La Liga leaders Barcelona stumbled 1-0 at home against Leganes on Sunday as they suffered another blow in the Spanish title race. Atletico Madrid pulled level on points with the Catalans with a 1-0 victory of their own against Getafe earlier on, their 11th straight win across all competitions. Leganes defender Sergio Gonzalez headed home from a corner after four minutes for the visiting minnows and Barcelona missed a host of presentable chances as they failed to mount a comeback.

After a superb start to the season, Barcelona have lost three of their last six league games and won just one of those, seeing their lead whittled away. Hansi Flick's side lead third-place Real Madrid by a single point, after the champions drew at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, having played one extra game than both their closest title rivals.

"It was a messed-up game, it's impossible to be happy. I think we started the game half asleep," Pedri told DAZN. "We woke up, we created chances but we didn't have the spark we needed to get the goal... "We have to be better in front of goal if we want to win points, we're in a bad run in the league and we have to turn it around."

Barcelona started in the worst possible way as their former youth player Munir El Haddadi broke in down the right and forced a fine save from Inaki Pena at his near post. From the resulting corner Leganes took the lead, with Sergio Gonzalez powering a header home to stun the Olympic stadium into silence. From there Barcelona dominated against the visitors, 15th, and created several chances but found an inspired Marko Dmitrovic in their way.

Alexander Sorloth earned Atletico Madrid an 11th straight victory with his goal sealing a 1-0 win over Getafe on Sunday in La Liga.
Diego Simeone's side have been in fine form and continued their winning run across all competitions with a deserved home triumph, pulling provisionally level with league leaders Barcelona.
Norwegian target man Sorloth came off the bench to head home the winner in the second half for his seventh league goal this season.

Atletico, second, lead rivals Real Madrid by a point after Los Blancos drew at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, while Barcelona host Leganes later Sunday.
"I'll repeat it, I'm boring, I won't change -- until the last day, we'll go game by game," Simeone told reporters when asked if his team could challenge for the title.
"I always say the best result is 1-0 because you work hard in defence and you're effective in attack, if you win 4-3 there are things you have to improve."
Atletico Madrid controlled the first half but could not put away the chances they created.
Two of the most inviting fell to winger Samuel Lino, but he failed to convert on both occasions.
Giuliano Simeone crossed for the Brazilian and he poked the ball wide, before firing off-target again after Rodrigo De Paul played him in with a clever lob.
Argentine midfielder De Paul, on a strong run of form, swept a shot wide as the hosts continued to dominate at the Metropolitano stadium.
David Soria saved from Julian Alvarez shortly before the teams went in goalless at the break. Pablo Barrios fired narrowly off-target before Atletico took the lead in the 69th minute.
Substitute Sorloth peeled off his marker at the far post and placed a header back across goal and into the net from Nahuel Molina's cross.
Molina was another reinforcement brought on by Simeone, with Atletico's impressive squad depth telling.
"Before the game I spoke with the players about thanking and recognising those who weren't going to start the game," said Simeone.
"There are very important players who are competing in an extraordinary way, and you can tell that when they come into the team.
"That is our strength, to compete in the way we want, we need everyone to be as involved as they (currently) are, it's our biggest strength."
Getafe pushed for a leveller but it was Atletico who came closer to scoring in the final stages, with Angel Correa running through on goal but between Soria and two defenders, the visitors managed to thwart him.

Jude Bellingham guided champions Real Madrid to a comfortable 3-0 victory at Girona on Saturday in La Liga, with Kylian Mbappe also on the scoresheet after two high-profile penalty misses in recent games. Los Blancos cut the gap on league leaders Barcelona to two points after the Catalans drew 2-2 at Real Betis, with Madrid having played one fewer match.

Bellingham opened the scoring before half-time and set up Turkish playmaker Arda Guler for Madrid's second, before Mbappe produced a clinical finish for their third.

Both Bellingham and defender Ferland Mendy were replaced with apparent knocks in the second half ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash at Atalanta.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Bellingham was "available" for the game but said Mendy had suffered a muscular injury.

After Madrid's fifth defeat across all competitions in midweek against Athletic Bilbao, having lost just twice last season, Ancelotti pledged his team would improve and they were significantly better against Girona.

"Bellingham scored his fifth goal running (in La Liga), Mbappe scored, Brahim (Diaz) did good work, Arda scored a great goal," Ancelotti said. "We have to bear the moment out and as I said, bit by bit we will come back (to form)."

With Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo sidelined, Ancelotti selected Bellingham and Diaz in support of Mbappe.

The French forward has been the focus of criticism in recent weeks after blowing penalties against Liverpool and Athletic Bilbao, and struggling to find the form which made him a star with Paris Saint-Germain and his country.

Girona, who ran Madrid close for the Spanish title for much of last season before eventually finishing third, started the stronger but Madrid soon clicked into gear.

Bellingham pounced after 36 minutes when Diaz's cross was blocked and the ball fell kindly to the England international to drill home.

It was Bellingham's fifth goal in his last five La Liga games, finding the form which powered Madrid to a Champions League and La Liga double last season.

