The 22nd Governor of Madhya Pradesh Lalji Tandon passed away after a prolonged illness on Tuesday (July 21) at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow.&nbsp;

Tandon was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow with breathing problems and fever. He was put on critical care ventilator support few days ago, PTI reporterd.

Tandon's son Ashutosh Tandon announced the demise of his father on Twitter. "Babuji is no more," Lalji Tandon tweeted.&nbsp;

Earlier, Medical Director of Medanta Hospital said that the condition of Tandon, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital here is "now stable and still on critical care ventilator".

Tandon was a senior member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a close confidant of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passes away at 85

Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh got a breather today when the assembly was adjourned till March 26th without the trust vote after a one-minute address by Governor Lalji Tandon. The Opposition party BJP, which is confident of overthrowing the ruling Congress, has approached the Supreme Court.&nbsp;

In his address, Governor Lalji Tandon appealed to Members: "All must follow the rules under the Constitution so that dignity of Madhya Pradesh remains protected".

After completing his address, Tandon left the Assembly shortly after the proceedings began.

Following this, the House was adjourned till March 26.

BJP leaders raised slogans against the incumbent government in the Assembly.

In the Assembly former chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the current Congress government lacks majority while Finance Minister in the state government, Tarun Bhanot demanded that all missing Congress MLAs should be brought back to the Assembly.

BJP had demanded a floor test, to decide the fate of the Kamal Nath led Congress government to be held today, the Congress leaders have stated that all their MLAs need to be present in the house for the test.

Prior to the proceedings, the Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Gopal Bhargav had said that Chief Minister Kamal Nath should tender his resignation on moral grounds as his government lacks the majority.

"The state government is running away from facing the floor test but it cannot be saved from collapsing as a good number of MLAs are against it. Government has been defeated morally and the Chief Minister should resign on moral ground," Bhargav told.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly adjourned till March 26th in view of coronavirus

A BJP delegation met Governor Lalji Tandon on Saturday requesting him to conduct a floor test in the assembly.

BJP leaders Gopal Bhargava, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Narottam Mishra, and Bhupendra Singh were part of the delegation that met the governor.

22 Congress MLAs, including six ministers, have tendered their resignation from the Legislative Assembly on March 10.

BJP delegation meets MP Governor, requests floor test

Anandiben Patel will take oath as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh here on July 29, officials said on Saturday.

As per an official statement, Patel will reach Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow on July 29 at 9:30 am. She will take oath as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh at 12:30 pm in Raj Bhawan.

On July 20, President Ram Nath Kovind had appointed Patel, who was serving as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, as the replacement for outgoing Governor Ram Naik.

Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon was transferred to Madhya Pradesh in place of Patel.

The President had also approved the appointments of former Union Ministers Jagdeep Dhankhar and Ramesh Bais as Governors of West Bengal and Tripura, respectively.

Dhankhar was appointed in place of Kesari Nath Tripathi as Governor of West Bengal.
