<p>US Customs and Border Protection data highlights a significant influx of undocumented Indian immigrants, with 6,917 encounters in the period from October 2022 to September 2023.</p>

<p>The number surged after COVID-19 border restrictions eased, reaching 63,927 in the 2022 fiscal year, with 97,000 encounters this year.</p>

<p>“The total number of unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. from countries other than Mexico has grown rapidly. In 2021, this population was 6.4 million, up by 900,000 from 2017,”&nbsp;the research says.</p>

<p>“Almost every region in the world had a notable increase in the number of unauthorized immigrants in the US&nbsp;from 2007 to 2021. The largest increases were from Central America (240,000) and South and East Asia (180,000),” it adds.</p>

<p>Ahead of the general elections slated to be held in 2024, the majority of Indians still show support for PM Modi’s nine-year-old government.</p>

<p>While 79 per cent of Indians held a positive opinion of him, 55 per cent expressed a “very favourable” view.</p>

<p>On the flip side, a mere 20 per cent of Indians said they viewed Modi’s government negatively.</p>

<h2><strong>About India’s geopolitical status</strong></h2>

<p>According to the Pew Research Survey, 68 per cent of Indians believe India’s geopolitical status has risen over the past years. On the other hand, only 19 per cent of Indians think India has witnessed a decline in terms of global prestige.</p>

<p>The study also offers trends regarding how people from different countries view India, especially those from G20 nations.</p>

<p>While the majority of the people view India in a positive light, the survey indicates that India’s favourability has taken a hit in European nations.</p>

<p>When it comes to bilateral relations with India, Israel stood out remarkably. Among all the countries surveyed, a significant 71 per cent of Israeli respondents held a favourable opinion of India, marking the highest percentage.</p>

<p>Likewise, 41 per cent of Indian participants observed an increase in Russia's influence, while 21 per cent believed it had decreased. Of all the public surveyed, Indians are the ones who are most likely to believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin will do the right thing in regard to international affairs.</p>

The report published by Pew Research Center surveyed over 5,500 US workers and came to the conclusion that 58 per cent of men and 61 per cent of women did not ask for higher pay when they were last hired.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Of those who asked for more money, only 28 per cent had a successful strike rate in achieving it while 38 per cent said they were offered less than what they wanted but more than the initial offer. 35 per cent said they were only given what they were presented first.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the upshot of the survey was that women (38 per cent) were more likely than men (31 per cent) to say they were only served the initial offer. Subsequently, men were more likely than women to be satisfied with the pay they were offered — 42 per cent to 36 per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Women also were more likely (42 per cent vs 33 per cent) to say they did not feel comfortable asking for more money from their employers. The younger female employees were even more likely to ask for a raise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report by Pew comes hot on the heels of a Financial Times analysis revealing that almost 80 per cent of employers in the UK pay men more than women on average in their organisation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report painted the grim picture by adding that the percentage figure had worsened since the mandatory gender pay gap reporting began six years ago. The average gap between men's and women's pay stood at 12.2 per cent in 2022-23 which was an uptick from the 11.9 per cent noted in 2017-18.</p>

<p>People in six major religious groups openly asserted they are "free to practice their faith" and that people of other religions are also free to practice their own religion.</p>

<p>The research was conducted in 2019 and early 2020 before the <strong>coronavirus</strong> pandemic. The study found that nearly 97 per cent of Indians believe in<strong> God</strong> and 80 per cent people across religious groups&nbsp;feel that God exists, however, one-third Buddhists said they do not believe in God.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the Pew research found that India’s religious groups share several religious practices and beliefs.</p>

<p>For example, 29 per cent Sikhs, 22 per cent Christian women and 18 per cent Muslim women wear a <strong>bindi&nbsp;</strong>(marking on the forehead of a married woman) although it is a Hindu symbol, with Muslims, Hindus and Christians likely to believe in<strong>&nbsp;Karma.</strong></p>

<p>The study also found that some members of the majority Hindu community celebrate Muslim and Christian <strong>festivals</strong>.</p>

<p>The research further found that 48 per cent of Indian Muslims said that the <strong>Partition </strong>of the subcontinent in 1947 was a bad thing for Hindu-Muslim relations, with 74 per cent Muslims in support of access to existing Islamic courts.</p>

<p>As far as religious identity is concerned, nearly 72 per cent people surveyed said a person cannot be a <strong>Hindu</strong> if they eat beef, while among Muslims 77 per cent said a person cannot be a Muslim if they eat pork.</p>
