Ahead of India's seventh match of the ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra hailed 'Men in Blue' and said people in the country want Rohit Sharma's side to win the prestigious tournament.

"Everyone wants India to win the World Cup. All the players are playing well and I don't want to put pressure on them. This World Cup is happening at home so we should win the World Cup," Chopra told reporters.

Neeraj was speaking to the press at an event in New Delhi while addressing the Indian cricket team. He opened up on his diet plans in the event with Optimum Nutrition helping him. Optimum Nutrition will now be working with Neeraj as they join hands for the new partnership. At the event, the CEO of Optimum Nutrition Satyavrat Pendharkar also spoke on how it will help the athletes stay fit for future events.

“We have different kinds of products available for different athletes, depending upon the type of sport they are in. Our goal is to help the athletes with the perfect nutrition that helps them to get ready for the competition. We have products for different mandates like pre-workout, post-workout, and products during the tournament,” added Satyavrat Pendharkar at the event.

India have won all their six ODI matches in the World Cup. The last match against England saw the Indian bowlers rip through their top order to register a memorable win.

India defended 229 runs put on board and bowled out England on 129 in the match played in Lucknow.

The race for a semi-final spot is narrowing down with India on the top of the points table.

England, the defending champions, are at the bottom with one win and five losses in six matches.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra is all geared up for the upcoming challenges in 2024 as he waved goodbye to yet another successful year. The target in 2024 now remains to win the Olympic gold and retain his crown as he prepares for the big year. In an exclusive conversation with WION, Neeraj opened up on the latest challenge as he targets another big year having won gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

<h2>Retaining Olympic gold remains target</h2>

“I am preparing in full flow for the upcoming year as we have different events before we head to Paris for the Olympics. To retain Olympic gold will be the biggest aim in Paris as the nation has been behind. There are plenty of challenges for the upcoming year, however, focusing on the big event will be the primary target. I am aware of the challenges but I vow to give my best shot at the Olympics,” Neeraj said while speaking exclusively to WION’s Aditya Pimpale.

Neeraj had a successful 2023 as he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest while winning silver in the Diamond League. However, his biggest achievement came at the Asian Games when he retained his gold at the continental event.

When asked about his biggest challenge, he was quick to mention his close compatriots. He is likely to face tough competition at the Olympics from Arshad Nadeem, Julian Weber, and Anderson Peters.

“Defending the Olympic crown will be a very big challenge, I am aware of Arshad Nadeem, Julian Weber, and Anderson Peters who will give me a tough fight. Yes, the 90-metre target remains a benchmark for me and I will do my best to reach it before the Olympics. But for the position I am in at the moment, I think I can do it with a little more effort."

“It is great to see some of the young guns competing at the National Games in Goa, where the young crops are thriving. The coming years will be crucial for Indian athletics and I can only see more and more success coming our way in the future,” Neeraj said on the upcoming young guns in Athletics.

Neeraj also spoke on his nutrition and how he has balanced his diet during the season and the off-season. He was full of praise for Optimum Nutrition and CEO Satyavrat Pendharkar while opening up on his nutrition balance.

Having entered the Asian Games as a favourite, Neeraj on Wednesday stood up to the expectations with his golden arm. In his first attempt, Neeraj threw 82.38m while his second attempt saw him yield 84.49m. However, his medal-winning throw came in the fourth attempt when he attempted 88.88m as he continued his purple patch. His third attempt was a foul while he reached 80.80m in his fifth throw.

At the same time, his Indian compatriot Kishore Jena recorded a personal best of 87.54m to win the silver medal. He threw 81.26m in his first throw while his next throws produced 79.76, 86.77, and 87.54 metres respectively.