Los Blancos got their second in the 55th minute when Bellingham threaded through a fine pass for Guler to finish.

Mbappe rattled in Madrid's third from a tight angle after Bellingham hobbled off with a knock after Luka Modric played him in down the right.

Ancelotti will hope Madrid can carry some momentum into the vital Champions League visit to Atalanta, for which Vinicius is expected to return from a hamstring problem.

Girona, eighth in La Liga, welcome Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday.

<h2>Betis peg back Barca</h2>

Earlier Real Betis twice came behind to stop Barcelona from triumphing in Seville. Assane Diao levelled in the 94th minute to stun Barcelona, who opened the scoring after 39 minutes through Robert Lewandowski. After Giovani Lo Celso levelled for the mid-table hosts from the penalty spot, substitute Ferran Torres struck what seemed the winner before Diao's late intervention.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said his team had to improve on the road, where most of their set-backs have come this season.

"We have the quality to win every match but we also have to show that," said Flick. "(In) the away matches we have to be much stronger than we played here."

Real Betis started strongly, with Raphinha forced to clear Diego Llorente's header off his own goal-line.

The electric Yamal helped Barcelona get on top as Betis sat deep and the Catalans found the breakthrough shortly before the break with a slick move finished by Lewandowski.

It was the 36-year-old striker's 16th league goal of the campaign and he leads the charts in Spain.

The hosts levelled with a penalty converted by Lo Celso, when Frenkie de Jong stepped on the heel of Vitor Roque, on loan at Betis from Barca, with Flick sent off for protesting.

"I'm really disappointed about (my red card), I thought that would never happen to me," Flick told reporters.

Torres netted his second goal in two games to put Barca back in front before Diao struck late on.

"I'm very happy with the goal," said the 19-year-old forward. "Now I want to go for more."

Real Madrid’s win at Girona cuts gap at top with La Liga leaders Barcelona

Negotiations to establish a landmark global treaty to tackle plastic pollution have collapsed, with delegates from nearly 200 nations failing to meet a self-imposed deadline after a week of intense talks in Busan, South Korea. The negotiations, marked by stark divisions, will now continue at a later date.

The main difference was over production cuts on plastic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>A crisis of consensus</h2>

For a week, delegates from nearly 200 nations wrestled with how to stop plastic waste. The talks were aimed at addressing the millions of tonnes of plastic waste that flood ecosystems annually, with microplastics now found everywhere from Mount Everest to the Mariana Trench—and even within human bodies.&nbsp;

However, progress stalled due to disagreements between "high-ambition" nations advocating for a globally binding agreement to limit production and phase out harmful chemicals and a coalition of oil-producing nations resisting these measures, insisting instead on a focus solely on waste management. &nbsp;

Negotiations to establish a landmark global treaty to tackle plastic pollution have collapsed, with delegates from nearly 200 nations failing to meet a self-imposed deadline after a week of intense talks in Busan, South Korea.

The main difference was over production cuts on plastic. A crisis of consensus For a week, delegates from nearly 200 nations wrestled with how to stop plastic waste. The talks were aimed at addressing the millions of tonnes of plastic waste that flood ecosystems annually, with microplastics now found everywhere from Mount Everest to the Mariana Trench—and even within human bodies. However, progress stalled due to disagreements between "high-ambition" nations advocating for a globally binding agreement to limit production and phase out harmful chemicals and a coalition of oil-producing nations resisting these measures, insisting instead on a focus solely on waste management. La Liga: Barcelona hit five as they return to winning ways at Mallorca

Spanish champions Real Madrid beat Getafe 2-0 to move second in La Liga on Sunday with Kylian Mbappe finding the net after a difficult week, but also missing other presentable chances. The French striker has been criticised for his form of late, but after Jude Bellingham opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Mbappe slotted home a well-taken second.

Mbappe wasted three other clear opportunities but Madrid were able to climb within one point of league leaders Barcelona, who lost on Saturday at home against Las Palmas.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois compared the striker to a bottle struggling to disperse its contents.

"I'm sure he will end up scoring a lot more goals, sometimes it's like a bottle that's a bit blocked... when it all starts coming out at once, I think a lot more goals will follow," said Courtois. "That some (chances) didn't go in is a shame for him... but his goal in the first half is incredible, with that position to get a shot on goal and put it away like that is very hard."

Carlo Ancelotti's side have played one fewer game than the Catalans, and Atletico Madrid, third, who are one point behind.

"(Mbappe) played very well, he was active, dangerous as always," said Ancelotti. "He scored an important goal, he created chances in the second half and had a very active game, it's what we want from him."

Mbappe, playing in his favoured role on the left with Vinicius Junior out injured, was offered plenty of support by Madrid's fans.

"The fans understand more than anyone what moment the team is in, and the players (are in)," added Ancelotti.

Getafe set out to slow the game down and they largely succeeded until Allan Nyom tugged down Antonio Rudiger in the area after half an hour.

After Mbappe missed his penalty against Liverpool in the Champions League defeat at Anfield on Wednesday, Bellingham stepped up to take the spot-kick.

