Terrorists had opened fire on a bus transporting pilgrims from Shiv Khori to Katra on June 9 in the Pouni region of the Reasi district, forcing the vehicle to crash.

On June 15, the NIA assumed control of the case under orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The raids in Rajouri were carried out based on information from Hakam Khan, also known as Hakin Din, a major suspect apprehended on June 19 in the terror incident.&nbsp;

In its preliminary investigation, the NIA revealed that Din supposedly gave the terrorists shelter, food, and logistical help.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi Mohita Sharma said that Din not only provided shelter to the assailants but also enabled their movements.

"The arrested person is a prime militant associate who helped the terrorists in the execution of the attack. Further interrogation and investigation of the case is going on," she said.

Din disclosed&nbsp;that three terrorists were staying at his home throughout, and added that the terrorists gave him ₹6,000.

Following a spate of terror incidents in June in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the security situation in the Union territory.&nbsp;

The government is "seriously" concerned about the recent terror incidents, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and no effort would be spared to get to the bottom of this investigation.

"The enemies of peace and humanity are not happy with the development in Jammu and Kashmir. There were some terror attacks recently... the government has taken it seriously. The Home Minister, with the J&amp;K Administration, has reviewed the situation," PM Modi said.

In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a person allegedly associated with the June 9 Reasi terror attack, in which a bus carrying pilgrims was targeted, killing nine people. This is the first arrest in the case.

According to officials, the 45-year-old accused Hakim Din is resident of Bandrahi, Rajouri district. Police believe the defendant gave the terrorists logistical support.

The accused was in communication with the militants who had assaulted the bus near Ransoo in Pouni tehsil, according to a senior police officer who verified the arrest.&nbsp;

"One formally arrested in the Reasi terror attack. He's not the mastermind but played an important role in the attack," Reasi senior superintendent of police, Mohita Sharma, said.

I reached the spot of the incident after 1.5 hours but the local police reached the spot immediately and were involved in the rescue of the injured...Since it was the day of the swearing-in ceremony of the new govt and India-Pakistan match, we were on alert. We did not get any specific input regarding this attack..." SSP Mohita Sharma added.

"Significant leads have been uncovered, aiding in the identification and capture of those who may be potentially involved in orchestrating the attack," according to the police, who had earlier hauled up 50 persons in connection with the case.

A travel booking company manager whose bus was targeted by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi recounted the attack and revealed that the driver sacrificed his life for the safety of passengers by refusing to deboard them.

At least 10 people lost their lives and 33 were wounded after the bus rolled down a gorge in Reasi district on Sunday (Jun 9) after being fired upon by terrorists. The victims were Hindu pilgrims.

The bus, en route from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra, was targeted by terrorists at around 6:10 pm when it reached the Pouni area.

"The bus used to ply from Katra to Shiv Khori daily, booking occurred daily. But we had never thought that this could happen to our vehicle,"&nbsp;news agency ANI quoted manager Ranjit Singh as saying. 
 
"We used to hear of things like this in Kashmir but this area was safe. We never thought that this could happen to us. As soon as the bus left in the morning, we received a call at 5 o'clock that there had been firing on our vehicle...When we did a little investigation, we came to know that it was an attack by militants," Singh said.

"Passengers told us that the militant got into the bus and told the driver to make the passengers deboard the bus. The driver sensed that the man was a militant.

"He refused to make the passengers deboard, he sped up the bus. As soon as he sped up the bus, the militant fired a bullet," Singh said.

"The bus lost balance but the driver kept driving. When the driver didn't stop, he (militant) shot him in the head and killed him...Then the conductor took hold of the steering. As soon as he did that, the militant shot 3-4 bullets at the conductor too. He killed them both. The bus lost balance and fell into a gorge", he added.

Had the driver not shown his presence of mind, no passenger aboard the vehicle would have survived, Singh said.

"They might have even set the bus on fire. The driver did well and sacrificed himself for the 40 passengers", he said.

Meanwhile, Reasi police announced a reward of two million rupees&nbsp; (23,921.66 USD) for any fruitful information about the whereabouts of terrorists involved in the recent attack on the bus carrying Hindu pilgrims.&nbsp;

The sketch of the militant has been prepared based on details and description provided by eyewitnesses.

Furthermore, the Reasi police have announced a reward of rupees 2 million ($23,934) for any fruitful information about the whereabouts of the terrorist involved in the&nbsp;attack. A&nbsp;sketch of the militant has also&nbsp;been prepared on the disclosure and description of eyewitnesses.

Jammu region's Rajouri Poonch belt has become a hub of terrorists in the last few months. Most of the active terrorists in the whole Union Territory are foreigners belonging to Pakistan.

There have been multiple terror attacks in the region in recent times and most of them were carried out by foreign terrorists active in the area, the majority of them belonging to Lashkar e Taiba and Jaish e Muhammad terror groups.

Security forces have been on a hunt for these terrorists in the region although the topography plays a big hurdle as the whole belt is a dense forest and gives an edge to the terrorists to hide after these ambush attacks.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police recently released three pictures of foreign terrorists active in the Rajouri Poonch belt.

All three terrorists are of Pakistan origin and are associated with Lashkar group.

The first terrorist is the top commander of Lashkar identified as Abu Hamza. The second terrorist, identified as Fauji, is said to be a former Pakistani Army Commando and the third terrorist is identified as Aadun,&nbsp;also a Pakistani active in the belt for the last year.&nbsp;

LG of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who also heads the Unified Command, held a meeting today with regard to the security situation in the Union Territory.

The meeting was attended by the top officials of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, CRPF and BSF. The LG also stressed the security of the Upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is starting on June 29.&nbsp;

According to the security forces, a multi-level security system has been planned for the Amarnath Yatra.

The Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, BSF, SSB and CRPF have made coordinated security arrangements.

Adequate security arrangements have been made on both the routes from Jammu to the holy cave.

According to sources, the central government has deployed 30,000 additional CRPF security personnel for multi-level security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra.

According to an estimate, about 60,000 security personnel will be deployed on both the routes from Jammu to the cave, Pahalgam and Baltal.

The latest technologies and equipment will be used to make the Yatra foolproof, journey safe and easy.

Technology has been upgraded, which also includes the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards.

All the pilgrims who come will be tagged. Which will know the position of the pilgrims, apart from this UAV, CCTV cameras will also be used.&nbsp;

The technology will play a key role in the three-tier security system in Amarnath Yatra security. Quadcopters, NVD, anti-drone teams, and bomb disposal squads are part of the security scenario.&nbsp;

Briefing about the developments, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Rayees Mohammad Bhat informed they have got some leads as around 11 teams of police, army and CRPF are working together to catch the&nbsp;terrorists.

“I will never forget those 20-25 minutes of horror, as soon as I heard the bullets being fired, I bent down and hid my two children under the bus," said Bhawani Shankar, a survivor of the deadly terror attack on the bus carrying pilgrims.

"On seeing the militant, the first thing that came to my mind was that we will not survive,” he said.

 
“Before I could think any further, I saw the driver’s head falling on the steering wheel, and the bus falling into the gorge,” shares Shankar.
