India is set to witness a high-voltage monsoon session of Parliament as the government and opposition prepare for a major political showdown. Ahead of the session, the government convened an all-party meeting to discuss the legislative agenda, but the meeting witnessed tension after opposition parties staged a symbolic walkout. These MPs are part of a panel to help the pro-tem speaker perform his duties. As per reports, INDIA bloc MPs are irked by the appointment of BJP leader and seven-term member Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu. The president allegedly overlooked the eight-time Congress MP K Suresh's candidacy.

The president had suggested the names of five senior members to assist Mahtab, namely K Suresh (Congress), T R Baalu (DMK), Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste (both BJP) and Sudip Bandyopadhyay (TMC). But all of the opposition MPs on this panel will now not perform their duties.

Additionally, all INDIA bloc MPs will assemble at the famous Gandhi Statue in Parliament today (June 24) at 10:45 am ahead of the start of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. The debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address is anticipated to feature an assertive opposition aiming to challenge the NDA government on various issues. The prime minister will respond to this debate in both Houses of Parliament.

The complete Union Budget is expected to be presented on July 22.&nbsp;

Earlier, on February 1, an interim Budget was presented ahead of the Lok Sabha elections that&nbsp;concluded recently.

It may be noted here that&nbsp;Lok Sabha had 274 sittings in which 202 bills were introduced and a total of 222 bills were passed.&nbsp;

The Rajya Sabha had 271 sittings, in which 31 bills were introduced and 220 bills were passed. In total 221 bills were passed by both the Houses.