The England international outfoxed David Soria to send Madrid ahead on the half-hour with his third goal in three league games.

"Today Bellingham or Mbappe had to choose (who took the penalty), they both chose Bellingham," said Ancelotti.

Mbappe doubled his team's lead with a superb strike seven minutes prior to the break, after Bellingham spread the ball out to him on the left flank.

The France captain drove inside and curled home a low effort inside the far post for his eighth league goal of the season.

Ancelotti took off Bellingham at half-time because of an apparent knock sustained in a collision with Soria, but later said he thought the midfielder would recover quickly.

Las Palmas claimed a surprise 2-1 victory at La Liga leaders Barcelona on Saturday, spoiling the hosts' 125th anniversary celebrations. Sandro Ramirez sent Las Palmas ahead early in the second half and although Raphinha hammered home an equaliser, Fabio Silva struck to claim three points and take his team up to 14th.

Barcelona still lead champions Real Madrid by four points but third-place Los Blancos, who host Getafe on Sunday, have played two fewer games than the Catalans and Atletico.

Barca have now gone three league games without a victory, after a run of 11 wins in 12 prior in the top flight.

"We had a bad game, we have to look at what we're doing badly to try and improve and win games," Raphinha told Movistar. "I don't care about my goal, I care about winning, we didn't win and I'm not satisfied with the game."

Barcelona wore white shorts as part of their anniversary celebrations, as they used to back at the start of their history.

They held a gala in the city on Friday night to mark the occasion, having been founded on November 29, 1899, but came undone on Saturday afternoon.

"We have to (play) like we did at the beginning of the season... it's a big disappointment today," Flick told reporters. "Today we have more than 70 percent ball possession but we're not able to score the goals -- maybe we have to change one or two things.

"We made some mistakes, but it was not the back four, it starts (with the players) in front, we have to speak about that."

The Catalans were able to name teenage starlet Lamine Yamal on the bench after recovering from an ankle problem.

Raphinha came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half, scoring from an offside position and hitting the crossbar after being played through by Gavi.

Flick threw on Yamal at the break, hoping the winger would give Barca the advantage after an even first half.

Las Palmas took a surprise lead early in the second half when Kirian Rodriguez played in Ramirez, who drilled home from the edge of the box.

Raphinha hit back quickly for Barcelona with a thumping long-range effort, but Las Palmas were soon ahead again.

Silva ran onto Munoz's probing long ball and fired past Inaki Pena to restore the Canary Islanders' advantage with his fifth goal in eight league matches.

Former Barca goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen made several good saves and Las Palmas survived eight minutes of stoppage time.

"It was a very important win, we worked hard for it, Barca put you under a lot of pressure," midfielder Moleiro told Movistar after Las Palmas sealed their first away win at Barcelona since 1971.

Las Palmas spoil Barcelona’s 125th anniversary celebrations with shock away win in La Liga

La Liga leaders Barcelona suffered a dramatic collapse in a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo on Saturday. Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski's goals put the Catalans in a healthy position but Marc Casado's red card in the 82nd minute helped Celta snatch a point. Alfonso Gonzalez capitalised on a Jules Kounde error to pull a goal back before Hugo Alvarez levelled two minutes later.

Barcelona have won 11 league games this season but this became the third they have failed to take three points from without teenage winger Lamine Yamal.

Coach Hansi Flick said he would challenge his side to win without the injured 17-year-old wing wizard and it seemed like they were managing it until their spectacular late crumble.

Barcelona are five points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga, with champions Real Madrid, third, playing on Sunday at Leganes.

"We had the game under control but the red card had a big impact on us and they scored two goals in two moves and we have to learn from that," Barcelona midfielder Gavi told DAZN. "The first goal was so stupid, we have to clear the ball there, but it's football and we have to learn from it, with one man less it's hard."

Gavi made his first start in over a year after recovering from a severe knee injury.

"I'm happy, after a year, but the truth is the important thing was the three points and it wasn't possible," added the 20-year-old.

Flick shifted Raphinha into Yamal's position on the right, using Dani Olmo on the left and Pedri in attacking midfield.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the 15th minute, slotting home neatly to continue his fine form after Kounde lofted a ball forward for him.

Barcelona left-back Gerard Martin was issued an early booking and lived on the edge in the first half, nudging over Iago Aspas as he ran through but just about staying on the right side of the law.

The defender then fouled Aspas before half-time and was lucky to escape a second booking as Celta's captain fumed and was issued a yellow card himself for his outburst.

Flick brought off Martin at the break for Hector Fort, fearing a potential dismissal.

<h2>'Inexplicable'</h2>

Hunting for Barcelona's second, Lewandowski had produced a fine lobbed finish in the first half but the goal was chalked off for offside.

The forward was not to be denied though and just after the hour mark he stroked home Barcelona's second after Raphinha played him in.

It was the 36-year-old striker's 15th league goal of the campaign, further extending his vast lead as La Liga's top scorer.

Inaki Pena made a handful of saves for Barcelona, denying Hugo Alvarez with his leg.

Raphinha could have killed the game off completely but the winger hit the post with a low effort after being sent through.

