<p>The electoral battle in Jaipur Rural constituency in Rajasthan can easily be billed as a clash of the titans as two former Olympians - the BJP's Rajyavardhan Rathore and Congress's Krishna Poonia - are pitted against each other from here for the Lok Sabha polls.</p>

<p>Rathore, a former Colonel in the Indian Army, started his political innings by joining the BJP in September 2013 after taking voluntary retirement.</p>

<p>In 2014, he was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) in Lok Sabha from Jaipur Rural seat and was sworn in as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.</p>

<p>In 2017, the Padma Shree awardee was given independent charge of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.</p>

<p>Krishna Poonia, who is the first Indian woman track-and-field athlete to win an individual gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, represents Churu district's Sadulpur assembly seat. She was named the Congress candidate from Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat on April 1.</p>

<p>She joined Congress party at an election rally in Churu in 2013 and believes that Congress was the natural choice for her as her family has traditionally supported the party.</p>

<p>The Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat, which has 19.33 lakh electorates, 9.12 lakh of them female, is dominated by the Jat community, followed by Brahmin, Yadav and Scheduled Caste voters. The caste equation is favourable for Poonia who belongs to the Jat community.</p>

<p>Of the eight assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituency, the ruling Congress has five seats, two are with the BJP and one is with an Independent MLA. During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP had five seats while the Congress had two assembly seats falling under the Jaipur Rural constituency.</p>

<p>The 25 parliamentary constituencies of Rajasthan will go to polls in two phases.</p>

<p>Polling will be held in 13 constituencies in the fourth phase on April 29.</p>

<p>The rest of the 12 seats including Jaipur Rural will vote in the fifth phase on May 6.</p>

<p>In the wake of raids at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) office by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Thursday said that the Central government is committed to corruption-free India, adding that when the government found corrupt practices by a few officials of the SAI, they asked to raid the office.</p>

<p>"We, as a govt, are committed to a corruption-free India. That`s why when we found out corrupt practices by a few officers in @IndiaSports, we gave their info to relevant agencies, who arrested them today. We will continue to have zero tolerance approach towards corruption @PMOIndia," Rathore tweeted.</p>

<p>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the same day arrested four officials of SAI, including Director SAI Sanjay Kumar Sharma and two private persons during an ongoing raid, in connection with alleged corruption in the transport department in the office.</p>

<p>The raids were carried following bribery allegations against some SAI officials.</p>

<p>When asked about the raid, SAI Director General Neelam Kapoor told ANI, "There is zero tolerance for corruption in SAI. We will support any action against corruption."</p>

<p>There were some complaints against some officers that they were taking a bribe for approving work, sources said. In the wake of the complaints, the SAI asked the CBI to investigate the matter.</p>

<p>Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that bodies like the Food and Beverage Alliance of India (FBIA) have already decided to voluntarily restrict food and beverage advertisements concerning children.</p>

<p>On whether the government proposes to impose a ban on telecast of junk food and cold/soft drinks advertisements on television, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani said in a written reply that &quot;presently there is no such proposal&quot;.</p>

<p>Nine major food business operators have decided not to advertise products with high fat, salt or sugar on children&#39;s channels, she said.</p>

<p>While asking supplementaries, some MPs raised concerns about junk food affecting the health of children.</p>

<p>The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had constituted an expert group to address the issue of high fat, sugar and salt foods.</p>

<p>&quot;The expert group in its report made a recommendation regarding ban on food with high fat, sugar and salt advertising on children&#39;s channels or during children shows.</p>

<p>&quot;On this recommendation, the remarks of the FSSAI were that the food businesses could be asked to voluntarily desist from advertising high fat, sugar and salt foods on children&#39;s channels,&quot; Irani said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Delhi High Court on Thursday gave the go-ahead for half-marathon as planned after the organisers assured the court that they have put in place a refund policy for those who want to opt out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Question: Opposition has charged that demonetisation has caused substantial public inconvenience and not delivered on the&nbsp;economic front as argued by the government. How to do you see this?</p>

<p>See the amount of corruption which existed in the country. See the position we were ranked. Everything was being affected by the parallel economy which was running, including getting into educational institutions. The taxation circle was small and a&nbsp;large number of people weren&rsquo;t paying taxes. The question is whether we want short-term effort which already existed. This measure is for a larger majority and that&rsquo;s why it&rsquo;s getting support from people.</p>

<p>Our Prime Minister has sought 50 days. Things are easing down. ATM machines have been tweaked. Liquidity has increased. I understand that there is anxiety among people but a strong decision has been taken. The issue is that people are also hoarding currency but I&rsquo;m sure that this anxiety will and should ease and there is no restriction in spending cash. Of&nbsp;course, we are supporting transactions online but cash use is not prohibited. Those who cannot handle mobile phones&nbsp;can use cash. So overall there is a balance between cash and digital transactions. We were spending 80 per cent in cash in India and we would like to change it.</p>

<p>Q: Lot of tweaking has taken place. Is it because the government wasn&rsquo;t prepared or new issues and realities came in and the Centre had to respond to it?</p>

<p>The preparation was done but it has been a mix of both. Be it business or military you prepare but sometimes you need to change things. I admit that it was a mix of both. You need to be flexible. Eventually, you have to see how the situation is so that people aren&rsquo;t burdened and if you find that people are trying to cut corners then the system has to respond to it. The objective isn&rsquo;t politics but providing strength to the country.</p>

<p>Question: Demonetisation as an economic exercise has political repercussions. Do you expect it to impact forthcoming assembly elections?</p>

<p>My constituency is Jaipur rural and I meet people every day and I&rsquo;m telling you that people are very happy. Look at the results which came from Chandigarh. Out of overall 26 seats, we won more than 20. Look at the results. We have done well. Such decisions aren&rsquo;t done for political goals. A decision like this impacts the country in many ways and is meant for changing the direction of the country so that things change. Like the Prime Minister said the other day that a time should come that it shouldn&rsquo;t take more than six minutes for people to get loans from banks. Once things are accounted for everything will be sorted. It will ensure that benefits pass down to the last man standing.</p>

<p>Q: Opposition says that methods have become very intrusive like now Rs 5,000 and above can only be deposited once without scrutiny?</p>

<p>A very small fraction is trying to subvert the mechanism whereas the larger majority isn&rsquo;t doing so. The only thing people are being asked to do is to deposit cash in a go and not in batches and it has to be communicated to people fairly.</p>

<p>Q: Are you saying that the step will help&nbsp;eventually?</p>

<p>It is all being done so that we have an India which is digital and accounted for.&nbsp;</p>
