<p>Up to 25 prison staff were affected, raising concerns about security within the facility. Inmates are allowed to work in the canteen after risk assessments, but these are supposed to be low-risk prisoners.</p>

<p>A prior inspection by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons had already identified high levels of violence and easy access to drugs at the prison.</p>

<p>"Prisoners preparing food in the staff canteen spiked a "staff special curry" with what is believed to be an NPS. 25 staff were affected and were witnessed under the influence of NPS," Andy Hamlin, an official for the CJWU, told The Metro.</p>

UK prison guards hospitalised after inmates poison staff food with dangerous drug

<p>Members of organised criminal groups get hired as prison guards with the “sole purpose” of smuggling contraband into the prisons in UK, the Prison Officers’ Association (POA) has warned.</p>

<p>The POA, the union representing prison workers, has said that online interviews were the prime contributor of “hiring the wrong people”.</p>

<p>“Organised crime groups realise that there’s a lot of money to be made by smuggling contraband into prisons. People can be recruited as a prison officer and go into [the jail] with that sole purpose of bringing contraband in, to make a lot of money. They can do it by themselves or for an organised crime group,” a POA spokesperson said, according to the Guardian.</p>

<p>“You get paid to train and you do whatever you want after that. If you have a good run, you don’t get caught and get out after five or six months having made good bucks. It sounds a bit surreal. But that’s actually happening.”</p>

<p>The union said that a vast majority of prisons are facing this problem, and added that fail-safety measures are needed to curb this practice.</p>

<p>“In the vast majority of prisons, a lot of young staff could be conditioned into bringing stuff in, and other staff come to us with the sole intended purpose of taking stuff in.”</p>

But most corruption isn’t that – most corruption is that someone naive gets into a relationship, sexual or otherwise, with a prisoner which is inappropriate. And of course, once you’ve been pulled in, it’s very hard to stop,” Charlie Taylor, the chief inspector of prisons, told the Guardian.</p>

<p>The police officer recalled a case where 18 female guards were fired&nbsp;and three were jailed for having relationships with prisoners at HMP Berwyn in north Wales.</p>

<p>The past year has seen a series of revelations regarding what some Israeli media call the Gilboa "Pimping Affair," a reference to widespread reports that male supervisors ordered female guards into situations where they were vulnerable to assault by inmates.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last week, a woman identifying herself as a former guard,&nbsp;anonymously posted her testimony online. She said she was repeatedly raped by a Palestinian prisoner.</p>

<p>The woman said that she was "handed over" to him by her superiors and became his "private sex slave".</p>

<p>"I didn't want to be raped, to be violated again and again," she said.</p>

<p>Keren Barak, the woman's lawyer affirmed the testimony on Israeli channel during the weekend. Barak said her client needed mental health support.</p>

<p>Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid told his cabinet on Sunday: "It cannot be (tolerated) that a soldier is raped by a terrorist during her service."</p>

<p>"It must – and will be – investigated. We will make certain that the soldier receives assistance," Lapid said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a separate statement on Sunday, Internal Security Minister Omer Barlev said, the "affair that happened a few years ago in Gilboa prison," had "shaken the Israeli public."</p>

<p>"I read the testimonies that are published and I am simply shocked," Barlev said.&nbsp;</p>
