Weeks after PCB released seven first-team players and Test coaches in a drastic shakeup after Pakistan conceded the Test series in England, board chairman Mohsin Naqvi is set for a further overhaul. The latest reports suggest that chief selector Aaqib Javed and women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz are likely to be removed from their respective posts. Naqvi, who recently made headlines in the women’s Asia Cup trophy handover saga, has put Javed and Riaz on notice. While Javed could be out sooner rather than later, Riaz will not be associated with the women’s team following the Asian Games in Japan. “Even Mohsin Naqvi has now realised that some radical measures are required to end the losing streak and abrupt happenings in Pakistan cricket. So, these changes are now on the cards,” a source close to the matter revealed, as quoted by PTI. Aaqib has been at the centre of things since assuming his role, and is seen as the central figure behind several significant cricketing decisions over the past two years. However, his most controversial move was the sweeping changes he made midway through the England Test series, sending several players back home with one Test remaining. Javed has also been widely blamed for the uncalled-for turmoil in Pakistan Cricket, with frequent changes in coaching staff and among captains in recent times making headlines. Moreover, the source close to the information also revealed how white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has prompted the decision-makers to remove Javed from his post, as Hesson has shown interest in taking charge of the Test side. Also read| Sent home midway from UK tour, Pakistan's Salman Agha hits 300* in domestic return The source also claimed that PCB will negotiate with a few foreign coaches to take over as the head coach of the women’s team following the Asian Games. “Naqvi will soon hold a high-level meeting with his aides and also take the governing board members into confidence before final decisions are made on the changes,” he said.
Hesson Wants No Interference
Mike Hesson has agreed to take charge of the Test side too, but on a few conditions: he needs time to set things right in the red-ball format. He would only accept the position if he is assured a confirmed timeframe and no interference in his decision-making. Meanwhile, the ball is now in Mohsin Naqvi’s court, who was recently in Dubai for the Women’s Asian Cup final between India and Sri Lanka. As the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, he was supposed to hand over the trophy to India. However, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also the interior minister in Pakistan’s ruling government. As it unfolded during the men’s final last year, a similar episode occurred during the women’s final, where the trophy was not handed over to the winning team, which was India on both occasions.

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir made a bizarre yet surprising guest appearance in PCB boss Mohsin Naqvi’s speech on a U-turn on India game boycott at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. If not for his position as a Field Marshall in the Pakistani army and considering his role in handling the country’s military operations, his mention in a speech directed at playing India in a scheduled T20 World Cup game sounds off; however, Naqvi was clear in doing so, while retaliating how he remains unfazed by any threat from India, BCCI or even ICC. The PCB and the Pakistan government were under tremendous pressure to go back on their words of not taking the field against India in the February 15 showdown in Colombo, and following tensed closed-door discussions, multiple dialogue sittings with several boards, including the ICC, the UAE, the BCB and even SLC, they eventually agreed to play their arch-rivals in the marquee clash later this week. Also read | ICC pressure, dialogues and fear: How Pakistan agreed to play India in Colombo on Feb 15 The ICC also warned the PCB of long-term ramifications of this boycott, shortly after the Pakistan government posted on X, confirming its team’s participation in the 20-team tournament but refusing to play India (showing solidarity with the BCB over their treatment, and eventually exit from the World Cup, on the venue row). Naqvi, an interior minister in the Pakistani government, who also holds several other positions, including chairing the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the PCB, bizarrely mentioned Asim Munir while commenting about not feeling threatened by anyone. “Neither am I intimidated by the threats from India and the ICC, nor is the Government of Pakistan, and as for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, you already know about him; he never gets afraid,” Naqvi said in a bizarre statement, as quoted by The Week.
India-Pakistan gets a green signal
After days of drama, which began with Bangladeshi seamer Mustafizur Rahman's exit from the IPL 2026 early in January, Pakistan would now take on India in the marquee T20 World Cup tie in Colombo. PCB's Mohsin Naqvi bizarrely mentions PAK army chief Asim Munir in T20 World Cup speech

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s three demands that they put forward during the concluded talks between the two board members in an attempt to overturn Pakistan’s boycott of India's game at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Senior PCB officials hosted a three-way meeting on Sunday evening in Lahore, including two ICC representatives and also from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, all working on finding a middle ground over the talked-about India-Pakistan T20 WC game in Colombo on February 15. A Telecom Asia report, also carried by several publications, claims that the PCB utilised this platform and a closed-door meeting with senior ICC officials, including ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, to express their three significant demands, while also echoing their reservations against BCCI’s influence on the ICC, and how it's impacting the cricket ecosystem.
What were PCB’s three demands?
Among all the demands (that the PCB officials kept ahead of the representatives from the apex body), the significant ones include resumption of bilateral ties with India, an increase in the revenue share and ensuring that no handshake episode ever happens again. Also read | No more boycott as India vs Pakistan to go ahead at T20 World Cup – Report The latest reports also suggest that the ICC has indeed planned something surrounding a few of PCB’s passing demands, which included compensation for Bangladesh, a participation fee despite their exit and Pakistan’s hosting rights for future ICC events. “ICC has nothing to offer to Bangladesh as compensation but to ensure it would get a full share from the ICC earnings,” The Dawn report stated. Besides, the Dawn report also claims that Khwaja advised the PCB to either take the matter to ICC’s arbitration committee or raise it at the ICC board meeting, while urging the decision-makers to immediately end the India boycott talks, stressing that the logjam is doing no good to either cricket or its business.
PCB’s growing issues with BCCI’s influence
The Pakistan Cricket Board also raised several issues around BCCI’s growing influence with the ICC, stressing the politicisation of its matters. A PCB insider also claims that Pakistan is unhappy with BCCI’s role in shaping key ICC decisions. The source close to the information also revealed the real reason behind Pakistan’s boycott of India's game at the T20 World Cup, which was ICC’s ‘biased decision’ towards Bangladesh’s exit from the showpiece event. “The government of Pakistan wanted to show solidarity with Bangladesh. Therefore, as a protest, the national team was restricted from playing its match with India scheduled for February 15,” the source added. Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi (PCB), Aminul Islam (BCB), ICC's Imran Khwaja and the Associate Members’ representative, Mubashir Usmani, did not issue a joint statement after the four-hour meeting, with the Pakistan government to take a final call on the India game standoff.
