I want to join the Indian Navy and that's why I have joined NCC,'' said Kiran Chaudhary, a cadet.</p>

<p>In the last three decades, the training was mostly provided to these cadets at Nagrota and Mansar lake in the Jammu region due to terrorist activities, causing huge inconvenience to the cadets from Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the National Cadet Corps, the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces for their contribution to the country and said that the government has created over 100,000 new cadets in the border areas of the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal to expand the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in 173 border and coastal districts from where one lakh new cadets will be inducted, an official statement said on Sunday.</p>

<p>The expansion of the NCC was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on Saturday.</p>

<p>He said the NCC will be expanded in border and coastal districts so that these areas "get trained manpower for disaster management, and the youth will also get skill training for making their career in the armed forces".</p>

<p>The defence ministry's statement said Singh has approved the NCC proposal "for a major expansion scheme".</p>

<p>"More than 1,000 schools and colleges have been identified in border and coastal districts where NCC will be introduced," it said.</p>

<p>A total of one lakh cadets from 173 border and coastal districts will be inducted into the NCC, it said, adding that one-third of them will be girls.</p>

<p>"As part of the expansion plan, a total of 83 NCC units will be upgraded (Army 53, Navy 20, Air Force 10) to impart NCC training to the cadets in the border and coastal areas," the ministry noted.</p>

<p>The Army will provide training and administrative support to NCC units located in border areas, it said.</p>

<p>The Navy will provide support to NCC units in coastal areas and the Air Force will provide support to those located close to its stations, it added.</p>

<p>The NCC is a youth development movement managed by the armed forces. It also provides exposure to cadets in a wide range of activities, with a distinct emphasis on social services, discipline and adventure training.</p>

<p>It is open to all regular students of schools and colleges on a voluntary basis.</p>

<p>The NCC expansion plan will be implemented in partnership with state governments, the ministry said.</p>

<p>Earlier, the Prime Minister had presented awards to the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/indian-navy-plans-2-day-event-commemorate-surgical-strike-across-loc-167990">best cadets</a>. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, and the three wing-chiefs were also present at the rally. Cadets from Bhutan, Russia, and Nepal participated in the event held today.</p>

<p>"No one can stop a country if its youth has all these values. 65% of Indians are below 35 years of age, making India a young country. It is important that India's thought is young as well," Modi added.</p>

The result was that thousands of innocents died due to terrorism. People were forced to even migrate from there."</p>

<p>"Article 370 was implemented in J&amp;K as a temporary measure. It continued for decades as no one showed enough courage to abrogate it. For vested interests and vote-banks, politicians did not solve this issue for 70 years," he added.</p>

<p>"Can we hand our youth a country that has a problem with terrorism? Absolutely not. Kashmir is our pride and freeing it from problems was our responsibility, and we delivered," he said in connection with the removal of Article 370 which gave Kashmir its special status.</p>

<p>He further implored the people to work together to solve the problems affecting the country. "We will have to work together keeping in mind the challenges of the past, requirements of the present and ambitions for the future," the Prime Minister said.</p>