The Catalans were reduced to 10 men after 82 minutes when recent Spain debutant Casado picked up his second yellow card for fouling former Barca midfielder Ilaix Moriba.

It restored Celta's belief and moments later they pulled one back when Kounde dallied on the ball in his own area and Gonzalez picked his pocket and finished past Pena.

Two minutes later Alvarez levelled for Celta as Barcelona collapsed, cutting in from the right and finishing clinically to snatch a point.

Celta, 11th, have a strong record at Balaidos against Barcelona in recent years and the players celebrated with their fans at the end of the game.

"We found ourselves with that red card and the (first) goal, and then the second came, it's inexplicable," said a delighted Alvarez. "We got the draw, we wanted more -- this team has great quality."

La Liga leaders Barcelona suffer late collapse at Celta Vigo in Lamine Yamal’s absence

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said Friday he would ask his players if they can win without injured teenage winger Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old will miss the visit to face Celta Vigo on Saturday in La Liga with an ankle problem.

Table-toppers Barcelona have failed to win the two matches he has not started this season.

Yamal was on the bench as Barcelona were beaten 4-2 by Osasuna in September and missed the 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad before the international break.

The Catalan giants have won the other 11 league matches they have played during a fine start to the campaign under the German coach.

Asked if his team could win without Spain star Yamal, who has become a vital part of Barcelona's attack, Flick said he would put that question to the squad.

"I will ask the team this tomorrow, I think it's a good question for them," he told a news conference. "Lamine is for us very important but we also have to adapt to this -- we have players who can play (instead of) him...

"Lamine cannot play tomorrow, we'll see when he's back. It's important for us that he will (return at) 100 percent."

Flick would not be drawn on a potential replacement for Yamal, after using Fermin Lopez on the right flank to limited effect at Real Sociedad.

"It could be Raphinha, it could be Dani (Olmo), Fermin, Pablo (Torre) or Pau (Victor), we have different options," added the coach.

Flick also said Gavi was fit enough to start after a long-term injury and a handful of substitute appearances on his way back to fitness.

The coach was also happy with former Barcelona great Lionel Messi's recent praise for his side.

Inter Miami forward Messi, Barcelona's best ever player, said he felt "great pride" at the club's performances this season and that the current side was "spectacular".

"It's an honour that the best player here from Barca in history, he says this, and he follows the team, how it's playing and also how the young players are doing," said Flick. "He's always (got) his whole heart with this club and it means a lot for us and the whole team."

"He's always (got) his whole heart with this club and it means a lot for us and the whole team." Barcelona must learn to win without prodigy Lamine Yamal, urges coach Hansi Flick

Dani Olmo struck twice for Barcelona on his first start after an injury absence as they beat local rivals Espanyol 3-1 on Sunday to move nine points clear at the top of La Liga. With second-place Real Madrid not in action after their game at Valencia was called off because of the devastating floods in the region, Hansi Flick's side stretched their lead on the champions.

Raphinha netted in between Olmo's goals as Barcelona racked up a three-goal lead by the 31st minute at the Olympic stadium. Javi Puado pulled one back as Espanyol fought hard to avoid a derby pummeling in the second half, with the visitors scoring three disallowed goals.

Barcelona have started life under Flick in sensational form and after beating Bayern Munich and Real Madrid last week, earned their 10th win in 11 La Liga matches with a devastating first-half display. "I feel good, I was really looking forward to returning, to be able help the team on the pitch," Olmo told DAZN after his first start since mid-September. "I'm back, enjoying it, playing, winning, and I want more."

Summer signing Olmo had made substitute appearances in Barcelona's last two games but given the chance to start, he produced an electric display in the first half. "We knew Espanyol would give everything but we got the three points, so it's objective complete," he added.

Former RB Leipzig playmaker Olmo headed over in the early stages and had a shot saved by Joan Garcia, who also denied teenage star Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old Spain international crafted the first goal with a delicious pass using the outside of his boot, which Olmo dispatched with an explosive finish.

Brazilian winger Raphinha lofted the second over Garcia when Marc Casado, who has established himself at the base of the midfield, produced a fine pass which split Espanyol's defence wide open.

Jofre Carreras pulled one back for Espanyol but it was disallowed for offside in the build-up, as Barcelona's high defensive line continued to work to good effect. Olmo added his second with a powerful low drive from the edge of the box after Alejandro Balde teed him up.

Robert Lewandowski, La Liga's top goalscorer this season, could not get in on the action with Garcia saving his curling effort and Barcelona were frustrated in attack in the second half as neighbours Espanyol, 17th, battled well.

Alvaro Tejero had another goal disallowed for offside against Jofre, and Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena made a stunning save to deny Puado.

Eventually Puado found the net from Carlos Romero's cross and then had another goal ruled out himself as the ball had gone out of play before being crossed to him.

Ansu Fati also found the net for Barcelona in stoppage time but it too was disallowed for offside. "In the second half we corrected (mistakes), we had chances, we had a couple of goals ruled out, but if you don't have a perfect game it's very hard to win, and going 3-0 down it's hard to come back from," said Puado.

