Berlin's international film festival will next year present Scottish actress Tilda Swinton with a lifetime achievement award, organisers said Friday.

The decision to give Swinton the Honorary Golden Bear prize was taken in recognition of her "breathtaking" range and status as "one of our modern filmmaking idols", Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle said in a statement.

"To cinema she brings so much humanity, compassion, intelligence, humour and style, and she expands our ideas of the world through her work," Tuttle said.&nbsp;

The award will be presented at the festival's opening ceremony in the German capital on February 13.

The Berlinale, running February 13-23, ranks along with Cannes and Venice among Europe's top film festivals.

The 2025 edition of the festival will open with the premiere of "Das Licht" ("The Light") by German director Tom Tykwer.

Swinton said in the statement from the Berlinale that "to be honoured in this way by this particular festival is deeply touching for me".

She recalled that the Berlinale was "the first film festival I ever went to, in 1986 with Derek Jarman and the first film I made, his&nbsp;Caravaggio".

"It was my portal into the world in which I have made my life's work -- the world of international filmmaking -- and I have never forgotten the debt I owe it," she said.

Born in London in 1960, Swinton's early career was marked by appearances in European arthouse movies, appearing in several works directed by the late British filmmaker Derek Jarman.

She rose to international prominence in 1992 when she starred in Sally Potter's Oscar-nominated "Orlando".

Swinton won an Oscar in 2007 for her role in "Michael Clayton" and has starred in no fewer than 26 films at the Berlinale over the course of her long and illustrious career.&nbsp;

This year Swinton starred in the first feature film in English by acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, "The Room Next Door".

A meditation on death and friendship set in New England, Swinton plays a war correspondent suffering from terminal cancer.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the Pardo Alla Carriera award at the Locarno Film Festival 2024 on Saturday evening (Aug 10). Dressed in an all-black ensemble, the actor gave an impactful acceptance speech while accepting the award. Videos of the same have&nbsp;gone viral online.

SRK started by saying that the trophy was "very heavy" and kept it aside. He then went on to thank the audience for their warm welcome. "I want to thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms, wider than the ones I do on screen in this really pretty, very beautiful, very cultural, very artistic, and extremely hot city of Locarno," SRK said.

He continued, "So many people stuffed up in a little square and so hot, it's just like being home in India. So thank you so much for having me here. It's been a wonderful last two evenings."

During the speech, a fan shouted "I love you", to which SRK replied, "I love you also. All dramatics continue after the serious speech. It's the Locarno Film Festival, we all need to sound intellectual, ok?"

Quizzed by the presenter about his greatest moment in the field as a cricketer, broadcaster and coach, Shastri gave an emotionally charged response reminiscing several of his treasured&nbsp;memories.&nbsp; &nbsp;

"It is a special evening for me. I think picking one would be difficult. But I will just go very quickly. You showed one that the 1985 final vs Pakistan was special in Melbourne. 1983 when India won the World Cup," said Shastri.&nbsp;

"But in commentary, 2007 when they won the T20 World Cup and 2011 when MS hit that ball for six. Two back-to-back wins in Australia. But the icing on the cake was the last day at the Gabba when Rishabh Pant took us past the finishing line," he added.

‘That last day at Gabba’: Ravi Shastri’s emotional response after receiving BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award

Director Euzhan Palcy made a rocking return as she was honoured with an Oscar for lifetime achievement at the Academy’s Governors awards this year. The first Black woman to direct a film for a major Hollywood studio, Euzhan made her inroads after she was introduced by Viola Davis and was praised by Ava DuVernay.&nbsp;

Euzhan’s breakthrough film was ‘Sugar Cane Alley’, about field workers in colonial Martinique. She became the first Black and first female director to win a Silver Lion at the Venice film festival (in 1983) and the first to win a César award, France’s Oscar.

‘A Dry White Season’ was her second big feature, a drama set in South Africa during apartheid, showing the radicalisation of a suburban white father after he starts to seek justice for his Black gardener and his son. It was the first film directed by a Black woman funded by a major Hollywood studio, and when he got out of prison Nelson Mandela asked to meet with her.

Accepting the award, she said, “Black and female is bankable. I was so tired of being told I was a pioneer. I was so tired of hearing praise for being the first of too many firsts.”

The 13th annual Governors awards took place last weekend and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences took this opportunity to honour someone who had contributed a lot to the entertainment industry.

This year’s lifetime award winners included songwriter Diane Warren, who had been an Academy Award nominee for best original song 13 times since 1987 for songs such as ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’, and ‘I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing’, but never took home the Oscar, and Australian director Peter Weir, who directed ‘Witness’, ‘Dead Poets Society’, ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World’.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, ‘Back to the Future’ star Michael J Fox received a humanitarian award for his decades of advocacy and fundraising for research into Parkinson’s disease.

The first Black woman to direct a film for a major Hollywood studio, Euzhan made her inroads after she was introduced by Viola Davis and was praised by Ava DuVernay. Veteran actor Anupam Kher will be given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honour at the upcoming International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony in Bangkok.&nbsp;

The 63-year-old actor will be honoured for his contribution in the field of cinema. He has worked in over 500 films that range from projects in India and abroad. Kher has been working in the space of entertainment for over three decades now.&nbsp;

As he was informed of the award, Kher said he is grateful for the award and for being recognised for his work. He said that it will act as an encouragement to keep working in the industry for another 34 years of his life. Kher said, “Thank you IIFA for acknowledging my achievements in Cinema. I am privileged to be a part of our film industry, which has been so generous in the showing of love and warmth upon me.”

His statement continued: “My 34 years of work has helped me achieve great milestones and at a time when actors my age are offered the Lifetime Achievement Award, I prefer to ride on another 34 years exploring new and exciting opportunities in Indian and international Cinema. I am humbled and happy to be the recipient of this award instituted by IIFA.”

He added, “With every such award comes a sense of responsibility which I promise to be committed to, in our industry and also, as a representative of our country in the international arena.”

Kher will be presented with the honour on June 24 at the 19th edition of IIFA.
