Fawad Chaudhry, another minister in the Imran Khan administration taunted Nawaz Sharif saying it seemed that the former premier got better as soon as he stood on the plane’s walkway.&nbsp;

When asked about the jibes being aimed at Sharif, a PML-N Senator, Pervaiz Rashid said that the party would issue a response soon but didn’t feel the need to counter the allegations immediately.&nbsp;

The three-time Prime Minister was recently given the go-ahead to fly out of the country by the Lahore High Court to seek treatment abroad.&nbsp;

Sharif, who was tried and convicted by Pakistan’s Accountability Court, is said to be suffering from multiple ailments, including a critically low platelet count due to prolonged kidney disease.

In Karachi, Pakistan's commercial capital, thousands of supporters of the PPP, Pakistan's other main opposition party, gathered to hear party leader Bilawal Bhutto, son of the murdered former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Banners reading "PTI brought price hikes, PTI brought joblessness, PTI brought economic terrorism" hung over the main stage. There were similar protests in other cities including Lahore and Peshawar.

Khan's government came to power with Pakistan already nearing a balance of payments crisis, and this month agreed a $6 billion bailout with the International Monetary Fund that came with tough austerity conditions including more taxes and an agreement to let the rupee currency fall sharply.

It has dismissed the opposition protests and blamed the economic turmoil on massive corruption and economic mismanagement by previous governments, accusing their leaders of shifting millions of dollars out of the country illegally.

PML-N founder and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz' father, is currently serving a 7-year sentence on corruption charges. His successor, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has also been arrested on corruption charges. He denies wrongdoing.

The arrests have fed the anger of opposition parties, who say the government has manipulated the justice system to crush its adversaries.

Earlier this month, PML-N officials produced video evidence they said showed the judge responsible for sentencing Nawaz Sharif had been blackmailed into convicting him. The judge, who said the PML-N had also attempted to blackmail him, has since been sacked from the court that decided the Nawaz case.

The ruling party of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched another blistering attack on the press, linking critical coverage to potential "treason" in the latest broadside against the beleaguered media.

The official account of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party fired off over two dozen tweets in English and Urdu late Tuesday, lambasting the press for coverage criticising the government and PM Imran&nbsp;Khan which it deemed "anti-state".

"Freedom of expression is beauty of democracy. Expressing enemy's stance is not freedom of speech but treason against its people," read one tweet.

"Media houses &amp; journalists must take care that in their quest for criticism on State, they intentionally or unintentionally do not end up propagating enemy's stance," read another, with the hashtag: #JournalismNotAgenda.

In recent years the space for dissent has shrunk further, with the government announcing a crackdown on social networks and traditional media houses decrying pressure from authorities that they say has resulted in widespread self-censorship.

Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders recently warned of "disturbing dictatorial tendencies" after three Pakistani TV stations were briefly taken off air in what it called "brazen censorship".

The Committee to Protect Journalist last year warned that the powerful Pakistani military had "quietly, but effectively, set restrictions on reporting".

The government has defended its record, and last week Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a media freedom conference in London that there was "no question of gagging" journalists after being challenged on his country's record.

The SC has demanded Khan&#39;s counsel to submit documents that prove he borrowed and returned 560,000 pounds to his former wife Jemima, Dawn reported.

Khan&#39;s lawyer Bokhari told the court that the money was transferred to Jemima through an account in the Royal Bank.&nbsp;

Bokhari requested the court to grant time to track down the money trail of 100,000 pounds.&nbsp;

The three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir has also asked Khan for the account details of Niazi Services Limited, Khan&#39;s offshore company, that was dissolved in 2015.&nbsp;

The court also&nbsp;demanded the money trail of 75,000 pounds that were remitted in 2000 from London to Pakistan, but Bokhari said&nbsp;that the bank records of the transfer were&nbsp;not available.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan yesterday accused Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of pursuing his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi&rsquo;s interests in the country after the government cracked the&nbsp;whip on his supporters, news agency Press Trust of India reported.&nbsp;

At least 100 supporters of Khan&#39;s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were arrested on Sunday.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

