Another government source added that Qureshi's visit did not help "scale up the event" and that the event was largely a "damp squib" with the UK giving it a complete miss.&nbsp;

The "<a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/pakistan-foreign-minister-qureshi-leaves-for-london-to-attend-conference-on-kashmir-194877">Kashmir conference</a>" was held in the committee room of the UK parliament.&nbsp;

The official however added that there was no official participation of the UK government and not all members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir (APPG) had attended the meet.&nbsp;

The UK has already clarified that Qureshi's visit was a private one.&nbsp;

The Indian official highlighted that "it is very uncommon that the (Pakistani) FM visited and did not have a meet with UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt".&nbsp;

India had strongly taken up the matter with London, and the official told WION: "UK understood our sensitivities."&nbsp;

On an interesting note, the India DGMO (director general of military operations) was contacted by his Pakistani counterpart over the hotline on Tuesday evening, and informed about a rally at the LoC to mark what the Pakistanis call "Kashmir solidarity day".

The Pakistani DGMO informed the Indian side not to be surprised by it, to which the Indian DGMO replied that if any anything happens, "you will be responsible".

On Saturday, on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Qureshi had made a call to hard-line Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to discuss the current situation in Kashmir.

Geelani is the second Kashmiri separatist leader whom Qureshi called up in the last few days. Earlier, he had a telephonic conversation with Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Talking to the media in Multan on Saturday, Qureshi said that Pakistan has no intention to interfere in the internal matters of India, but New Delhi should also stop blaming Islamabad for its problems, Dawn news reported.

The Foreign Minister acknowledged that he spoke with Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz and India should not make it an issue.

"We want to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue but India is making undue hue and cry," Qureshi was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

"Issues are emerging in India but Pakistan has no role in that," he said.

Qureshi said that he would highlight Pakistan's viewpoint on Kashmir issue at an event in the House of Common in London this week.

The Foreign Minister said that election in India was an internal matter and Islamabad would try to hold talks with the new government if it wanted to work with Pakistan.

India has made it clear to Pakistan that talks and terrorism cannot go together.

Pakistan's relations with many countries have improved because of successful diplomacy of the incumbent government, he claimed.

He said Saudi crown prince would visit Pakistan this month. "New agreements will be signed during his visit," Qureshi said.

The Pakistan Foreign Office said Tuesday that Qureshi spoke with the Hurriyat leader and discussed with him efforts of Pakistan government to highlight the Kashmir issue.

In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs asserted that the entire Jammu and Kashmir "has been, is and shall remain the integral part of India and that Pakistan has no locus stand&nbsp;in any matters related to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, has been made clear again to the High Commissioner of Pakistan."&nbsp;

According to the government sources in New Delhi, India was particularly anguished over Pakistan's statement on Tuesday, sharing details of the conversation that centred around the Kashmir issue.

Though Pakistani leaders may have telephoned separatists in Kashmir in the past but perhaps, it was the first time in recent years that Islamabad put out a statement highlighting the talking points which New Delhi felt was a clear case of violation of the red lines, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's major political parties issued a joint declaration at the end of All Parties Kashmir Conference on Saturday and said that peace in the region was not possible without resolving the Kashmir issue.

Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said earlier Thursday that India would build and develop a corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in (Indian) Punjab's Gurdaspur district to the International Border to facilitate Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of the Ravi river in Pakistan.

Kartarpur Sahib, located just across the International Border in Pakistan, is <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/kartarpur-sahib-pakistani-gurudwara-where-guru-nanak-spent-final-18-years-of-his-life-178745">the final resting place of Guru Nanak</a> — the founder of Sikhism — and one of the holiest shrines of the Sikhs.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary this year of Guru Nanak.

India had on Thursday also urged the Pakistan government to build a corridor — on its side of the border — to Katarpur Sahib to facilitate the easy movement of Indian pilgrims to the shrine.

Pakistan President Arif Alvi on Sunday ruled out establishing any kind of relations with Israel as he strongly rejected reports that an Israeli aircraft carrying some officials secretly landed in Islamabad and flew away after several hours at the airport here.

"Islamabad is not establishing any kind of relations with Israel," Alvi told the media before his departure for Turkey on a three-day official visit in the wee hours of Sunday.

It all started when an Israeli journalist Avi Scharf tweeted on October 25 that an Israeli business jet flew from Tel Aviv to Islamabad where it was on the ground for 10 hours, before flying back to Tel Aviv.

