Director Hansal Mehta says, "We knew that it wouldn't be a cake walk with the Censor Board given that the film has a fair bit of violence and strong language. We didn't want cuts that would take away the essence of the film, so we had to wait. The Censor Board Chief and members of the revising committee understood how certain scenes could not be removed since they are essential for audiences to understand how a terrorist's mind works. Hence the wait and that's why a decision has been taken to release Omertà on May 4th."

Producer Nahid Khan added, "The team was waiting for CBFC’s clearance for the film. We’re happy to announce May 4th as the release date for Omertà. We know audiences are eagerly awaiting the film's release. It's just a small change of two weeks. We don't mind the delay as long as we have managed to keep the essence of the film intact."

Rajkumar Rao is playing the lead role in the upcoming biographical crime drama film&nbsp;'Omerta' directed by Hansal Mehta. &nbsp;

He is playing a role of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, British terrorist of Pakistani descent. The film explores the 1994 kidnappings of Westerners in India for which Omar was arrested and served a lifetime imprisonment for plotting the murder of Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002. &nbsp;Omerta also stars Rajesh Tailang, Rupinder Nagra, Kewal Arora, and Timothy Ryan Hickernell.

Rajkummar said, &quot;I think it (Omerta) was even more difficult than Trapped. That film was physically taxing but this one mentally shook me up. I was exploring the world which I had no idea about. I was exploring dark roots and secrets about that world and I was very disturbed while shooting for it because I had to play him for that. I had to believe in his ideologies and that was an extremely disturbing process. It is not something I really enjoyed doing.&quot;

Talking about the character, he said, &quot;I could not connect with him at any level. I don&rsquo;t think anyone would agree with his ideologies. There is no way any sane person would connect to him. What these guys do is extremely inhumane. We all strongly condemn them. But yeah I chose to do this and had to start my process by watching those disturbing videos and documentaries. I would listen to his hate speech over and over again, trying to get myself charged up and gather a lot of hatred and anger inside me which I used while playing the part.&quot;

On his exercise of relieving character of Omar Saeed Sheikh and moving on, he said &quot;I was waiting for the role to get over. I remember the moment I shaved off my beard I became a different person. I went out, started travelling, spent time with loved ones and started preparing for the next movie.&quot;

Rajkummar also spoke about the research that went through in preparing for the role. He said,&nbsp;&quot;I could not meet anyone. Of course, he is the deadliest terrorist we have in the world. So, not even remotely&hellip; we could not make an attempt to meet anyone. But there was study material available online, a couple of videos and photos but more than that it was prepping for the character psychologically. To understand why he was doing what he was doing was more important to understand and pick up to perform in the film.&quot;
