Nifty was recorded at 10,969.95 in the first few minutes of the opening morning trade on Tuesday. Nifty50 was at 10,943.35, 24.05 points or 0.22 per cent lower.

On a net basis, foreign funds sold shares worth Rs 523.94 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought shares to the tune of Rs 1,527.67 crore Monday, provisional data showed.

Markets open in red, Sensex tumbles by over 50 points 

Continuing its uptrend, the rupee firmed by another 53 paise to trade at over a two-week high of 71.84 against the US dollar in early trade Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, the dollar's weakness against some currencies overseas on easing trade war concerns and a higher opening of the domestic equity market supported the rupee, forex dealers said.

On Wednesday, the rupee had gained 61 paise, notching up its best single-day gain since March 2017 to close at 72.37 against the US currency supported by heavy dollar selling by banks and weakness in the greenback in global markets.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered by 231.40 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 37,352.62 in morning trade.

The stock market was shut Thursday on account of Muharram.

The Sensex had lost 969.42 points in the previous three sessions.

The NSE Nifty went past 11,300 to trade at 11,318.50, gaining 84.15, or 0.75 per cent.

Sectoral indices, including metal, oil and gas, PSU, power, infrastructure, healthcare, consumer durables, FMCG, capital goods, auto and banking stocks, rose up to 1.62 per cent.

Brokers said continued pumping of funds by DIIs and a firming trend at over Asian bourses, tracking recoveries in the US and Europe as fears of a political crisis in Italy abated, spurred fresh round of buying on the domestic bourses.

The 30-share index, which had lost 216.24 points in the previous session, drifted down by 214.13 points, or 0.61 per cent, to 34,735.11.

The NSE Nifty cracked below the 10,600-mark by falling 69.45 points, or 0.65 per cent, to 10,563.85.

All sectoral indices led by bank, oil & gas and capital goods were in the negative zone, slipping up to 1.02 per cent.

Brokers said sustained foreign funds outflows, weak trend at other Asian markets and overnight losses at the Wall Street, rattled by renewed concerns of a possible China-US trade war and political uncertainty in Italy, mainly triggered selling here.

Major losers included Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports, Yes Bank, Dr Reddy's and HDFC Ltd, falling by up to 1.92 per cent.

Markets end lower for 2nd day; Sensex closes at 34,906.11

The benchmark BSE Sensex reclaimed the 35,000-mark by surging over 150 points in early trade today on easing geopolitical concerns and a sharp correction in global crude prices.

An appreciating rupee, encouraging earnings by some more companies and easing concerns over US-North Korea summit too boosted investor sentiment.

The 30-share index, which had gained 579.96 points in the previous two sessions, added 156.67 points, or 0.44 per cent, at 35,081.54.

The rupee strengthened by 39 paise to 67.39 against the dollar at the interbank forex market in early trade today.

Counters such as oil and gas, PSU, healthcare, realty, infrastructure, metal and banking were trading in the positive territory.

The NSE Nifty too edged up by 53.70 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 10,658.85.

Sun Pharma shares rose 4.66 per cent to Rs 488.30 after the drug maker on Friday posted 6.96 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 1,308.96 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2018.

Other major gainers that supported the indices were Yes Bank, SBI, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Coal India, ONGC, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paint, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy's, Bajaj Auto and ITC, rising by up to 1.59 per cent.

Traders said building of fresh long positions amid continued buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and Brent crude falling by 1.88 per cent to USD 75 per barrel in global markets, kept the bullish sentiment intact.

The BSE Sensex rose over 187 points in early trade today, extending yesterday's rally on robust buying in IT, energy and banking stocks amid unabated purchases by domestic institutional investors.

Asian shares were mixed after US President Donald Trump cancelled a planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The 30-share index jumped 187.14 points, or 0.54 per cent, to 34,850.25 with sectoral indices led by IT, teck, power, realty, infrastructure, capital goods, banking and auto trading in the positive zone, rising up to 1.38 per cent.

The gauge had gained 318.20 points in the previous session.

The NSE Nifty too climbed 48.70 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 10,562.55.

Major gainers were TCS, Infosys, Tata Steel, NTPC, HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, M&M, HDFC Ltd, Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, Dr Reddy's, RIL and Maruti Suzuki, rising up to 1.83 per cent.

Sensex builds on gains, up 187 points in early trade

The BSE Sensex rebounded about 153 points in opening trade today on fresh buying in IT, teck, capital goods and healthcare counters amid mixed overseas cues.

Buying by domestic institutional investors and strengthening rupee also supported the recovery, brokers said.

Asian stocks traded mixed amid caution over US-China trade relations.

US stocks closed higher yesterday after minutes from the Federal Reserve's meeting reassured investors that the central bank will not be too aggressive with raising interest rates.

The 30-share Sensex rose 152.81 points, or 0.44 per cent, to 34,497.72, with sectoral indices IT, teck, capital goods, healthcare, power, consumer durables, bankex and realty advancing by up to 1.77 per cent.

