Social media has erupted in a row over derogatory comments on Smriti Singh, the widow of Kirti Chakra awardee Captain Anshuman Singh.&nbsp;

The remarks were made on a photograph of Smriti accepting the posthumous award on behalf of her late husband Capt. Anshuman at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The sleazy comment soon caught the attention of netizens and an online uproar started against the man.

Many furious social media users started sharing the screenshot of the remark, demanding action against the man. Later on, more such lewd comments were found on the photograph, resulting in demand for the arrest.

The NCW also said that a man named Ahmad K, a resident of Delhi, made the comment that contravenes Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.&nbsp;

NCW intervened when many people had tagged the commission demanding strict action against the man and others who shared the screenshots of the comment.

Captain Anshuman, serving in the 26 Punjab Regiment, was a medical officer in the Indian Army. He was stationed as a medical officer in Siachen during Operation Meghdoot.

With grief on her face, the young wife of the late officer, with her mother-in-law Manju Singh by her side, remembered her late husband’s words.

Indian Supreme Court on Monday (Feb 19) rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a court-monitored probe by government agencies into the violence in Sandeshkhali village in West Bengal state.&nbsp;

India's top court said that the incident that happened in Sandeshkhali could not be compared to the violence in northern eastern state of Manipur. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih said that the Calcutta High Court is already seized of the matter.&nbsp;

The bench said: "The local high court will be the best to assess the situation. Let there be no dual forums." The bench also granted the PIL petitioner the liberty to approach the high court.&nbsp;

This development comes amid reports that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari apparently said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the region.&nbsp;

As per reports, Adhikari was granted permission by the Calcutta High Court to visit Sandehkhali. He is expected to visit the gram panchayat in Sandeshkhali Block-II on Tuesday, as directed by Justice Kaushik Chanda.&nbsp;

In a letter to DGP OP Singh, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said,&nbsp;"The Commission is disturbed by the rise in the crime against women in the state despite the enactment of several laws to safeguard the rights of women."

The Commission also requested the police officer to send a detailed action taken report in the Unnao matter and urged him to take strict action against the erring officials for not providing protection to the rape victim, if found guilty.

Moreover, the Commission sought a detailed report regarding the number of reported heinous crimes committed against women and bail granted in such cases in Uttar Pradesh in the last three years, at the earliest.

A rape survivor was set ablaze in the Bihar area of Uttar Pradesh's Unnao on Thursday morning. The victim has been referred to Lucknow, said Vikrant Vir, Superintendent of Police, Unnao.

Taking cognizance of the matter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a statement, said that the treatment of the victim will be carried out on government expenses and strict action will be taken against the accused.&nbsp;
