The United States had imposed sanctions against North Korea amid the missile tests even as the Biden administration said it has "no reservations" in opening talks with North Korea.

The talks between former US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un had collapsed in 2019 over the denuclearisation issue as Kim began to boost his&nbsp;country's missile programme.

North Korea maintains its missile test is being undertaken for "self-defence". The country hasn't tested nuclear weapons for the past five years however it has tested ballistic and hypersonic missiles escalating tensions in the Korean peninsula.

However, the North Korean regime had hinted that it may resume nuclear weapons tests amid mounting tensions in the region in the past three weeks since it tested its missile on January 5.

North Korea again fires 'unidentified projectile' into the sea

North Korea's state media claimed on Wednesday that the projectile it had tested earlier this week was a new hypersonic missile.

According to North Korea's state-run channel KCNA, the launch took place in Jagang province on Tuesday. The missile reportedly performed "guiding manoeuvrability" and displayed "navigational control".

The state media reported that the launch met "all technical specifications". The new North Korean missile was identified as Hwasong-8.

The report added that top officials were present during the testing of the new missile,&nbsp;although it is unclear whether Kim Jong-Un witnessed the launch.

Reports on Tuesday had claimed that a projectile was launched into the sea off the east coast. A North Korean official later told the UN General Assembly in New York that the country had the "right to self-defence".&nbsp;
