SS Badrinath's Early Life Dr Sengamedu Srinivasa Badrinath was born on 24 February 1940 in Triplicane, Chennai. His father, Sri SV Srinivasa Rao, worked for the Madras Government as an engineer in the Department of Public Works and Food Production. His mother, Lakshmi Devi, was the daughter of a leading advocate from Nerur, Tamil Nadu. Dr Badrinath was the youngest of seven siblings. He lost both his parents when he was a teenager. SS Badrinath's Education Due to a childhood illness, Dr Badrinath started his education when he was seven. He studied at the PS High School in Mylapore and Sri Ramakrishna Mission High School in Chennai. He completed his intermediate collegiate study at Loyola College in Chennai. Dr Badrinath studied at the Madras Medical College between 1957 and 1962. He completed his education using the life insurance policy money obtained after the death of his father. Dr Badrinath secured the highest marks in ophthalmology in the university exams and completed his medical studies on the first attempt. For his post-graduation, he went to the United States of America and attended the Grasslands Hospital, New York University postgraduate medical school and Brooklyn Eye and Ear Infirmary between 1963 and 1968. SS Badrinath's Medical Career In 1969, Dr Badrinath passed the examination for the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Canada. In 1970, he passed the American Board Examination in Ophthalmology. Dr Badrinath started his first job at the Voluntary Health Services in Adyar in the same year. Between 1970 and 1972, Dr Badrinath started his private practice in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgery at the HM Hospital and Vijaya Hospital in Chennai. In 1978, Dr Badrinath founded the Medical Research Foundation. Sankara Nethralaya is the hospital unit of this foundation. In 1999, the Government of India awarded Dr SS Badrinath with Padma Bhushan for building Sankara Nethralaya, a hospital that provided quality care at affordable cost, teaching and training ophthalmologists and paramedical personnel and research in vision sciences. SS Badrinath's Personal Life Dr Badrinath is survived by his wife, Dr Vasanthi Iyer, and their two sons. The two had met in Brooklyn in 1966 and married on 3 June 1967. (With inputs from agencies)

The family of vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar was seated to her left. Indian union ministers including Anurag Thakur were also seated in the same row. As the national anthem played, Akshata stood next to Jaishankar. As per reports, she was not escorted by British security during the ceremony. Akshata Murty's father and Infosys founder, NR Narayana Murthy, brother Rohan Murthy, and Sudha Murthy's sister Dr Sunanda Kulkarni all marked their presence at the magnificent ceremonial Durbar hall.&nbsp;

Sudha Murty has also been actively involved in disaster relief efforts, including providing aid to the victims of earthquake and tsunami.

Three Padma Vibhushan, five Padma Bhushan, and 47 Padma Shri Awards were bestowed by President Murmu. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Sudha Murthy received the Padma Bhushan award for her contributions to society. She is a well-known author, philanthropist, and chairperson&nbsp;of the Infosys&nbsp;Foundation. She has started several initiatives in the areas of women's empowerment, art &amp; culture, healthcare, and education.

"I owe this award to the people of India. I hope my recognition today inspires the younger generation to take up social welfare as a vocation. It is needed for the continuous development of our great nation. I always feel that generosity of a few is hope for a million," she said after she received the award.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Saturday said there is nothing new in Chinese President Xi Jinping&#39;s call to the country&#39;s army to be ready to fight and win wars.

Commenting on this, General Rawat said, &quot;Every army has to prepare for a conflict. That is the task of every army. There is nothing new anybody is saying. I also have to keep preparing. In peacetime, we all train and prepare for any eventuality. So, there is nothing new in that.&quot;

The Army Chief&nbsp;unveiled the statues of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, and Padma Bhushan and Distinguished Service Order (DSO) awardee General Kodendera Subayya Thimayya, at Cauvery College in Karnataka&#39;s Kodagu District.

Recently, President Xi twice instructed the Chinese armed forces to improve their combat capabilities and readiness for war.

On October 27, he urged the country&#39;s army to develop itself into a world-class military by the mid-21st century.

He was addressing military officers after being re-elected as CPC Central Committee General Secretary and Central Military Commission (CMC) Chairman at the 19th National Congress of the CPC.

On Friday, the Xinhua news agency quoted President Xi, as saying that &quot;The CMC should lead the armed forces to be ready to fight and win wars, and to undertake the missions and tasks of the new era entrusted to them by the party and the people.&quot;

His repeated calls for war preparedness left defence experts speculating about its impact on India-China relations, especially after the recent Doklam standoff.

The Doklam standoff started on June 16, 2017, when Chinese troops with construction vehicles and road-building equipment began extending an existing road southward in Doklam, a territory which is claimed by both China as well as Bhutan. Indian troops objected to this advance and saw it as an act of Chinese aggression.

Finally on August 28, both India and China announced that they had disengaged their troops in Doklam.&nbsp;
