Donald Trump seems to have found an ally in his ex-wife Marla Maples. In an interview with The Evening Standard, Marla said that she is open to helping Trump's campaign for the presidential race and wouldn't mind becoming his vice president.

“I want to step out more, share more and not be afraid of positive or negative outcomes that come from speaking out,”&nbsp;she&nbsp;said.&nbsp;

Marla is also not affected by Trump's legal troubles. When asked about the lawsuit filed by writer Jean E. Carroll alleging him of raping her, Marla said that she believes her ex-husband is innocent. Notably, Trump has been found liable by a Manhattan federal jury of sex abuse&nbsp;and&nbsp;defamation in the case.&nbsp;

“I do know my daughter’s father well enough to know that he’s never had to push himself on another person. He’s always had women throw themselves on him instead. I don’t believe there was a crime done," she told the paper.&nbsp;

She also brushed aside the hush money verdict against Trump linked to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump has been convicted of felony crimes in the case and was found guilty of all 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election by paying $130,000 to Daniels to hide the accusation that he had sex with Daniels. The verdict is under appeal.&nbsp;

Marla says there are bigger matters that should be dealt with first.

“They love these little sexy stories. We have a country that is failing. Our cities are not protected. How do we make people feel safe again? That’s more important than having these lawsuits that are not affecting any of us today," she said.

Notably, Trump is expected to announce his vice president in the coming days and Marla is reported to be interested in the job.&nbsp;

“I’m open. I’m open to whatever way that I can serve. Right now everyone [in the Trump family] is just seeing how we can help,”&nbsp;she&nbsp;added.

However, when Trump was shown a photograph of himself with Carroll and others at a reception in the 1990s. Trump replied, "That's Marla, that's my wife," before being corrected by his lawyer.&nbsp;

Initially, E. Jean Carroll had not gone public with the allegations of the incident. But in 2019, she divulged the details in her book. In October last year, Trump took to social media to call her story "a hoax and a lie" and her book "a complete scam." A month later, after a New York law designed to protect sexual assault victims decades after the crime took place came into effect, Carroll expanded her case by suing him for assault, the AFP report added.

In October last year, the court had taken depositions from both parties in the defamation case and the trial would now open on April 10. The report pointed out that Trump could be protected in the case as he made the initial statements against Carroll while he was serving as President.&nbsp;
