Pfizer and BioNTech have said their COVID-19 vaccine remained 100 per cent effective in children 12 to 15 years old, four months after the second dose. The companies said that the new data, which involved 2,228 trial participants, will help support their applications for full approval in the United States and worldwide.

Canada on Wednesday approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children aged 12 years and up, becoming the first nation to do so. "This is the first vaccine authorized in Canada for the prevention of Covid-19 in children and marks a significant milestone in Canada's fight against the pandemic," Health Canada chief medical advisor Supriya Sharma told a news conference.

BioNTECh-Pfizer claimed on Wednesday that their coronavirus vaccine has an efficacy of 100 per cent in the 12 to 15-year-old age group. Phase 3 trials conducted on 2,260 adolescents in the US showed "100 per cent efficacy and robust antibody responses", the pharma giants said in a statement.
