<p>Filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat's <em>Kill</em> is not for the faint hearted. It's bloody and gory, yet it never misses a beat and compels the audience to sit through its nearly 2&nbsp;hours runtime. Set over a journey in an overnight train headed to Delhi, the film has debutant actor Lakshya playing NSG commando, Captain Amrit Rathod who is on board to meet his bride-to-be Tulika, who is travelling with her family. Things turn awry when a bunch of dacoits hijack the train with their leader Fani (Raghav Juyal) calling the shots. As few passengers are killed in the scuffle, Amrit and his friend, fellow commando Viresh (Abhishek Chauhan) take the situation into their own hands to protect the passengers in the train which includes Tulika and her family.&nbsp;<br />

Things take a dark, gory turn after Amrit witnesses a brutal death during the fight and from there it's just mayhem on the long journey.&nbsp;<br />

In the beginning, you feel Fani is the ruthless one- not as moralistic as his father (Ashish Vidyarthi) and definitely a little maverick in the ways he operates. But Bhat, who also serves as the writer of the film, flips the narrative in the second half and unleashes the animalistic nature of Amrit who goes on a killing spree.</p>

With limited dialogues, the actors rely on physical action and they do not disappoint. Lakshya, in his brooding avatar, appears tailor-made for his role as the deadly, fearless Captain Amrit. Juyal, who has been a popular TV host, and reality TV star, uses his comic timing to make Fani a very interesting villain. He has the best lines which he delivers at some of the crucial moments of the film. Those who have loved Juyal during his TV stint would find the actor's casting surprising- playing the cold, calculative man who doesn't wince or blink an eye when he kills. And Juyal delivers. And while Lakshya, with his biceps and triceps, flexes muscle and kills, Juyal plays the sarcastic villain to the hilt, who is easy on the eyes and yet the most dangerous. Tanya Maniktala has limited role in the film but her character is the catalyst to the plot. Wish there were more scenes of the beautiful and talented actress in the film though.&nbsp;</p>

It is also interesting to see how a film that is being pitched as a violent film, isn't just about blood and gore. There are moments when the dacoits want an escape from the mayhem that has unfolded on the train. As they see members of their family being brutally killed, they plead to the leader to abort the plan and deboard the train. They are also dacoits for a reason and Bhat very subtly highlights the state of the impoverished, the class divide and what leads the pack of dacoits to loot and plunder.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Considering the film is set on a moving train, it has limited space and hence it is crucial to keep the pace going. Cinematographer Rafey Mehmood's intrusive camera work and Shivkumar V. Panicker's skillful editing make the film very immersive. There are moments where you may wince due to the extreme gore that is playing out on screen, but nothing looks just for the sake of it. The film also highlights the importance of the foley artists and their work very effectively. A lot of the film relies on sound - just to create the impact it desires and the Foley work is stupendous. Every kick, punch, smashing of heads is felt. The film also boasts of great background score which enhances the fast-paced narrative.&nbsp;</p>

I must admit that I am not a fan of action films and I usually avoid this genre. Yet, I found myself glued to the screen while watching <em>Kill. </em>I knew how the story would pan out, yet the screenplay was so effective that I was hooked right from the beginning. It comes months after the release of <em>Animal</em> which too was a very violent film. But compared to <em>Animal,</em> which lost its plot post-interval, <em>Kill </em>picks up pace in the second half and twists the narrative - blurring the line between hero and anti-hero.&nbsp;</p>

Kill movie review: Lakshya, Raghav Juyal's bloody train ride never slips from track

<p>The teaser of new film <em>Kill</em> is not for the faint heart. Pitched as the film that will redefine the action genre in Indian cinema, <em>Kill </em>is replete with a gory action sequence. The teaser gives a glimpse of what's in store for the viewers in July when the film hits theatres. Co-produced by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, <em>Kill </em>marks the debut of actor Lakshya and also features Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala.&nbsp;<br />

The teaser opens on a happy note featuring a couple played by Lakshya and Tanya as they embark on a train ride. The two are shown to exchange texts with each other in their journey. The scene quickly changes as goons with knives rampage a compartment in the train that Tanya is travelling in.<br />

Lakshya enters the scene and unleashes a sea of blood as he takes on the goons single-handedly. Lakshya doesn't stop at one and kills one after another in the deadliest manner one can imagine.&nbsp;<br />

<em>Kill </em>was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023. The screening of the film, was attended by producers Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, Lakshya, CEO of Dharma Productions Apoorva Mehta, director Nagesh Bhat and actor Raghav Juyal. &nbsp;<br />

Lakshya, a Dharma talent, was earlier set to make his debut in <em>Bedhadak</em> which was set to be the launchpad of Sanjay Kapoor's daughter Shanaya Kapoor. However, the film was shelved. Lakshya will be now making his debut in <em>Kill</em>, which has already earned rave reviews in the international film festival circuit.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Mira Nair is all set to adapt Vikram Seth classic ‘A Suitable Boy’ for a special six part TV show. And she has already zeroed in on the lead cast. Nair’s film will star Tabu, Ishaan Khatter and newcomer Taniya Maniktala- who will play the central character of Lata in the film.<br />

Ishaan, who &nbsp;who made a splash in the films ‘Beyond The Clouds’ and ‘Dhadak’ last year, took to Instagram to announce his new project which will be aired on BBC one. “Elated to announce that I’ll be playing Maan Kapoor in @pagliji ’s and @bbcone ‘s official adaptation of Vikram Seth’s ‘A Suitable Boy’. <p>Adapted by Andrew Davies and directed by Mira and produced by Lookout Point, ‘A Suitable Boy’ will shortly begin filming in India. It is going to be a six-part BBC One drama.<br />

‘A Suitable Boy’ tells the story of spirited university student Lata in 1951 at the same time as the country is carving out its own identity as an independent nation and is about to go to the polls for its first democratic general election.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is a tale charting the fortunes of four large families and exploring India and its rich and varied culture at a crucial point in its history.</p>

<p>"Vikram tells the story of a free India and our people with wit, clarity and love -- I am deeply honoured to be the one bringing this intimate, epic tale of an unseen India to the world," Mira said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Today, `A Suitable Boy` is timelier than ever. With a mix of legendary and cutting-edge actors from the subcontinent, shooting entirely on location in palaces, villages and streets across northern India, we will keep the history and dream of an alternate India alive."</p>

<p>Ishaan will be seen as Maan who is determined to enjoy life to the full whatever the consequences, much to the concern of his politician father. He is infatuated with courtesan Saaeda Bai (Tabu).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The six-part series, which will be distributed by BBC Studios, is filming at a number of locations across India including Lucknow and Maheshwar.</p>
