Women and girls as young as nine were raped by Sudan's RSF, which is engaged in conflict with Sudan Armed Forces, also engaged in sexual violence, since the conflict broke out in 2023, according to a report by Human Rights Watch.

Both RSF or Rapid Support Forces and SAF&nbsp;engaged in rape, gang rape, and other forms of sexual violence of girls and women aged up to 60. RSF appears to have been the worst perpetrators when compared to SAF, according to the HRW report released on Sunday (July 28).

HRW was able to document at least 262 survivors of sexual violence since the conflict broke out.

According to survivors, many were gang-raped by up to four RSF fighters, in some cases, in front of family members.

"RSF members sexually assaulted women and girls in front of their family members," said the report, particularly noting a case where a mother and her four daughters were raped "repeatedly for days" in front of their father and brothers after putting them under house arrest.

The rights group cited a lawyer who received “reports of rape of six girls, one girl aged 9 years old” and a psychologist who said out of over&nbsp;25 survivor cases he recorded, “at least 80 per cent were aged between 12 and 18."

Men and boys have also been victims of sexual violence, it said.

The conflict-related sexual violence in the impoverished African country was recorded by the rights group from interviews with healthcare professionals, psychiatrists and other care providers&nbsp;in the capital of Khartoum Bahri and Omdurman cities.

<h2>Forced child marriages</h2>

"Women and girls have also been subjected to forced marriage and child marriage," the rights body said in the report, which was compiled&nbsp;based on interviews conducted between September 2023 and February 2024.

The HRW report claimed that RSF forced some women and children into marriage in Khartoum.&nbsp;

The conflict broke out as a result of rivalry between two military chiefs who together ousted a civilian transitional government in 2021:&nbsp;General Abdelfattah al-Burhan who leads SAF and Gen&nbsp;Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the RSF leader.

But it looks like the company is using one of those giant planes as a testbed so that they can experiment with technology and prepare for the future of the aviation industry.&nbsp;

For the unversed, Airbus has flown other aircraft using 100% SAF before, both its A350 and A319neo last year. However, these recent flights mark the first time it has experimented with the A380.&nbsp;

The A380 is a large wide-body airliner that was developed and produced by Airbus - the world's largest passenger airliner.&nbsp;

Steven Le Moing, who is Airbus' SAF program manager, described the SAF-powered engine's performance as completely "normal" and was the same as what they'd seen in previous tests on the other aircraft.&nbsp;

The company informed that Airbus' A380 test aircraft MSN 1 took off from Blagnac Airport, Toulouse, France at 08h43 on March 25. The flight lasted about three hours, operating one Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine on 100% SAF.&nbsp;

The SAF produced was made from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA), free of aromatics and sulphur, and primarily consisting of used cooking oil, as well as other waste fats.&nbsp;

"Increasing the use of SAF remains a key pathway to achieving the industry's ambition of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Key statistics outlined in the Waypoint 2050 report indicate that SAF could contribute between 53% and 71% of required carbon reductions," the company said.&nbsp;

It is important to note that all Airbus aircraft are currently certified to fly with up to a 50% blend of SAF mixed with kerosene. The aim is to achieve certification of 100% SAF by the end of this decade.&nbsp;