&quot;About 450 people entered Islamabad today,&quot; Pakistan&#39;s interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was quoted as saying by Iran&#39;s television network, Press TV Iran.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

&quot;Police intercepted them but most of them ran away, many leaving their cars behind. Police arrested more than 100 of them,&quot; he added.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

According to media reports, police resorted to&nbsp;force and used tear-gas and baton to stop the PTI activists from reaching Bani Gala residence of Khan in Pak&#39;s capital, Islamabad. However, no PTI worker suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the PTI chief lashed out at the government saying: &ldquo;When Nawaz Sharif went to London for whatever kind of surgery, he on the hospital bed first telephoned Modi instead of his mother or children.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Addressing a press conference outside his Bani Gala residence here, he was referring to Sharif&rsquo;s open heart surgery at a London hospital in May, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

A day after Pakistan information minister Pervaiz Rashid was sacked over the recent &ldquo;leaked&rdquo; media report about a rift between the civilian and military leaderships on support to militancy, Khan took a jibe at the Nawaz Sharif government.&nbsp;

&ldquo;Nawaz is following Modi&rsquo;s &lsquo;interests&rsquo; in Pakistan. Nawaz is behind the security leaks story which defamed the armed forces. Actually, his and Modi&rsquo;s agenda is same,&rdquo; Khan was quoted as saying.&nbsp;

He claimed that &quot;everybody knows&quot; that the sacked minister cannot leak sensitive information to the media on his own.

&nbsp;

&ldquo;Rashid is a darbari (courtier) and he did what Nawaz told him to do so.&quot; &nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;

&ldquo;The whole state machinery is being used to save a corrupt Prime Minister. I will not accept a &lsquo;suspect&rsquo; as Prime Minister of Pakistan. As long as I am alive I will not go after Nawaz Sharif&rsquo;s corruption,&rdquo; the 64-year-old political leader told the press.&nbsp;

Khan went on to say that there was no difference between Pervez Musharraf&rsquo;s dictatorship and Sharif&rsquo;s democracy. &nbsp;

Meanwhile, Islamabad police said they recovered five Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, six magazines, a bulletproof vest, alcohol and three tear gas shells from PTI leader Amin Gandapur&rsquo;s car outside Bani Gala.

A lockdown has been announced by&nbsp;Khan&#39;s PTI&nbsp;in a bid to create pressure on Sharif to resign over Panama Papers&#39; revelations about his family&#39;s offshore wealth.&nbsp;

While talking to international news agency Reuters, Khan&nbsp;dismissed accusations that the November 2 shutdown in Islamabad can lead to a military coup.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

&quot;How can a democrat want the military to come in?,&quot; Khan&nbsp;was quoted as saying by Reuters as he dismissed allegations that he wanted the&nbsp;army to topple Sharif.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

&quot;He has to answer. He can&#39;t hide behind `democracy in danger`.&quot;&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Khan&nbsp;has pledged to bring a million people out on roads to &quot;protest against corruption&quot;.&nbsp;

However, the Pakistan government has accused Khan of endangering democracy by attempting to draw Pakistan`s powerful military into a political dispute, Reuters reported.

In a bid to foil the protests, the government has already blocked provincial roads to the capital and arrested around 1,000 Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf workers so far.&nbsp;

'Mass protests no danger to democracy' A lockdown has been announced by Khan's PTI in a bid to create pressure on Sharif to resign over Panama Papers' revelations about his family's offshore wealth. While talking to international news agency Reuters, Khan dismissed accusations that the November 2 shutdown in Islamabad can lead to a military coup. "How can a democrat want the military to come in?," Khan was quoted as saying by Reuters as he dismissed allegations that he wanted the army to topple Sharif. "He has to answer. He can't hide behind `democracy in danger`." Khan has pledged to bring a million people out on roads to "protest against corruption". However, the Pakistan government has accused Khan of endangering democracy by attempting to draw Pakistan`s powerful military into a political dispute, Reuters reported. In a bid to foil the protests, the government has already blocked provincial roads to the capital and arrested around 1,000 Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf workers so far.
