<p>India's Mariyappan Thangavelu won the silver medal in the men's high jump T42/T63 class at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics on Tuesday (August 31). Mariyappan successfully cleared 1.86m to clinch the coveted award.</p>

<p>Sharad Kumar on the other hand won the bronze medal in the T42 class after clearing 1.83m.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympics touched an unprecedented 10 after the Mariyappan and Sharad's podium finish.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The gold medal was bagged by USA's Sam Grewe (T63 class) after clearing 1.88m. Sam Grewe holds the T63 world record at 1.90m. He even tried to go for the world record at 1.91m, but could not clear it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former NIA chief Sharad Kumar was on Sunday appointed vigilance commissioner in the probity watchdog CVC, news agency PTI reported quoting officials.</p>

<p>The 62-year-old Kumar, a 1979-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, retired in September last year after heading the National Investigation Agency, an anti-terror probe organisation, for over four years.</p>

<p>According to an official order, Kumar has been appointed vigilance commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission for a term of four years or till he attains the age of 65.</p>

<p>The post was lying vacant since February.</p>

<p>According to the rules, Kumar's tenure will come to an end in October 2020. &nbsp &nbsp</p>

<p>The Commission comprises central vigilance commissioner and two vigilance commissioners.&nbsp</p>

<p>At present, K V Chowdary is the CVC and T M Bhasin is the other vigilance commissioner.&nbsp</p>

<p>&quot;Many important cases such as the UNLF (United National Liberation Front) case, Dilsukhnagar (Hyderabad) blast case, ISIS conspiracy cases, and FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) cases resulted in a conviction,&quot; the agency said in a statement.</p>

<p>Yogesh Chander Modi joined the NIA as an officer on special duty on September 22.</p>

<p>He has worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation for 10 years in two stints (2002-2010 and 2015-2017) where he handled special crime and economic offences besides anti-corruption cases.</p>

<p>He has also worked with Cabinet Secretariat between 1991 and 2002 which included a foreign posting.</p>

<p>Before joining the NIA on promotion, Modi was working as Additional Director, CBI, New Delhi.</p>
