Nuno Espirito Santo has been appointed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest, the Premier League club announced Wednesday.

"Nottingham Forest can today confirm the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as first team head coach," said a club statement.

"Nuno joins the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Forest face Bournemouth at The City Ground."

The 49-year-old Portuguese coach succeeds Steve Cooper, sacked by Forest on Tuesday after a dismal run of one win in 13 Premier League games left the club just one place, and five points, above the relegation zone.

Nuno has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad in November.

But he has now returned to English football following a two-year absence since his departure after an ill-fated four-month spell at Tottenham Hotspur which featured a mere 10 Premier League games.

Nuno also had four years in charge of Wolves, guiding the club to promotion from the Championship in his first season in charge.

Wolves enjoyed consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and a run to the Europa League quarter-finals under Nuno's leadership.

Cooper's exit from the City Ground came with Forest having lost five of their past six games.

The 44-year-old Welshman led Forest to promotion to the Premier League in 2022, ending a 23-year absence from the top flight for a club twice crowned champions of Europe under celebrated manager Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980.

Cooper had retained the support of Forest fans after taking them from the bottom of the Championship to Premier League survival last season.

However, three points for the home side was soured by an injury suffered by Timber as he pulled up early in the second half.

By that point the game should have been over as a contest as Arsenal sprang out of the blocks.

Mikel Arteta's men are looking to go one better after finishing second behind treble-winners Manchester City last season.

City cruised to a 3-0 win at Burnley to open the Premier League season on Friday night and Arsenal should have followed suit rather than holding on for the final whistle.

Premier League: Arsenal survive Forest scare to make winning start; Nketiah, Saka score in 2-1 home win

American goalkeeper Matt Turner has joined Nottingham Forest on a permanent transfer from Arsenal on Wednesday.

Turner is leaving the Gunners with a silverware, as he was part of the squad which won the FA Community Shield on Sunday against Manchester City.

Arsenal released an official statement to announce the departure of the 29-year-old goalkeeper. The statement read, "Matt Turner has joined Nottingham Forest in a permanent transfer. The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."

The 29-year-old goalkeeper joined Arsenal from Major League Soccer (MLS) club New England Revolution in June 2022. He went on to make seven appearances in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets from those matches.

Turner has enjoyed success with his national team, he has featured 32 times for USA. His performances have led USA to silverware on two occasions.