Social media users took note and flayed the Pakistan government with the Opposition also joining in to demand an explanation about the "secret Israeli mission".

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also dismissed reports of an Israeli aircraft landing in Pakistan as fake and baseless.&nbsp;

Qureshi said that something which is not even real does not warrant a response.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has also rejected the reports and said the "government would not negotiate in secret with either Israel or India".

He regretted such reports despite the fact that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had also denied reports of the presence of any Israeli aircraft in Pakistani airspace or at its airports.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ahsan Iqbal, who earlier led the Opposition's barrage, said Chaudhry's reaction showed the government was trying to hide something.

"The parliament should be taken into confidence over the issue," he demanded.

BBC Urdu reported that the aircraft in question was a Canadian-manufactured Bombardier Global Express with the serial number 9394. It was registered on February 22, 2017 in the Isle of Man in the UK by a company called Multibird Overseas Ltd.

The Israeli journalist later said he was not "100 per cent sure" if the plane had landed in Islamabad.

"The relations with US are improving gradually. I have made it clear to the US authorities that Pakistan wants bilateral relations with Washington based on mutual respect and reciprocity,? he said on Saturday.&nbsp;

He also said it would be wrong to expect that all differences between the US and Pakistan could be resolved in one day, the report said.

Qureshi said regional situations evolve and requirements change, but Pakistan's contribution for peace and stability in the region should be acknowledged.

"It will not be appropriate to view our (US-Pak) relations going as far back as seven decades from the Afghan perspective or the Indian lens," he told reporters in Multan after returning from his 10-day visit to the US.

The foreign minister said he had tried to make his American counterparts realise this.

Qureshi, who had met US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton in Washington, said the Foreign Office will continue its efforts to represent Pakistan effectively on international fora.&nbsp;

Islamabad is seeking an American role in facilitating <a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/pm-imran-writes-to-modi-calls-for-resuming-comprehensive-bilateral-dialogue-process-166775">talks between India and Pakistan</a> because the two neighbouring countries are not engaging bilaterally, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said, warning that absence of such a facilitation could lead to escalation of tension.

But the latest Pakistani request in this regard has again been rejected by the US, the top Pakistani diplomat told a Washington audience on Wednesday, a day after he had meetings with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton, during which he raised the issue only to be pushed back by the Trump administration.

"When we asked the US, to play a facilitating role...Why do we ask? Simply because we are not engaging bilaterally. And that bilateral disengagement is...a distraction. We want to focus, we want to move on the western side of the border, which we are not being able to because we have to watch our back from eastern side (towards India). That is not a healthy situation to be in," Mr Qureshi said in response to a question at the US Institute of Peace, a US Congress-funded top American think-tank.

"Now can you (United States) facilitate? The answer from them is no. They wanted (it done) bilaterally. But there is no bilateral movement," Mr Qureshi said. He went on to warn that this could lead to an escalation of tension between the two countries.

"If that lack of facilitation leads to escalation and some of the statements that have come out of late have not been very helpful," the Pakistani foreign minister said in an apparent reference to the remarks by Indian leaders; "the so-called surgical strikes and stuff like that doesn't make sense. It does not, that's politics.. there are elections around the corner," he claimed in response to a question.

Imran Khan's new government in Pakistan, he claimed, is not shy of engaging.

Referring to the cancelling of his meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New York, he alleged that India backed off. However, he quickly evaded India's reasons for this glorification of terrorists by issuing postal stamps and brutal killing of India's security personnel by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

"If the Indians have a better option, share it with us. If disengagement, if not talking to each other will resolve and stabilise the region, fine. If that's their analysis fine, a hassled Mr Qureshi said.

Mr Qureshi who left for Pakistan after his meetings with Trump administration officials said it is unfortunate that the two countries are not engaging. "It's unfortunate. That's the way it is. Now. What does this government want? We want normalisation. We want co-existence. You've got to recognise the reality. Pakistan is a reality. So is India. We have issues. How do we resolve them?" he asked.

After coming to power, the first speech made by the Prime Minister Khan was "that every step you (India) take towards peace, we will take two. And he meant it. It wasn't just because it sounded good. It wasn't to please anyone. He is too blunt a person to please people. He can be very straight and he can be very blunt. But he said that because he feels that way," Mr Qureshi claimed.

