<p>Hussain had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in San Francisco due to heart-related complications. "Official confirmation from family, hospital or the consulate in San Fransisco (where there are reports he is undergoing health checkups) is still awaited," ANI posted on X.</p>

<p>“He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem for the last two weeks,” said Nirmala Bachani, Hussain's manager.</p>

<p>Hussain, widely credited with bringing the tabla to the global stage, leaves behind a lasting legacy in the world of music.</p>

<p>Zakir Hussain, the son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha, began learning the tabla at the age of seven and was performing across India by the time he was 12. Over the years, he made significant contributions to Indian classical music and brought the Tabla to a global platform.</p>

<p>He also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, India’s highest recognition in the field of music.</p>

<p>Tributes have been pouring&nbsp;in for Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, who&nbsp;passed&nbsp;away at 73 due to complications arising out of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.</p>

<p>"His prolific work as a teacher, mentor and educator has left an indelible mark on countless musicians. He hoped to inspire the next generation to go further. He leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a cultural ambassador and one of the greatest musicians of all time," said his family in a statement confirming his death.</p>

<p>The saddening news came&nbsp;hours after the news of his hospitalisation came. On Sunday (Dec 15), several reports claimed that&nbsp;he had passed away. However, the reports were refuted&nbsp;by some of his family members,&nbsp;who confirmed that he was alive but his condition was ‘critical’. His family confirmed the death hours later.</p>