The gauge had lost 306.33 points in the previous session.

The NSE Nifty also moved up by 38.15 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 10,468.50.

Major gainers were Infosys, Tata Steel, TCS, HDFC Ltd, Bharti Airtel, Coal India, Sun Pharma, Wipro, Yes Bank, Power Grid, Axis Bank and RIL, gaining up to 2.38 per cent

State-run lender SBI also extended its gaining streak for the third straight session, inching up 0.32 per cent to Rs 264.05.

However, Tata Motors plunged 4.41 per cent after the company yesterday reported a 49.82 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 2,176.16 crore for the March quarter with its British arm JLR continuing to face challenges in the UK and

Europe, in addition to one time impairment charge.

Stocks weathered yet another choppy session today to end with modest gains as participants chose to book profits amid elevated global crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties.

ICICI Bank was the star performer in today's session, comfortably topping the gainers' list by surging nearly 7 per cent.

The private sector lender on Monday reported a 45 per cent drop in March quarter net profit following a spike in bad loans due to changes in asset classification norms.

However, investors took heart from the management's commentary that the bulk of the bad loans problem is behind it and the focus now shifts to recoveries and resolution, brokers said.&nbsp

Global crude oil prices hovered above the USD 75 per barrel mark on uncertainties over the US re-imposing sanctions on Iran, fanning fears of a supply disruption.

The 30-share Sensex opened positive and advanced to the session's high of 35,388.87. However, profit-booking by investors ahead of Karnataka elections this week trimmed the gains, with the gauge sinking to the day's low of 35,136.01.

It finally settled 8.18 points or 0.02 per cent higher at 35,216.32. 
 
The NSE Nifty, after hitting a high of 10,758.55, closed at 10,717.80, up just 2.30 points, or 0.02 per cent. It touched a low of 10,689.40 intra-day.

Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares worth Rs 1,037.23 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold equities worth Rs 635.24 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.

"Market turned volatile as investors are concerned on the movement of rupee and surge in oil price which could eventually lead to tight monetary policy.&nbsp

"Albeit, banks outperformed as sentiment improved on account of early recognition of stressed assets. Continued outflow of foreign money will keep rupee on tenterhook while increasing GST collection and RBIs open market operation may soften the volatility," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.

In the Sensex pack, ICICI Bank emerged on top with a rise of 6.86 per cent, followed by SBI 1.42 per cent and Axis Bank 1.18 per cent.

The BSE benchmark Sensex opened higher at 34,983.59 and hovered in a range of 35,259.81 to 34,977.74 before finishing at 35,208.14, showing a gain of 292.76 points or 0.84 per cent.&nbsp

This is its highest closing since February 1, 2018, when it had finished at 35,906.66.

The gauge had lost 261.04 points in the previous two sessions.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also gained 97.25 points, or 0.92 per cent, to 10,715.50 after shuttling between 10,725.65 and 10,635.65.

Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors bought shares worth a net Rs 1,084.09 crore, while foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth Rs 1,628.23 crore on Friday, provisional data showed.

Sensex falls over 100 points on weak global cues

The 30-share index, after opening 80.89 points higher, turned negative on profit-booking at current levels to quote 86.59 points, or 0.22 per cent, lower at 35,089.83. 
 
The gauge had rallied 675.15 points in the previous four sessions. 
 
The 50-share NSE Nifty also turned negative and shed 27.80 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 10,690.25 after a positive opening. 
 
The laggards were Wipro, HUL, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy's, Yes Bank, L&T, Coal India, HDFC Bank, M&M, Power Grid, RIL and Tata Steel, falling up to 1.43 per cent. 
 
Top gainers included Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, Yes Bank, SBI and ONGC, rising up to 2 per cent. 
 
Brokers said, market participants booked profits tracking a weak trend in other Asian bourses, following overnight losses on the Wall Street after the US Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1.5 per cent to 1.75 per cent.

The Sensex rallied about 180 points to 34,893.20 in early session today, maintaining its positive form for the second straight day as the May derivatives series took off on a strong footing amid encouraging earnings and positive Asian cues.

Unabated buying by domestic institutional fulled the uptrend, brokers said.

The 30-share Sensex, which gained 212.33 points in the previous session, added 179.60 points, or 0.51 per cent, at 34,893.20.

All sectoral indices of BSE led by realty, banking and metal were in the positive zone, rising by up to 1.07 per cent.

The NSE Nifty jumped 60 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 10,677.80.

Shares of Reliance Industries and Maruti Suzuki were higher by 2.66 per cent and 1.28 per cent ahead of earnings, to be announced later in the day.

Other gainers include Axis Bank, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Adani Bank, Tata Steel, L&T, Tata Motors, SBI, Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Auto, rising up to 3.66 per cent.