ATHLETICO GO PAST LAS PALMAS

Earlier Atletico Madrid eased to a 2-0 win over Las Palmas and moved third, with coach Diego Simeone's son Giuliano netting his first goal for the club. Coach Diego Simeone&nbsp;had said there was "no sense" in playing La Liga matches this weekend because of the floods, but his team secured a comfortable victory.

Donations of food and other useful products were collected outside the Metropolitano stadium in support of those affected in the east of Spain by the floods which have killed more than 200 people.&nbsp;

Simeone's son Guiliano said, "I'm very happy for my first goal for Atletico but we can't ignore everything that's happening in Valencia, all the victims there. I send my support and strength to them."

The hosts took the lead after 37 minutes when Nahuel Molina's long ball found Simeone darting in behind the defence. The striker, deployed on the right wing by his father, burst into the box and swept the ball into the far corner.

Meanwhile,&nbsp;Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis shared a 1-1 draw at San Mames.

Dani Olmo double helps Liga leaders Barcelona to derby win vs Espanyol

Atletico Madrid on Friday permanently banned nine of their supporters from attending matches after incidents of crowd trouble and racist behaviour.

A La Liga clash against rivals Real Madrid on September 29 at Atletico's Metropolitano stadium was halted by officials after some supporters threw objects including lighters onto the pitch.

Atletico were also fined by UEFA when some of their supporters were found guilty of "racist and discriminatory" behaviour during a 4-0 Champions League thrashing at Benfica on October 2.

"Our security department has worked on identifying those involved in these events by reviewing all the audio-visual materials at its disposal and in collaboration with the police," said Atletico in a statement.

"This process was finalised by (setting in motion) the permanent expulsion of nine club members for actions considered in the club's internal protocol to be very serious (offences)...

"Once again we reiterate our strongest condemnation of any type of violence and our commitment to fight against this sort of attitude that has no place in football and does not represent the general feeling of our fans and tarnishes the image of Atletico Madrid."

After the incidents during the 1-1 draw against Real Madrid, Atletico were hit with a partial stadium closure for three matches by the Spanish football federation, although that was reduced to one game on appeal.

In October Spanish police said they arrested four males suspected of inciting an online hate campaign targeting Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior before the game.

The viral social media campaign encouraged Atletico fans to arrive at the stadium with masks on to thwart attempts to identify them while uttering "degrading and discriminatory insults with racist connotations," said police.

Atletico also said they had added to their internal regulations "the prohibition of using (anything) to prevent a person's face from being seen in order to hide their identity in the stadium."

La Liga: Atletico Madrid ban nine fans after crowd trouble, racism

Real Madrid condemned racism from some of their supporters aimed at Barcelona players including teenager Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde during the club's 4-0 Clasico defeat on Saturday.

La Liga said they would report the incidents to Spanish authorities, while the government was also critical of the abuse.

"Real Madrid strongly condemns any kind of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium," said Los Blancos in a statement Sunday.

Videos emerged on social media after the game of racial abuse aimed at Barcelona players, with 17-year-old Spain star Yamal targeted during a goal celebration after becoming the youngest Clasico scorer.

The Spanish champions said they had "opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the perpetrators of these deplorable and despicable insults".

"La Liga will immediately report the racist insults and gestures directed at Barcelona players to the hate crime unit of the national police," said the Spanish top flight in a statement.

Spain's sports council (CSD) said their Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in sport would meet Monday to discuss the case.

"The Clasico is one of the greatest spectacles in the world, a true expression of the importance that football has in our country," said the CSD in a statement.

"In it, as in any other sporting event, there can never be any room for expressions of violence, racism, xenophobia, hatred or intolerance."

"Neither racism, nor insults, nor violence have a place in our country's sport," wrote Pilar Alegria, Spain's minister for education, professional development and sports on social media platform X.

Elma Saiz, Spain's minister for inclusion and migration, also offered support to Yamal.

"The racist insults aimed at Lamine Yamal in the Clasico are everything we in the government will fight against," she wrote on X.

"We will not allow attacks that we do not tolerate in other spaces to become normalised in sport."

Spanish football is struggling to combat racism in stadiums across the country.

Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior has become a figurehead in the fight against racism and has been targeted on numerous occasions since arriving in Spain in 2018.

The Brazilian winger earned worldwide support in May 2023 when he squared off with Valencia supporters after suffering abuse at their Mestalla stadium.

In June three Valencia supporters were sentenced to eight months in prison as a result.

In January 2023, an effigy in a Vinicius shirt was found hanging from a bridge near the club's training ground alongside a banner saying: "Madrid hates Real".

In December, four Atletico Madrid fans were charged over the incident, with prosecutors pushing for jail terms of four years.

This week Spanish police arrested four men suspected of inciting an online hate campaign against Vinicius.

'Deeply regret the insults,' Real Madrid on racist abuse of Barcelona players in El Clasico

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti lamented his side's missed opportunities in their stunning 4-0 home defeat to bitter rivals Barcelona in a LaLiga Clasico on Saturday but said it was not all doom and gloom despite the result.

