implementation in Afghanistan will start soon.

“Important issues, such as TAPI, electricity and railroads, were discussed. We discussed how to strengthen the projects, which had already started. Also, the projects that were started by Turkmenistan, such as TAPI, its practical implementation will start soon in Afghanistan,” Muttaqi. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The minister also said Meredov invited him to visit Turkmenistan. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Meredov and his delegation also met with PM Deputy Abdul Salam Hanafi and discussed economic issues, especially the TAPI project and railroads and made important decisions, the Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

TAPI pipeline project in Afghanistan to resume soon, says Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi

Chairman of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Pipeline Corporation Murad Amanov on Wednesday met Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and apprised him about the progress in the Trans-Afghanistan project.

Qureshi assured the delegation about the government`s commitment to ensure early implementation of the TAPI Gas project and promote cooperation in the energy sector with Turkmenistan.

Energy is important for advancing the domestic economy, therefore, the government is paying special attention to the energy sector for economic development, he said.

Meanwhile, Amanov told the foreign minister that talks between Pakistan and TAPI Company are underway successfully for the finalization of this agreement by the host government. Qureshi said that ensuring the safety of oil and gas supply is our top priority.

The TAPI gas pipeline project is expected to be completed by 2022 in Pakistan.&nbsp;

The TAPI project, supported by the United States and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has been supported by Turkmenistan since the 1990s. But the initiation of the project was delayed due to issues related to the instability in the region, especially in Afghanistan.

The ADB is acting as the facilitator and coordinator for the project. It is proposed to lay a 56-inch diameter and 1,680-kilometre pipeline with a capacity of transporting 33 billion cubic meters (BCM) of natural gas per annum from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Fazilka near the India-Pakistan border, Geo News reported.

The pipeline will run through areas of southern Afghanistan largely controlled by the Taliban.&nbsp;

TAPI Chairman meets Pakistan Foreign Minister, apprises him of project progress

Iran said today that it is ready to <a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/now-india-pak-afghan-officials-bond-over-tapi-gas-pipeline-33808">swap the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India)</a> pipeline from&nbspTurkmenistan to India but it is unlikely to become operational, Iran's FARS news agency reported.

The 1,840-kilometre gas pipeline is set to run from &nbspTurkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. India's participation in the pipeline has been in doubt for several years over its relations with Pakistan with Indian authorities fearing terrorists may disrupt the gas line.

"I see it unlikely for the TAPI pipeline to become operational and Iran is ready for this swap to Pakistan," head of National Iranian Gas Company, Hamidreza Araqi, said.

The pipeline is set to pump gas from Turkmenistan's Galkynysh gas field in 2020.

"We have announced our readiness to Turkmenistan for exporting their natural gas to Pakistan, but have not received any response from them," Araqi added.

Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, MJ Akbar had said earlier that the TAPI project was "a dove in a storm" underscoring the importance it held for India.

"Given Iran's situation in the centre of the region, we can join every gas pipeline that passes around the country," Araqi told FARS.

The pipeline showcases the complex geopolitical matrix in the region with strained relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan also between India and Pakistan.

The pipeline will have a capacity to carry 33 billion cubic meters gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan.
