He&nbsp;was put&nbsp;under house arrest in 2004 after he admitted his role in running a large scale proliferation network in three countries.&nbsp;

Khan continued to be plagued by health problems as he was detected with prostate cancer in 2006. He was earlier admitted in hospital with coronavirus although he recovered but later developed lung problems.

The US government on Wednesday indicted five men for allegedly running an international racket smuggling US origin goods to&nbsp;Pakistan's nuclear program.

The five men identified as - Haji Wali Muhammad Sheikh, Ashraf Khan Muhammad, Ahmed Waheed, Muhammad Ahsan Wali and &nbsp;Muhammad Kamran Wali - were charged by the US government for violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Control Reform Act.

The men were accused of transporting the goods to Pakistan's Advanced Engineering Research Organization(AERO) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission(PAEC) without licenses through a front company based in Rawalpindi in Pakistan.

Jason Molina, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, said: "The alleged behaviour of these five individuals presented more than a violation of US export laws, it posed a potential threat to the national security interests of the United States and to the delicate balance of power among nations within the region."

The men who haven't been arrested were found guilty by a US jury last year with arrest warrants pending against them. The men are believed to be living in England, Canada, Hong Kong and Pakistan.

“The defendants smuggled US-origin goods to entities that have been designated for years as threats to US national security for their ties to Pakistan’s weapons programs,” John Demers, assistant attorney general for national security, said in a statement, adding, “This indictment puts the world on notice not to do business with these defendants and demonstrates our commitment to holding them accountable.”

India&#39;s new Army chief, Bipin Rawat, asserted that the country will respond strongly to terror activities, forcing Pakistan to rethink its strategy on supporting insurgency and terrorism, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported on Wednesday.

&quot;We will calibrate the response in a manner it hits them hard and compels them to think in the long run whether they need to completely rethink their strategy on supporting insurgency and terrorism in our state,&quot; Rawat, who took over as the 27th chief on December 31, said.

When asked about Indian defence minister Manohar Parrikar&#39;s statement that &quot;the enemy needs to feel the pain, too&quot;, Rawat told PTI that he understands that terrorists should feel &#39;pain&#39; but the response need not be the same.

&quot;While we do agree that we have to retaliate and ensure that the pain is felt by the terrorists and their supporters, the response need not be the same every time,&quot; said the former vice-chief, who was actively involved in the surgical strikes on terror camps across the Line of Control.

He also said that statements like Pakistan&#39;s threat of use of tactical nuclear weapons will not deter India when it comes to defending India&#39;s borders.
