There have been difficulties, and the resettlement process has taken longer than anticipated, an official said in a statement to Reuters.

The official stated, "The UAE remains committed to this ongoing cooperation with the US and other international partners to ensure that Afghan evacuees can live in safety, security, and dignity," Reuters reported. However, a representative for the US said that it is also cooperating in its efforts to help Afghans find resettlement options.

Under the condition of anonymity, one of the Afghans said, "Nearly one year, we have been here in detention, and the camp is like a modern prison. No one is allowed to go out, they don't know when (we) will be settled permanently to any country," Reuters reported.

The protests broke out in February after the process stopped. Afterward, a senior official from the US State Dept. visited and promised all Afghans to be resettled by August. Nearly, 12,000 Afghans were reportedly housed at the Abu Dhabi facility. The US last year welcomed nearly 85,000 Afghans into the country.

The US further stated that no one would be forced to return to Afghanistan, despite the fact that several UAE citizens made voluntary returns after waiting for months.

The US Air Force has decided not to take any disciplinary action against the C-17 aircraft crew that flew out of Kabul airport in Afghanistan during the abrupt and chaotic evacuation of American forces even though human body parts were discovered in the wheel’s well when the plane landed in Qatar.

The inquiry concluded that the crew “acted appropriately” in departing the Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan, in August 2021.

In a statement released on Monday, they said that the crew used sound judgment "in their decision to get airborne as quickly as possible when faced with an unprecedented and rapidly deteriorating security situation."

"The aircrew's airmanship and quick thinking ensured the safety of the crew and their aircraft. After seeking appropriate care and services to help cope with any trauma from this unprecedented experience, the crew returned to flight status," the US Air Force also said Monday.

On August 16, a day after the Taliban took over Afghanistan and ousted the civilian government, hundreds of people reached the airport to take the US aircraft in a bid to leave the country fearing retribution from the Taliban and the return of fundamental Islamist laws.

The royals further shared, "When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not. And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we, as a people, are being conditioned to accept it.