"It was an evenly played match, until they scored their first goal. We played with intensity in the first half but lacked a bit of accuracy. We had chances to take the lead but they scored two goals, which sapped our energy. That's when another game started," Ancelotti told a press conference of Robert Lewandowski's quick-fire double early in the second-half to set the LaLiga leaders Barca on course for a 4-0 thrashing.

Prior to that, the home side had dominated possession and missed various chances, mainly through off-form Kylian Mbappe. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha wrapped Barca's win later.

"We are hurt, it's a tough moment, but I want to thank the fans for their support. We don't have to throw everything away, because there is nothing to throw away," added a downhearted Ancelotti.

"We have to forget the last 30 minutes. The season is very long, we must not give up. We have to learn from it. It's time to bounce back. The season is long. We must not throw everything away. The team can do better and we will."

Ancelotti said he thinks Real Madrid deserved better and that he didn't believe the result told the true story of the match, but acknowledged that his team paid the price for missing so many chances.

"The result doesn't reflect what happened on the pitch. We couldn't take the lead and they went ahead and took it. The game, until the first goal, was very even and we had more chances," Ancelotti said, before commenting on Mbappe's lacklustre performance, being caught offside nine times.

"It was known that Barca use a high defence and we barely took advantage of it. (Mbappe) had chances and sometimes was offside, but he had three or four chances where he needed to be more accurate..."

Barca stretched their lead at the top with 30 points, six above Real who saw their 42-game unbeaten LaLiga run come to a bitter end after 13 months, leaving them one tantalizing positive result away from equalling the Catalans' league record of 43.

La Liga: Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo injured, set to miss key Clasico clash

A Spanish couple is under investigation in Singapore after protesting in the Asian city-state against the Singaporean owner of Spanish first division football club Valencia, Peter Lim.

Dani Cuesta and his wife Mireia Saez -- who were reportedly on their honeymoon -- were stopped at Singapore airport on Friday when they attempted to board a flight to Bali, Valencia mayor Maria Jose Catala told Spanish radio station Onda Cero Tuesday.

She added that they have been prevented from leaving the country.

Cuesta had posted photos of himself on social media from several locations in Singapore holding a black and yellow banner that read "Lim go Home", including outside a building where the businessman is believed to live.

A Singapore police spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that a complaint was lodged against a 34-year-old Spanish man and a 30-year-old Spanish woman and their passports "have been impounded".

"They are assisting with investigations for the alleged offence of taking part in a public assembly," the spokesperson said.

Catala said she had spoken to Spain's ambassador to Singapore, who said the couple have not been charged with any crime.

"They can leave their hotel, they are living a relatively normal life in Singapore, but they cannot leave the country," she said.

Singapore has strict laws limiting critical speech and assembly, which includes protests by just one person.

The government argues the rules are needed to maintain social order and harmony, but rights groups say they are overly broad and make the country repressive.

Valencia football club said it hoped for "the best and quickest possible resolution" to the plight of its two supporters.

"Valencia CF and La Liga are in contact with the Spanish embassy in Singapore, who have assured us that both are being advised and assisted in everything necessary with the objective of this being resolved as quickly as possible," it added in a statement.

Lim, one of Singapore's richest men, bought debt-ridden Valencia in 2014, becoming the Spanish side's first foreign owner.

While his arrival was initially enthusiastically received, he failed to turn around the club's fortunes, and many Valencia fans have turned against him.

Protests against Lim have become commonplace in Valencia, with banners saying "Lim go home" regularly sighted at La Liga&nbsp;games at the club's stadium.

Valencia is currently ranked near the bottom of the Spanish league.

Protests against Lim have become commonplace in Valencia, with banners saying "Lim go home" regularly sighted at La Liga games at the club's stadium. Valencia is currently ranked near the bottom of the Spanish league. Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits to adhere to WION's style guide. Spanish couple under probe in Singapore for protesting against LaLiga club Valencia's owner

France captain Kylian Mbappe is facing criticism in his home country for skipping their upcoming Nations League games against Israel and Belgium while being available to play for Real Madrid.

The forward picked up a muscle injury last month but made his return to the pitch off the bench in his club's Champions League defeat at Lille last Wednesday.

France coach Didier Deschamps left Mbappe out of the squad he announced on Thursday, saying the 25-year-old lacked preparation, having played too few matches.

Mbappe started Real's LaLiga win over Villarreal on Saturday.

"Either you're injured, and you don't play with your club and you're not called up in the national team," former France international Maxime Bossis told French sports daily L'Equipe on Monday.

"But when you come off the bench in the Champions League and you start a league game, it makes things fuzzy. He's a special player. We've known that with Michel Platini, when we still wanted him with us when he was injured."

In a video released by the French Football Federation (FFF) on Monday, Deschamps said: "Kylian embodies a lot of things ... The interests of the clubs and the interests of the national teams inevitably diverge. We must also remember that the employer is the club, not the federation."

Mbappe's situation is more complicated because the former Paris St Germain player is the France captain after being handed the armband ahead of Antoine Griezmann, who last week announced his retirement from international football.

France, second in Group A, face Israel in Budapest on Thursday and travel to Belgium next Monday.

