Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the government over the July 20 student protests, alleging excessive use of force against demonstrators. Addressing a press conference, Gandhi claimed students were beaten, targeted with pellet guns, and intimidated through surveillance measures.

Rahul Gandhi questioned the role of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that forces involved in the action report to the Home Ministry. He demanded that Shah take responsibility and called for his resignation along with an independent probe monitored by a Supreme Court-appointed committee.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on Sunday announced his government's plans to establish a "comprehensive and enforceable'' code of conduct for student unions to be restored throughout the South Asian country.

Khan asserted the role played by student unions in grooming the youth as potential leaders of the country.&nbsp;

"Universities groom future leaders of the country &amp; student unions form an integral part of this grooming. Unfortunately, in Pakistan universities' student unions became violent battlegrounds &amp; completely destroyed the intellectual atmosphere on campuses," he tweeted.

According to The Dawn, Khan's reaction came after people participated in a protest called the ''Student Solidarity March'', led by the Student Action Committee (SAC) on November 29.

"We will establish a comprehensive &amp; enforceable code of conduct, learning from the best practices in internationally renowned universities, so that we can restore &amp; enable student unions to play their part in positively grooming our youth as future leaders of the country," Khan added.

Students, supporters and activists across the country are demanding the restoration of student unions, demilitarisation of campuses, nationalisation of educational institutions and withdrawal of the recent fee hike from several universities, amongst other demands. 
 
The protesters are also pressing the government to reserve five per cent of the national GDP for education.

The demonstration is scheduled in the front of the Police Headquarter on Jaisingh Road near the Parliament. 
 
"The JNU Visually Challenged Students' Forum calls for a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/jnu-administration-to-take-stringent-action-against-students-over-criminal-vandalism-262743">demonstration</a> against the brutal lathi charge of Delhi Police and demand for justice for persons with disabilities," Shaikh Mohammad Kaish, JNU Visually Challenged Students' Forum, said in a statement. 
 
On November 18, Delhi Police had denied allegations of lathi-charge levelled by some students during the protest organised to demand complete fee rollback. 
 
However, the Forum said that the lathi charge by police was a clear cut violation of the United Nation's Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2006 and Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2016 act. 
 
The forum demanded delegation-level talks with the Chief Commissioner of Delhi Police and full protection of persons with disabilities anywhere in the national capital with an immediate effect.