India has highlighted how Pakistan created the conditions for cancellation of the meeting in New York - due to Pakistan issuing postage stamps glorifying terrorists and the brutal killing of three of its security personnel by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

The Pakistan foreign minister did not mention that in his answer and only said that the stalled dialogue process is not good for the two countries and the region.

Responding to a question on India's stand that talks and terrorism cannot go together, a view which is shared by Washington too, Mr Qureshi referred to a statement by Imran Khan while he was an opposition leader and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to New Delhi that "there would always be spoilers."

"There will always be spoilers. There will always be elements that will scuttle the process of peace. But when they do that, let us re-engage to fight them. They will push us back. But we have to see what is in our interest, what is in the regional interest. What's in Pakistan's interest," Mr Qureshi said quoting what Imran Khan had told Prime Minister Modi.

Qureshi asserted that Pakistan is serious in the fight against terrorism. "We cannot surrender to terrorism. We will have to take them on and we will have to clear areas. We have successfully done that. Well it's a work in progress, we would have to continue to build on what you've achieved, but to a large extent, things have changed," he said, adding that this shift is not being recognised enough in the US.

"Cutting off training, not giving precision equipment that could've been used against terrorism, I don't know to what extent that'll help. In my view it will not help collectively," he said.

We want to focus, we want to move on the western side of the border, which we are not being able to because we have to watch our back from eastern side (of the border with India). That is not a healthy situation to be in," Qureshi said in response to a question at the US Institute of Peace, a US Congress-funded top American think-tank.&nbsp;

"Now can you (United States) facilitate? The answer from them is no. They wanted bilaterally. But there is no bilateral movement," Qureshi said warning that this could lead to an escalation of tension between the two South Asian countries.

"If that lack of facilitation leads to escalation and some of the statements that have come out of late have not been very helpful," the Pakistani foreign minister said in an apparent reference to the remarks by Indian leaders.&nbsp;

"If the Indians have a better option, share it with us. If disengagement, if not talking to each other will resolve and stabilise the region, fine. If that's their analysis fine," Qureshi said.

"It's unfortunate. That's the way it is. Now. What does this government want? We want normalisation. We want co-existence. You've got to recognise the reality. Pakistan is a reality. So is India. We have issues. How do we resolve them?" he asked.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj emphasised to SAARC countries that an environment of peace and security in South Asia is essential for cooperation and economic development, but Pakistan accused India of obstructing the region's progress and prosperity.

Swaraj's statement on Thursday came at a meeting of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

The SAARC grouping includes India, Pakistan and six other regional countries. It was established in December 1985 with an aim to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia.

"An environment of peace and security is essential for regional cooperation to progress and achieve economic development and prosperity of our people," Swaraj said at the SAARC Ministers Meeting.

She said the number of incidents endangering South Asia are on the rise and terrorism remains the single-largest threat to peace and stability in the geopolitical region, and the world.

"It is necessary that we eliminate the scourge of terrorism in all its forms, without any discrimination, and end the ecosystem of its support," she said according to sources.

Swaraj left the SAARC meeting early.

Shortly after her statement, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters that Pakistan wants to see SAARC become result-oriented.

"We have to decide the next step. I have no hesitation in saying that in the way of SAARC's progress and in the way of the region's connectivity and prosperity, there is only one obstruction and one attitude. The attitude of one nation is making the spirit of SAARC and the spirit of the founding fathers of SAARC unfulfilled," he said, without naming India.

Asked if he had talks with Swaraj at the meeting, Qureshi denied. "She left the meeting mid-way, may be she was not feeling well," he said.

He said Swaraj talked about regional cooperation, but "my question is how will regional cooperation be possible when the regional nations are ready to sit together and you are the obstruction in that dialogue and discussion."

Qureshi said a majority of the members present in the meeting understands the significance of SAARC. "They want to move on. I cant speak for them but I can deduce from their body language, disappointment; because if you do not move on and if you do not sit and convene meetings how do you move on," he said.

He cited other regional groupings such as ASEAN and the EU and said "look at this (SAARC) atmosphere"

He called Swaraj's statement at the meeting "very vague".

He said "you said the next summit will not happen until there is conducive environment. How do you define what conducive environment is? It can vary from country to country."

India cited attacks by Islamabad-backed groups in Jammu and Kashmir and stamps released by Pakistan glorifying Kashmiri terrorists as reasons for cancellation of the proposed talks.