<h2>INTERIM CAPTAIN</h2>

"(The captaincy) is on my mind. But, as I do every time, the key is to discuss it with the players involved," coach Deschamps added.

"Obviously, with Kylian our captain, and Antoine, who was the vice-captain, both missing, it means there will definitely be others for these two matches."

Griezmann's commitment to Les Bleus was never in doubt as the Atletico Madrid forward played a record 84 consecutive matches for his country between 2017 and 2024.

"As a captain (Mbappe) must be an example for the fans, and he has not been," Fabien Bonnet, spokesperson for the Irresistibles Francais, the main France supporters' group, told L'Equipe.

"What emerges is that the real captain, Antoine Griezmann, is gone."

On choosing the skipper for the Nations League games, Deschamps said: "It’s more about if (I can find) certain players who can handle this responsibility in the moment without it affecting their behaviour or performance.

"That’s why it’s important for me to really know the players on a personal level - their character, their sensitivity -relative to the group."

Kylian Mbappe under fire for skipping France duty but playing for Real Madrid

Barcelona have signed Wojciech Szczesny as a free agent, the LaLiga club said on Wednesday after the Polish goalkeeper reversed his decision to retire and come to the team's aid after they lost Marc-Andre ter Stegen to a long-term injury.

German keeper Ter Stegen underwent surgery after suffering a rupture of the patella tendon in his right knee over the weekend and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Inaki Pena, 25, is expected to cover for Ter Stegen but Barca have now reinforced their squad with Szczesny, who had announced his retirement last month after terminating his contract with Serie A side Juventus.

The 34-year-old former Poland international had one more year left on his contract at Juve, where he had replaced Italy great Gianluigi Buffon in goal.

Atletico&nbsp;Madrid&nbsp;said on Monday they had permanently banned a fan for throwing objects onto the field during the weekend's heated derby draw with Real&nbsp;Madrid. Sunday's match at Atletico's Estadio Metropolitano was halted for 15 minutes after home fans threw objects including lighters at&nbsp;Madrid&nbsp;players.

"We will continue to work with all our resources with the aim of eliminating this type of behaviour," they added.

Atletico Madrid ban fan permanently after Real derby disruption

Angel Correa's 95th-minute equaliser snatched&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;Madrid a 1-1 derby draw against Spanish champions Real Madrid on Sunday in La Liga. The Argentine forward had to wait nervously for a VAR review to prove he was onside but he had timed his run to perfection and secured the hosts a point.

Real Madrid, without injured star striker Kylian Mbappe, largely kept&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;at arm's length on a spiky night in the Spanish capital, taking the lead through Eder Militao midway through the second half. The match was suspended for around 15 minutes soon afterwards when&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;fans threw objects including lighters at Madrid players, and Rojiblancos midfielder Marcos Llorente was sent off at the death.

"I think it was a correct decision from the referee, he had to stop the game... and then it started again, it was correctly done," said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Correa's late strike put&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;third, while Real Madrid, second, moved three points behind leaders Barcelona after their defeat at Osasuna on Saturday. "We were very close to winning but this can happen, the opponent is very strong," added Ancelotti. "I always think positively, not negatively, I think that we've gained a point on the leaders."

Despite the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser, Madrid reached 40 consecutive league games without defeat, their last loss coming just over a year ago at&nbsp;Atletico.

This time they were largely in the driving seat, with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti opting for veteran midfielder Luka Modric in place of Mbappe.

The first half failed to set pulses racing although former&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved well at his near post from Julian Alvarez, who drifted in with intent from the left. At the other end, Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde twice came close, with Jan Oblak first saving a long-range effort before he sent a free-kick whistling past the post.

The second half continued in the same vein until Madrid forged their way ahead through defender Militao in the 64th minute. Modric sent a free-kick out to the left flank and Vinicius Junior's cross drifted all the way through to the back post, where Militao was waiting. The Brazilian hammered home with the aid a deflection off Llorente, which left Oblak with no chance.

<h2>- Fan trouble -</h2>

A few minutes later the match was temporarily suspended by the officials after&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;fans threw lighters and other objects at Madrid stars, including Courtois. Diego Simeone,&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;captain Koke and Jose Maria Gimenez went to try and calm the situation by talking to fans behind Madrid's goal.

The referee sent the players into the dressing rooms for around 15 minutes before play eventually resumed. Oblak made a fine save from Vinicius' low drive and Endrick smashed wide as Madrid looked the more likely to score, until Correa's late intervention.

The forward darted in behind Antonio Rudiger and bundled home to level deep in second-half injury time. Llorente's ugly foul on Fran Garcia left&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;to see out the final moments with 10 men, but they were able to claim their point.

Atletico&nbsp;coach Simeone aimed thinly-veiled criticism at Courtois for celebrating Madrid's goal while looking at the supporters behind him. "You can celebrate a goal but not by looking at the fans, having a go, making gestures like that," Simeone told DAZN. "The fans don't just become angry by themselves, they become angry for a reason."

