However, on Friday Supreme Court refused to stay the release of the film while dismissing the plea. The court dismissed the plea saying that movies don't influence the court's judgment. The court was further reported saying it could not restrict the artistic freedom of filmmaker. The decision was taken by the bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. The member of the Adarsh colony has alleged that the movie may affect the trial of the case of Adarsh scam. Featuring, Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee and Naseeruddin Shah, Aiyaary was released on Friday and so far been receiving mixed reviews from the critics. Supreme Court refuses to stay release of Aiyaary

<p>Every director more or less sticks to the same genre after he or she delivers a hit based on it. We associate stories of love and self-discovery to Imtiaz Ali, we associate Rajkumar Hirani to films that deliver social messages and similarly we associate Neeraj Pandey to films that speak about the angst of the common man who always is at the receiving end because of a corrupt system. Barring <em>MS Dhoni</em>, of course.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Pandey&#39;s first,<em> A Wednesday</em>, spoke about how a common man can be pushed to his limits due to an ignorant system. His <em>Special 26</em> was a quirky heist film which highlighted that slacked police force, his <em>Baby</em> and <em>Naam Shabana </em>(which he wrote and produced) were about special agents who would put their life at stake for the sake of the country. <em>Aiyaary</em> can perhaps be called an extension of that same story. A film where everyone is brisk walking to some destination or the other yet making the whole process look like an ordeal.</p>

<p>With a half-baked plot&nbsp;that establishes itself well into the second half, <em>Aiyaary</em> is about a special agent gone rogue. Major Jai Bakshi (Sidharth Malhotra) is basically disillusioned with the system and decides to sell top secrets of the army to an arms dealer. Jai is not doing this for the money or because he wants to seek revenge from the army but because he is just tired of how the corrupt are ruling the nation. His&nbsp;mentor, &nbsp;Colonel Abhay Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) hurt and angry at being deceived by his brightest student, then takes it upon himself to hunt Jai down- who has fleed the country with his girlfriend, Sonya, a hacker by profession (Rakul Preet Singh). &nbsp;The film also briefly touches upon the infamous Adarsh Housing Society Scam-perhaps the most comprehensive subplot in the entire film and makes a mish-mash story of a bright officer hell-bent on exposing the corruption in the country thereby putting his mentor, team maters and Army chief&#39;s position at stake.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The film&#39;s narrative is non-linear. With multiple flashbacks- and flashbacks within flashbacks- the narrative appears too complicated to&nbsp;fully concentrate on. Pandey perhaps overestimates the viewer&#39;s intelligence and let them assume a lot of things for the longest time. The only thing that one knows in the first twenty odd minutes into the film is that the Army is looking for two of its missing officers. Pandey does not bother in putting a timeline in most scenes and often breaks into flashbacks making the entire film look haphazard. At the interval, there is suddenly a shot of Naseeruddin Shah sitting on a bed and laughing while watching television and you wonder if he is actually laughing at you for agreeing to sit through the ordeal for so long. Because Shah&#39;s inclusion in the film at that point is out of the blue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In fact, Shah&#39;s shot isn&#39;t the only illogical thing in the film. There are several more, in fact. There&#39;s a scene where Sidharth and Rakul&#39;s character meet for the first time, Rakul hacks into Sidharth&#39;s password protected laptop and buys herself things with his card details from a shopping portal. And the man just smiles at her and says &#39;Impressive&#39;. Only if it was that easy to impress suitors in real life!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Manoj Bajpayee tries hard to make the film and his character look real and convincing but an actor of his caliber deserves a properly written, coherent script which <em>Aiyaary</em> lacks. Malhotra is average in his role. Kumud Mishra, Adil Hussain, Anupam Kher are all wasted. Perhaps the brightest spark is Naseeruddin Shah, who gets the best scene in the film - but Shah comes in only the end and by then&nbsp;you may have gone into a deep slumber and you may miss the scene completely.</p>

<p><strong>Mukkabaaz:&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;Anurag Kashyap casts the underrated Vineet Singh in the titular role in his new film <em>Mukkabaaz.</em> Set in Uttar Pradesh, the story is of a lower caste boxer who dares to fall in love with an upper caste girl. Co-starring Jimmy Shergill and Ravi Kishan, the film will have Kashyap&#39;s signature style of drama and violence with a powerful storyline. Set to release on January 12th.</p>

<strong>Padman:</strong> Akshay Kumar turns a superhero of sorts as he becomes a crusader for women in R Balki&#39;s Padman. Based on a real-life incident, Akshay Kumar will be seen playing a do-gooder who propagates the importance of menstrual hygiene and creates low-cost sanitary napkins in the film. The film also features Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor and has been produced by Twinkle Khanna. Padman will be releasing on 26th January.</p>

The first three months are packed with some very interesting films

2017 saw the success of many middle-of-the-road films. From Hindi Medium to Newton, filmmakers gave audience stories that were thought provoking. The new year will see Bollywood churning out some highly anticipated films along with small budget films. The first three months are packed with some very interesting films. So, here's our list of 11 films to look forward to in the first quarter of 2018 Kaalakaandi: There is something about Saif Ali Khan that always appeals. The Nawab hasn't delivered a hit for a long time but continues to generate curiosity thanks to his unique choices in films. After playing the main protagonist in last year's Chef, Khan will be seen in a dark comedy called Kaalakaandi which has an ensemble cast. Directed by Akshat Verma, the film will release on January 12th. Mukkabaaz: Anurag Kashyap casts the underrated Vineet Singh in the titular role in his new film Mukkabaaz. Set in Uttar Pradesh, the story is of a lower caste boxer who dares to fall in love with an upper caste girl. <p>Varun Dhawan&#39;s upcoming film <em>October </em>recently released its first look and it has surely got all of us intrigued. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the movie is Varun&#39;s first venture with the filmmaker and also features model Banita Sandhu, who makes her Bollywood debut with the film. Touted to be a thriller-love story, <em>October</em> is written by Juhi Chaturvedi and is releasing this April. Sircar and Chaturvedi have earlier collaborated on films like <em>Vicky Donor</em> and<em> Piku </em>which were loved by the audience. It will be interesting to see what the writer-director duo have up their sleeves this time around.</p>

