<p>A Russian influencer, Maxim Lyutyi, who promotes a raw food diet on social media, has been jailed for starving his son by putting him on a “sunshine diet”. The 44-year-old is sentenced to eight years' imprisonment in a penal colony.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lyutyi wanted his baby boy, Kosmos, to be like Superman, instead, he died of “pneumonia and emaciation”, the court said.</p>

<p>The court sentenced him for intentionally putting the newborn on a strict diet that deprived him of all kinds of nutritional food and forced the child to go on for hours only “feeding on the sun”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lyutyi was found guilty by a court in Sochi for the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm on the child.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Influencer also stopped wife from breastfeeding the newborn</strong></h2>

<p>The court said the influencer also stopped his partner Oxsana Mironova from breastfeeding the child as per The Sun. Mironova had earlier said that she was just a “slave” to his extreme diet partner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>News outlet Mash said Lyutyi used to take the boy away from Mironova for a day at a time and douse him in cold water in order to "harden him." Despite the suffering, the child was not taken to doctors.</p>

<p>Mironova also alleged that due to her diet (as suggested by Lyutyi) she suffered from an iron deficiency which then caused problems for the child who weighed just three-and-a-half pounds at birth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lawyer Alexey Avanesyan told the court, "Several years before meeting Lyutyi, Mironova opted for the vegan lifestyle. Premature babies, children of mothers suffering from iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy are at risk."</p>

<p>In his last court appearance, Lyutyi pleaded guilty to the death of his child due to his “negligence”.</p>

<p>"If I knew that my son was born prematurely, that his mother had contraindications for pregnancy, then at the first symptoms of the child's illness I would immediately contact a hospital, regardless of the wishes and beliefs of the mother," he said according to The Sun.</p>

<p>Consulate General of India in Chicago on Saturday (August 5) extended medical and travel assistance to the Hyderabad woman who was discovered starving on the streets some days ago.</p>

<p>After the girl was spotted starving, her mother Syeda Wahaj Fatima wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, appealing to him to "immediately interfere" and bring her daughter back "as soon as possible."<br />

"This is to state that my daughter Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi went to pursue her Master's in Information Science from TRINE University, Detroit, USA in Aug 2021... She was in touch with us. For the last two months, she was not in touch with me and recently, through two Hyderabadi youths we came to know that my daughter is in deep depression and all her belongings had been stolen due to which she is on the verge of starvation and is being seen on the roads of Chicago," read the letter.<br />

"It is requested to kindly ask the Embassy of India, Washington DC, USA, and the Indian Consulate in Chicago, USA to immediately interfere and bring back my daughter as soon as possible to India. Necessary action taken in this regard may be informed," she stated.</p>

<h2><strong>Multiple appeals to minister to facilitate girl's return</strong></h2>

<p>A spokesperson of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), a Telangana-based party, said that an appeal was made to Minister Jaishankar to facilitate the girl's return to India. "After my tweet, I received a reply from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Consulate in Chicago that she is not in a condition to travel immediately,” the spokesperson said.<br />

"We are trying to send her parents to Chicago to take care of her. The parents do not have passports. We have appealed to IT Minister KTR (Telangana) to help them get passports and visas from the US Consulate in Hyderabad. Many individuals and organisations have come forward for their trip to the US," he added.</p>

<p>"There have been back-to-back droughts in&nbsp;Madagascar&nbsp;which have pushed communities right to the very edge of starvation. Families are suffering and people are already dying from severe hunger," he added. Beasley blamed climate change for the crisis.</p>

<p>WFP said $78.6 million was needed to fight the crisis.</p>