SAARC member-states have previously said they view the strained relations between India and Pakistan as one of the reasons for the little progress achieved by the geopolitical grouping in recent years.

Nepal And Sri Lanka have expressed interest in reviving the summit postponed in 2016 after New Delhi pulled out over Islamabad's unrelenting support to terrorist activities in India and after Pakistan-based terrorists attack an Indian Army base in Uri.

Bhutan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan had also joined India in boycotting the summit.

Peace, security in South Asia essential for progress: Swaraj at SAARC meet

SAARC informal meet on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly saw India snubbing Pakistan and strongly raising the issue of terror.

The meet that happened in The Westin Grand Central hotel in New York was attended by all members of SAARC but the meeting that was to happen for two hours concluded in just over one hour with India's external affairs minister making the statement and leaving.

But it was Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was at his undiplomatic best. Confirming that there were no talks between India and Pakistan, Qureshi said, "EAM left midway, maybe she wasn't feeling well. I listened to her statement. She talked of regional cooperation. How is regional cooperation possible, when everybody is ready to sit &amp; talk &amp; you're blocking that?"

Without taking name he said, "attitude of one country is blocking the progress of SAARC, connectivity&amp;prosperity of this region &amp; defying the spirit of SAARC".

Meanwhile, India has slammed Pakistan saying remarks by Pakistani Foreign Minister about EAM leaving SAARC foreign minister's informal meeting were "surprising and unfortunate." New Delhi also dismissed allegations by Pakistani Foreign Min regarding India not being serious about SAARC as "baseless &amp; away from reality."

India did extensively talked about various SAARC related projects &amp; expressed its commitment for making SAARC a success as a regional grouping.

Interestingly, Afghanistan's foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani had also left from SAARC FMs meet midway. Afghanistan has already highlight Pakistan using terror as a policy.

"It was a handshake at a luncheon with other world leaders," a National Security Council spokesperson told PTI.

Informed sources in New York tracking Trump's engagement confirmed to PTI that Trump had no meeting with Qureshi and that it was never planned.

The pool of reporters who follow Trump and report about his meetings with the world leaders did not mention the US president's meeting with Qureshi either.

The White House pool, which covered the luncheon, also did not mention Trump having a long chat with Qureshi, which would have had come to the attention of the reporters.

"Spotted: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau briefly approached Trump and shook his hand as Trump stayed seated at the head table just before lunch started," a White House pool report said.

"He (Trump) is shaking hands and mingling," it said.

The luncheon was hosted by the UN secretary general in honour of the heads of state and government.

The lunch kicked off at 1:27 pm (local time), with the secretary general offering the introductory remarks, according to a White House pool report of the luncheon.

"Trump sat with his arms crossed and occasionally nodded. Secretary general offered a toast and Trump took a sip of what appeared to be a glass of red wine after the toast. Trump began his remarks at 1:31 pm," the report stated.

"I've long said the United Nations has great potential...," Trump said according to the report.

"His toast ended at 1:33 pm. Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa is seated at Trump's table as is Croatia president, others unknown," the pool report stated.&nbsp;

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf party has finalised three nominees for the position of caretaker prime minister for the interim government, a party spokesperson said on Monday.

Retired Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, industrialist Abdur Razzaq Dawood and banker-cum-economist Ishrat Hussain were the three nominees finalised by the party for the position of caretaker prime minister, party spokesman Fawad Chaudhry was quoted as saying by Dawn News TV.

The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) government will conclude its five-year term on May 31, after which the caretaker setup will be put in place to hold elections, expected in July or the first week of August.

According to the party, Shah Mehmood Qureshi will present the names to Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah, who is responsible for forwarding opposition nominees for the position to the prime minister.

Shah and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have already held the first round of consultations regarding the all-important position as the responsibility for holding free and fair elections is tied to it.

Justice Jillani has served as the chief justice of Pakistan between 2013 and 2014 and was also appointed as an ad hoc judge on behalf of Pakistan at the International Court of Justice in Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav's case.&nbsp;

Jadhav, 47, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April last year, following which India moved The Hague-based ICJ in May.

Economist Ishrat Hussain has served as the governor of State Bank of Pakistan as well as dean of the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

Dawood, an industrialist by profession, served as commerce minister in former president Pervez Musharraf's cabinet between 1999 and 2002.

Politician Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party has urged the government to immediately sever trade ties with India over the death of 13 people including three soldiers in alleged Indian firing along the Line of Control (LoC).