Brokers said investors were busy in creating new positions following the beginning of the May futures and options (F&O) series that led to the rally in the market.

Moreover, encouraging quarterly corporate earnings so far and data showing that domestic institutional investors continued their buying activity, buoyed sentiment.

A firming trend in the rest of Asia following overnight positive leads from the Wall Street on solid earnings and a rebound in technology stocks as the US bond yields pulled back, accelerated buying activity, they added.

The NSE Nifty was also trading higher by 32.70 points, or 0.30 per cent, at 10,586.90.

Brokers said sustained buying by domestic institutional investors and a mixed trend at other Asian bourses, tracking overnight gains at Wall Street, mainly influenced sentiment here.

Major gainers were M&M, TCS, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Yes Bank, RIL, HUL, Infosys, HDFC Bank, SBI, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Auto, Power Grids and Dr Reddy's, with gains of up to 0.98 per cent.

However, Wipro, tumbled 3.62 per cent to Rs 276.80 after the company yesterday reported over 20 per cent decline in its consolidated profit to Rs 1,800.8 crore for the March quarter, 2017-18.

The country's third-largest software services firm had registered a profit of Rs 2,267 crore in the year-ago period, as per Indian accounting norms.

Nifty ends above 10,550, up 20 points

The rupee strengthened by 10 paise to 64.91 against the US dollar at the interbank forex market today on sustained selling of the greenback by exporters and banks amid foreign capital inflows.

Dealers said dollar's weakness against a basket of currencies supported the domestic unit.

On Friday, the rupee had gained 10 paise to end at 65.01 against the US currency which suffered losses in global markets on intensifying trade war worries.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fall by 60.10 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 32,536.44 in opening trade today.

According to the provisional exchange data, foreign investors bought shares worth Rs 1,628.19 crore on a net basis on Friday.

News that Rex Tillerson had been sacked rattled US equities, which had been buoyed earlier Tuesday by a soft inflation report that tempered talk of a sharp rise in interest rates.

The former oilman had been seen as taking a more pragmatic line on various issues, particularly on global trade and the Iran nuclear agreement.

He will be replaced by CIA chief Mike Pompeo, who is an advocate of taking a hardline with China on trade and Iran.

Adding to the unease on trading floors were reports Trump is considering hitting China over alleged intellectual property theft, with an announcement on tech sector tariffs said to be lined up for as soon as next week.

&quot;The significance of a shift to a global trade and foreign policy hawk with the US on course for a trade showdown with China and diplomatic negotiations with North Korea, is very significant suggesting the US is readying for hardball negotiations,&quot; said Stephen Innes, head of Asia-Pacific trading at OANDA.

The move, which had been expected in some quarters, comes after Trump&#39;s pro-markets top economics advisor stepped down this month over controversial metals tariffs.

Tillerson marks the latest in a string of senior members of the administration to resign in 14 tumultuous months and reinforces a sense of uncertainty on Pennsylvania Avenue.

All three main US markets ended lower and Asia followed suit.

The news overshadowed data showing US inflation eased in February from January, which helped to wind back concerns that the improving economy was pushing the Fed to lift borrowing costs four times this year rather than the three earlier thought.

Those figures, combined with the Tillerson sacking, sent the dollar lower against the yen and pound, with sterling also getting support from improving British economic forecasts.

And on Wednesday traders continued to sell the greenback against all its major peers as well as most high-yielding currencies.

Brokers said apart from profit-booking at record levels by participants, a weak trend at other Asian markets following overnight losses at Wall Street hurt the trading sentiment.

The wider NSE Nifty too receded from its record closing and dipped below the 11,100-level by losing 64.20 points, or 0.58 per cent to 11,066.20. It had closed at the life time high of 11,130.40 points yesterday.

Asian Paint, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Coal India, Wipro, Dr Reddy&#39;s, Tata Steel, L&amp;T, Power Grid, TCS and Kotak Bank were major losers that dragged both the key indices down from their record highs.

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth a net of Rs 291.86 crore, while domestic institutional investors made purchases to the tune of Rs 90.08 yesterday, provisional data showed.

Brokers said apart from profit-booking at record levels by participants, a weak trend at other Asian markets following overnight losses at Wall Street hurt the trading sentiment. The wider NSE Nifty too receded from its record closing and dipped below the 11,100-level by losing 64.20 points, or 0.58 per cent to 11,066.20. It had closed at the life time high of 11,130.40 points yesterday. Asian Paint, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Coal India, Wipro, Dr Reddy's, Tata Steel, L&T, Power Grid, TCS and Kotak Bank were major losers that dragged both the key indices down from their record highs. Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth a net of Rs 291.86 crore, while domestic institutional investors made purchases to the tune of Rs 90.08 yesterday, provisional data showed. Most Asian markets were lower in their opening trade. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.30 per cent, Japan's Nikkei shed 0.64 per cent and Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.41 per cent. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.67 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
