H1N1 influenza, commonly known as swine flu, is seeing a sharp rise in Delhi, with around 1,300 cases reportedly recorded in the national capital. The figure is nearly six times higher than the 229 cases reported during the same period last year.

The rise comes amid changing weather conditions during the monsoon season. Doctors say common symptoms can include fever, sore throat, nasal discharge, dry cough and headache, while most infections are generally mild.

However, health experts caution that certain groups, including elderly people, children and those with underlying conditions, can face a higher risk of complications.

Authorities have issued public health advice, including covering the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, maintaining hand hygiene, avoiding crowded places when symptomatic and seeking medical attention if serious symptoms develop.

H1N1 influenza cases are rising sharply in Delhi, with more than 1,300 cases reportedly recorded in the national capital, nearly six times the number reported during the same period last year.

Doctors say most H1N1 infections are generally mild, with fever often subsiding within three to five days. However, elderly people, children and those with conditions such as diabetes and heart disease may face a higher risk of complications.

Common symptoms include sore throat, nasal discharge, dry cough, headache and fever. Health authorities have advised affected individuals to isolate at home, wear masks and follow basic hygiene precautions.

The government has also issued a public advisory urging people to cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, wash their hands regularly, avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth, and stay away from crowded places when symptomatic.

People have also been advised not to take medicines without consulting a doctor and to seek medical attention if symptoms worsen, particularly in cases of high fever, breathing difficulties, bluish skin or lips, or blood in the sputum.

The issue came to the fore after Justice D Y Chandrachud told lawyers in his court room that judges of the apex court held a meeting with the CJI to take remedial steps to check the spread of swine flu.

Justice Chandrachud said it was decided in the meeting to make H1N1 vaccination available for advocates for inoculation. The CJI also held a meeting with office bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to discuss the issue.

Due to the meeting, the bench led by CJI Bobde sat late, at around 11.08 am, as against the scheduled time of 10.30am.

The Supreme Court administration spoke to the concerned officials of the Health Ministry for taking immediate measures. Apex court sources said that the CJI asked the secretary general to speak to the ministry for augmenting the CGHS facility and setting up of temporary dispensary to attend to lawyers requiring medical facilities for H1N1.

Sources said that measures have already been taken for augmenting CGHS facilities and setting up of the dispensary.

"The CJI and judges were very concerned for taking affective measures. They want immunization and sensitisation procedure to be carried out in the apex court," sources said.

SCBA secretary Ashok Arora said,"the CJI had called the meeting in the morning and discussed with us the seriousness of H1N1".

He said on Wednesday, there will be a awareness meet about the spread of H1N1 in the apex court and vaccination drive will commence from Thursday. Further, Arora said the health ministry officials are going to visit the Supreme Court on Wednesday to take effective measures including augmenting the CGHS dispensary in the campus.

Three people have died due to swine flu in Mumbai, with the death toll surging to 10 in 2017, Indian authorities said.

The deaths come amid 92 people contracting the potentially-deathly virus in Mumbai between June 16 and June 22 alone, ANI reported.

So far, 285 people have contracted swine flu in India&#39;s financial capital this year.
