More than 8,000 candidates were in the fray for 542 seats across the nation. Over 67&nbsp;per cent of the 90.99 crore electors had cast their vote in the seven-phase elections.

It is suggested that the counting of votes and the announcement of results may get delayed due to tallying of voter-verified paper audit trail slips with EVM count. The exercise will take place for the first time.

The exercise will take place in five polling stations per assembly segment which effectively means that out of nearly 10.3 lakh polling stations, the EVM-VVPAT matching will take place in 20600 such stations, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

What happens in case of a mismatch?

In such a situation, the results based on paper slip count will be considered as final.

The entire exercise of EVM-Paper trail machine matching will take an additional four to five hours.

With the final phase of polling of the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections coming to an end on May 19, exit polls predicted a thumping win for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Lok Sabha polls.&nbsp;

The party, along with its allies, is predicted to sweep a lion's share of the Hindi heartland of the nation including states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar as well as the national capital.&nbsp;

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-general-elections-2019/lok-sabha-election-result-2019-bjp-leaders-react-to-landslide-win-of-pm-narendra-modi-220885">BJP will perform better in 2019 Lok Sabha elections</a> in comparison to 2014 polls.

"I have repeatedly said that 2019 results will be better than 2014. Now as you are seeing trends, I am leading. You have also seen exit polls. People are appreciating that Narendra Modi-government served people honestly," Harsh Vardhan told ANI.

The Union Minister is seeking re-election from Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency in Delhi where he is leading by a margin of over 14,000 votes.

He is pitted against Congress heavyweight and former union minister Jai Prakash Agarwal from Chandhi Chowk.

When asked to comment on Congress president Rahul Gandhi trailing in Amethi, Harsh Vardhan said, "In 1977, I had campaigned in Rae Bareli and Amethi. I have seen people defeating Late Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. That's why I am not surprised if I get to see the same result in Rae Bareli and Amethi in this election there."

The Union Minister said that Congress' negative politics would lead to their defeat in the ongoing elections.

"Congress who worked for independence is now indulged in negative politics. They do not have any program. Congress is a synonym of corruption. Ten years of UPA rule was famous for scams," he said.

Visibly happy at the trends so far, Vivek spoke of the work put in to make the film that had him researching for the role, understanding the temperament of the most powerful Indian at the moment and following Modi’s politics.&nbsp;

Vivek said, “They can’t stop me or Modi Ji. Tomorrow when people will celebrate Modiji’s victory, our film will release and they will know his story.”

On why he chose to work on the film, Vivek said, “I think it’s an incredible journey. Let's take a time machine and travel to the 1950’s- 60’s Vadnagar station where a kid serves tea in clay cups. Can you imagine meeting this kid and saying that he will become the prime minister?”

He further said, “It was fascinating for me, I have seen his journey from Gujarat chief minister to the prime minister. I have believed in his politics. I connect him on a political level. Before starting on the film when I researched his life, I met his neighbours, I found out that his mother who loved him a lot had to wash other people’s utensils. Coming from that, Modiji still never chased money. Dhandho should have been in his blood but still, he never chased money. Philanthropy is done on a full stomach bere was a man who came from nothing and yet always gave everything to the nation. I wish that our film inspires people to see that.”&nbsp;
