In what can only be described as a miracle, a newborn baby boy in Gaza was saved from his mother's womb after she died from wounds sustained during an Israeli strike.

The miracle took place at the Al-Awda Hospital where Ola Adnan Harb al-Kurd -- the mother, arrived 'barely alive' after surviving a night of missile strikes that killed more than 24 people, including six members of the same family at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Surgeon Akram Hussein and his team started operating on Kurd instantly but despite their best efforts, could not save her, according to news agency AFP.

However, after an ultrasound detected the baby's heartbeat, the doctors got back to work and performed an emergency C-section to bring the baby into the world.

The infant was in critical condition but stabilised after receiving oxygen and medical attention, according to Raed al-Saudi, head of the hospital's obstetrics and gynaecology department.

The baby was placed in an incubator and later transferred to the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah. Notably, the baby's mother was among three women and a child killed in the Israeli strike. Kurd's husband was also seriously wounded in the strike.

Israel-Hamas war: Newborn saved from dead mother's womb in Gaza

In the early hours of Friday, Houthi forces targeted the heart of Israel, specifically Tel Aviv, killing one person and injuring dozens. This marks the first direct attack on a major Israeli city by the Yemen-based group. The attack did not trigger air raid alarms. The big question now is how Israel failed to respond to this attack. Did the feared Iron Dome fail Israel again? Have the Houthis acquired a new weapon that can bypass Israeli air defenses?

The monastery was well-equipped with infrastructure such as water cisterns, clay ovens, and drainage channels.

Jazer noted that Palestine has asked India, a member of the World Heritage Committee and the host country of the session, for support, adding that "India promised to provide support to the Palestinian step." At least thirteen female hostages including five IDF soldiers have been in Hamas’ captivity since October last year. Mossad Chief David Barnea has cautioned the Israeli Government that the young female hostages, aged 18-39, don’t have time for prolonged negotiations amidst fears of sexual violence against them. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly dismissed any deal with Hamas that could bring back the hostages and instead prioritized military operations over negotiations.

Eight Palestinian athletes taking part in the Paris Olympics will be symbols of "resistance" during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, a Palestinian minister said Sunday as the official delegation left the occupied West Bank.

This will be the eighth time Palestinian athletes have taken part in the Olympics since 1996, but Olympic committee head Jibril Rajoub said the athletes had never felt so much attention.

The athletes are preparing for the start of the Paris Games on July 26 in a "very dark moment in our history", said Palestinian authority minister of state for foreign affairs Varsen Aghabekian Shahin.

"You are not just athletes, you are also ... symbols of Palestinian resistance," Aghabekian added.

French organisers have stepped up security in Paris because of the conflict. But Rajoub said: "We want this participation to be a message from the Palestinians to the world that it is time for them to be free in their homeland."

"Through this participation, we want to present the suffering of the Palestinian people and the unprecedented killing taking place in Gaza," he added.

Rajoub said 400 athletes, coaches and sporting officials in Gaza have been killed or wounded since the start of the war on October 7 when Hamas attacked Israel.

The attacks in southern Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures. Israel's military offensive has killed at least 38,584 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to a toll issued by the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

An Israeli airstrike targeting a Hamas military leader claimed the lives of 90 Palestinians in Al-Mawasi, a designated humanitarian zone in Gaza on Saturday (Jul 13).

Even as the enclave's health ministry reported the casualties wrought during Israel's attack on Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a news conference said that it remains unclear if the commander was killed.

"Either way, we will get to the whole of the leadership of Hamas," he told the news conference.