<p>After two successful sequels <em>Race </em>franchise is gearing up for the third film- this time with a new cast and a new director. <em>Race 3 </em>&nbsp;is being directed by Remo D&#39;Souza and produced under Tips Films &amp; Salman Khan films. Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah and Bobby Deol will play the leads in the film and only Anil Kapoor from the original cast has been retained in the third installment. The film will be Salman&#39;s Eid offering next year.</p>

Aiyaary, Pari, October: 8 thrillers that you simply cannot miss in 2018

<p>Whodunnit mysteries can be tricky to make. And if it is a remake of sorts of an already known film, it becomes even harder to generate curiosity around the film. First time director Abhay Chopra&#39;s <em>Ittefaq</em>, starring Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra and Akshaye Khanna keeps the basic structure of the original film intact; yet changes the film to make it suitable for the modern times. Does it work? Mostly, yes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having found his wife Catherine&#39;s dead body in the hotel room and subsequently being accused of murdering her, writer Vikram (Sidharth Malhotra) is on the run. The film opens with a car chase sequence across Mumbai roads. As his car turns turtle, Vikram manages to escape the police and lands up taking refuge at Maya&#39;s (Sonakshi Sinha) apartment. As police follow Vikram to Maya&#39;s apartment, they find him standing next to Maya&#39;s husband Shekhar&#39;s body and arrest him.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The story is then taken forward with two very different versions of the same murder. One where Vikram states he was wrongly framed by Maya in Shekhar&#39;s murder and then the other version by Maya - where she states Vikram forced entry into her apartment and while trying to save her, Shekhar got killed by Vikram. &nbsp;It is then up to Dev (Akshaye Khanna),&nbsp;the investigative officer of the case, to find out the truth and arrest the murderer.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The film&#39;s taut screenplay helps in keeping the viewers engaged throughout its runtime. The narrative keeps going back and forth, each time with a different version of the same story- one of Vikram&#39;s and the other of Maya&#39;s. The non-linear narrative helps to keep one guessing on who is speaking the truth.</p>

<p>Shot by Michal Luka, the frames play an integral part in keeping the mystery alive. Most of the scenes have overall hue of grey, indicating that none of the characters on screen are plain black or white. One barely gets to see the faces of the leads properly in most part of the film and their actual faces are only visible fully near the climax as slowly the mystery is unraveled.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Among the actors, Akshaye Khanna is in top form as the wry yet self-assured cop. Khanna&#39;s character gets to deliver some of the best lines in the film and his cool-as-cucumber act does not appear out of place. It is quite refreshing to see Khanna playing an author-backed role after ages, in fact. The lead pair, Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha also deliver commendable performances. Both fit their characters well and are pitch perfect in playing the mysterious characters. Their initial scenes are a tad rough but eventually, the act stabilizes and they both manage to intrigue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is devoid of songs which works immensely for the film- because we all know how unnecessary the songs are especially in a whodunnit.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Above all, what works for the film is that narrative never loses pace- not even in the dreaded second half. I found myself on the edge of my seat during most part of the second half, keenly following what was unfolding on the big screen. With a runtime of a little over two hours, <em>Ittefaq</em> keeps you guessing&nbsp;until the end.&nbsp;<br />

Should you be watching<em> Ittefaq</em>? Most certainly yes. It has got in place the basic ingredients of a good murder mystery. It&#39;s edgy, engaging, sleek and you can&#39;t foresee the big twist in the end.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Looks like filmmaker Karan Johar isn&#39;t done discussing the nepotism topic yet. At a promotional event of his upcoming film <em>Ittefaq</em>, the director once again brought up the topic and even took jibes at himself,&nbsp;Akshaye Khanna and Sonakshi Sinha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Johar said that the film industry was willing to make space for all kinds of people. &quot;On the platform, today, there are two non-nepotistic people - Shah Rukh Khan and Sidharth Malhotra and rest of us - Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, Akshaye Khanna, son of late actor Vinod Khanna, Abhay Chopra and Kapil Chopra, sons of late filmmaker Ravi Chopra, are the brand ambassador of nepotism. As we stand together, it speaks a volume about how worth they are equally, efficiently and correctly,&quot; a news agency quoted him as saying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The event also saw Shah Rukh Khan in attendance, who has co-produced the film. When the superstar was asked about his opinion on nepotism, the actor played it safe and said, &quot;I don&#39;t understand this discussion (on nepotism). When I hear the word &#39;nepotism&#39;, I feel the other person is talking about Napoleon. Even though I know enough English, still I don&#39;t understand it and the discussion. Whether I agree or disagree -- I don&#39;t even understand it so how can I have an opinion?&quot;</p>

<p>Johar was accused by actress Kangana Ranaut of being a flagbearer of nepotism in the film industry during one of the episodes of <em>Koffee With Karan</em>. Not only did the statement raised many eyebrows. At the IIFA a few months back, the filmmaker along with Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan had made jokes around Ranaut&#39;s comment and even chanted &#39;Nepotism Rocks&#39; while hosting a segment at the award ceremony. The act, of course, received a lot of criticism from fans and media alike and later the two actors had issued an apology and the filmmaker expressed regret.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Johar and Khan&#39;s co-production <em>Ittefaq&nbsp;</em>is all set to release in theatres on Friday. The film features Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles.&nbsp;</p>
