The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been directed by the Supreme Court to publish the NEET-UG 24 test results on its website city-wise and centre-wise by 12 pm on Saturday without&nbsp;disclosing the candidates' names.&nbsp;On Thursday (July 18), the Supreme Court of India began hearing several petitions concerning the NEET-UG 2024 exam row. The petitions were considered on Thursday by a three-judge bench comprising CJI D Y Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra. 
 
As proceedings began, CJI asked the attorney for the cancellation of the exam to prove if the leak was systemic. He said, "You have to show us that the leak was so systemic and affected the entire examination to warrant the cancellation of the entire exam."

The judges heard over 40 petitions, including pleas filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and several students who appeared for the examination. The NTA seeks a transfer of all the cases against it pending in many High Courts regarding the NEET-UG controversy, PTI reported. 
 
During the hearing, senior advocate Narendra Hooda, representing the petitioner, called for the results of all students to be declared to bring in some transparency. 
 
The NEET-UG exam was held on May 5 and nearly 24 lakh aspiring medical professionals had appeared in it.

The results were published last month but students could only access their individual scores.

The court hearing also addressed the issue of 61 students scoring a perfect 720 out of 720 marks in the examination, even after the scores were adjusted.

The discussion centred on the physics question, alleging that it had two correct answers. The NTA counsel explained that 44 out of these 61 students received marks based on an additional answer found in an older NCERT booklet.

The CJI D Y Chandrachud said, "As the matter stands now, 61 students get 720/720, out of whom 44 are students who got extra marks for the two correct options for a question. So the number really is 17."&nbsp;

"City-wise and center-wise analysis was done for 2 years (2023 and 2024) to find out if there are any abnormal indications. The Analysis is carried out for the Top 1.4 lakh ranks given that the total number of seats across the country is around 1.1 lakhs," it added. "The analysis shows that there is neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localised set of candidates being benefitted leading to abnormal scores," the report said. This increase is seen across the cities and centres. This is attributed to a 25% reduction in syllabus. On Monday (Jul 8), the Supreme Court reviewed multiple petitions concerning the contentious NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam. The petitions included allegations of paper leakage and other malpractices during the May 5 test, with calls for the exam to be conducted anew. The apex court had requested reports from the NTA and the Centre detailing the steps taken as well as any potential ideas on using data analytics in the cyber forensics unit or any other government-employed unit to find suspect cases. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing the alleged irregularities during the UGC-NET examination was allegedly attacked by locals in Bihar’s Nawada.&nbsp;

Soon after, the central investigation agency lodged a police complaint and four people have been arrested since then.

The incident, according to the officials, occurred on Saturday evening (June 22) when a team of CBI visited Kasiadeeh village in the area.

They said that a mob encircled the CBI vehicles and heckled the officers, following which they called the local police station which sent their force.

The police arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the attack and they have been sent to judicial custody, the officials added.

India's National Testing Agency on Wednesday (June 19) announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam just a day after it was conducted.

The Education Ministry released a statement saying that the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination, and the inputs prima-facie indicated that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.

The statement further said that the matter was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough probe.

"To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled," the statement said.&nbsp;

It further said that the exam will be conducted afresh at a date that will be announced later.

Admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant courses at government and private medical universities across the country is determined by the results of the NEET-UG test, which is administered by the NTA.

Earlier on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi over the medical entry exam controversy, claiming that even before Modi took the oath of office for a new term, more than 2.4 million students had been crushed by the alleged "irregularities".

Rahul Gandhi gave students assurances that he would speak for them in Parliament and strongly bring up issues about their future.

The top court said that we cannot overlook the efforts of the children who have prepared for the exams.&nbsp;

"Just imagine a doctor treating who has passed like this and needs to be checked," the top court said.&nbsp;

 
The Supreme Court told the Centre and the NTA to approach challenges regarding NEET-UG as opportunities for improvement, not hostile legal battles. The judges further emphasised the importance of acknowledging and rectifying any errors made during the exam's administration.

The top court further told the NTA, "You are conducting the examination and you must act fair. If there is a mistake, say yes, this is a mistake, and this is the action we are going to take. At least that motivates confidence in your performance."

The Supreme Court is hearing a batch of petitions&nbsp;which allege&nbsp;paper leaks, awarding grace marks and a significant increase in high scorers.&nbsp;

Notably, on June 14, the top court issued notices to the Centre and the NTA on a plea requesting for CBI investigation into the accusation of paper leak.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court's notice came after the Centre informed them about cancelling the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who received grace marks.

"A committee meeting was held on June 10, 11, and 12 to investigate the allegations. Based on the committee's recommendations, the scorecards of the affected candidates will be cancelled, and a re-examination will be held for these students," said the Centre, in a statement.

<h2>SC clarifies counselling process won't be halted</h2>

The Supreme Court reaffirmed its decision not to stop the counselling process for other students who took the NEET-UG 2024 examination.&nbsp;

"Counselling will proceed as scheduled and there will be no interruption. If the exam continues, everything else will proceed as well, so there is no cause for concern," stated the top court.

National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the retest on June 23 and the result will be announced on June 30.

"A committee was set up to review the results of more than 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who received 'grace marks' due to time loss during the exam. The committee has decided to invalidate the scorecards of these candidates, who will now have the option to participate in a re-test,"&nbsp;the Government/NTA informed the Supreme Court.

"The results of the re-test will be declared on June 30; counselling for admission in MBBS, BDS&nbsp;and other courses will start on July 6," the Centre said to the Supreme Court.

"All petitions, including those seeking cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 on account of allegations of malpractices, will be taken up on July 8," the top court stated.

A fresh petition was being heard by the court over the NEET-UG 2024 results which had claimed discrepancies in scores and also alleged that some students were given preferential treatment.

The petition has further appealed that the scores from the May 5 exam be cancelled and a fresh exam is held.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "I want to assure the students and their parents that the Govt of India and NTA are committed to providing justice to them. 24 lakh students have successfully taken the NEET examination. There is no paper leak, no proof has been found yet."&nbsp;
