O'Sullivan, who had a run-in with Carter in 2018 when the two players 'shoulder-barged' each other during a match at the World Championship, also accused his opponent of being a nightmare to play against. "He's a nightmare. To have to play&nbsp;snooker&nbsp;against someone like that is a nightmare. (He's) not a nice person, not a nice vibe that he leaves around the table," the seven-time world champion said.

"Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice feeling and a job well done, but I get more of a buzz from going for a run in the morning or having breakfast with my mate. I don't actually feel like ever playing. O'Sullivan also said one day he will part with everything, including his cues and snooker outfits. "I'm not really bothered about trophies. I've sold quite a few of them -- I don't want any memorabilia left by the time I'm 70 or 80. I'm preparing for death -- part of that is I don't want no snooker stuff -- waistcoats, cues, it's all going."

O'Sullivan has won 39 ranking tournaments in his illustrious career and is widely regarded as one of the best potters of all time, but has often had a love-hate relationship with the sport. Earlier this year he claimed he had "carried" snooker for the past two decades.

"You don't have to be Einstein. It is probably in the worst place it has ever been. The image of the sport, it's a bit like a pub sport now," he said in March.

With O'Sullivan struggling with his game, Brecel scored breaks of 112, 64, 72, 61, 78 and 63 to seize control. Brecel will become the first Belgian to reach the final if he can get by either Anthony McGill or Si Jiahui in the semis.

The showpiece match at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre was in the balance when the evening session started, with&nbsp;O'Sullivan&nbsp;leading 14-11 in the best of 35-frame contest after 2019 world champion Trump had bounced back from 12-5 down overnight.

But having lost his first session of the tournament,&nbsp;O'Sullivan, at 46, the oldest World Championship finalist since mentor Ray Reardon in 1982, surged ahead before sealing victory with a break of 85.

A sporting&nbsp;O'Sullivan, nicknamed the 'Rocket' for his speed round the table and widely regarded as the most naturally talented player in snooker history, paid tribute to Trump by saying his opponent was already an "all-time great" because of his attacking approach.

He then played down his achievement in matching Hendry's tally of world titles by telling the BBC: "I've never bothered about records -- when you get them, it's kind of nice, I've never performed well if going for that, I've just tried to enjoy my game.

"I don't have targets... I like to win but it's not the be-all and end-all.&nbsp;

"The Crucible brings out the worst in me -- it's probably not the best idea but we'll probably go again next year!"

Monday's triumph came 21 years after&nbsp;O'Sullivan&nbsp;first won the world title with Hendry, now a television commentator, saying: "He's taken the game to new levels, he really has. He's got it all."

It was a point endorsed by Trump, who said of&nbsp;O'Sullivan: "It's been a pleasure to share a table with him. It's an amazing achievement and he's the best player of all time."