The coach also pointed out Real Madrid fans had thrown lighters at the Belgian goalkeeper in the past when he was an&nbsp;Atletico&nbsp;player. There was more bad news for Real Madrid beyond the equaliser as Courtois appeared to be having some discomfort late in the game.

"Courtois had a muscular issue, he'll be looked at tomorrow," said Ancelotti. Elsewhere, Real Betis beat Espanyol 1-0, Sevilla rescued a late draw at Athletic Bilbao and Girona drew 1-1 at Celta Vigo.

La Liga: Angel Correa snatches Atletico Madrid spiky derby draw vs Real Madrid

Julian Alvarez struck a 90th-minute winner for Atletico Madrid to snatch them a 1-0 victory at Celta Vigo on Thursday in La Liga. Even a single point would have flattered Diego Simeone's side but they took all three when the Argentina international, on as a substitute, finished Antoine Griezmann's cross at the back post.

Celta had the better chances as Atletico, third, lacked spark ahead of the derby clash against Spanish champions Real Madrid on Sunday. "We didn't play well in attack in the first half," Simeone told DAZN. "The subs gave us a bit more creativity to be able to win the game."

Simeone started his son Giuliano for the first time after some substitute appearances in recent weeks and left star summer signing Alvarez on the bench.

Atletico failed to take a single shot in a low quality first half, while Celta threatened seriously only just before the interval, when Jan Oblak saved brilliantly from Iago Aspas' drive.

The Slovenian goalkeeper made another superb stop from Borja Iglesias' close-range header after 57 minutes to keep Atletico level. However it was Atletico who claimed victory when former Manchester City striker Alvarez, on as a substitute, stayed sharp to prod home Griezmann's deep cross.

"(Scoring) helps for confidence, and it's always to help the team... these are three important points," said Alvarez. "We knew that it would be a difficult game, Celta have done very well at home. "Bit by bit we improved in the game, and in the second half we made some chances."

Earlier Ayoze Perez netted twice to claim Villarreal a 2-1 win at Espanyol, taking the Yellow Submarine fourth. With six goals the Spain international trails only Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski in the scoring charts by one strike.

Home fans were angry with referee Alejandro Quintero Gonzalez's lenient officiating and one threw a plastic cup which struck the official as he walked off at full-time.

Real Betis could only secure a 1-1 draw at bottom of the table Las Palmas. Barcelona lead the league after their 1-0 win over Getafe on Wednesday with Real Madrid second, beating Alaves 3-2 on Tuesday.

La Liga: Julian Alvarez's late strike ensures Atletico Madrid fortunate victory at Celta

Robert Lewandowski continued his fine form and earned La Liga leaders Barcelona a 1-0 win over Getafe on Wednesday. The Polish forward struck from close range in the first half to maintain Barca's 100 percent record in the league so far this season with their seventh victory. Barcelona dominated despite not being able to add to their lead and restored a four-point advantage on Real Madrid, who beat Alaves on Tuesday.

"You can't always win by a lot of goals," defender Jules Kounde told Movistar. "I think the important thing is we made a lot of chances again and took the three points... Getafe is always a tough team to handle."

Coach Hansi Flick started Inaki Pena in goal for the stricken Marc-Andre ter Stegen, out for months with a severe knee injury, and brought Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde back into the side.

The reserve goalkeeper, who conceded 32 times in 17 matches across all competitions last season, heard his name chanted supportively by fans behind his goal and saved an early header from Carles Perez.

By contrast his opposite number David Soria's weak touch on Kounde's cross led to Barcelona's opener on 19 minutes, the ball falling perfectly for Lewandowski to finish from close range.

The 36-year-old striker has seven goals in La Liga this season and leads the scoring charts, seemingly rejuvenated under Flick after struggling at times last season. "For me he's the best number nine of the last 10 years," Flick, who also coached him at Bayern Munich, told reporters. "His job is in front of the goal, in the box, and he's doing that great."

Teen starlet Lamine Yamal might have doubled the lead moments later when Raphinha played him in, but he nudged inches past the post.

Soria made a good save from Raphinha, who collected the August player of the month award before kick-off, and soon sent another effort skidding wide.

Yamal almost bent home a delicious curling strike from distance before the hour, but Soria tipped it over the crossbar.

The Getafe goalkeeper also palmed a dangerous Raphinha free-kick around the post as Barcelona pushed for a second to put the match to bed.

Spain's Euro 2024 hero Yamal clipped the top of the crossbar with a vicious effort from distance, as Barca started to grumble about Getafe's persistently heavy challenges. Raphinha missed a golden chance in the final stages, heading wide after a clever dart into the box but Barcelona were not punished for their profligacy.

<h2>- Late scare -</h2>

Getafe, 19th, are still winless and wasted a fine chance of their own at the death when Borja Mayoral failed to get a shot away when well placed and free inside the box.

"We didn't put away our chances... we have to be more decisive in the area," said Getafe midfielder Luis Milla. The Madrid club have found the net on just three occasions so far this season. "It's clear we have to improve there, I'm sure the team will end up scoring," added Milla.

The leaders next travel to face Osasuna on Saturday, before second-placed Real Madrid face rivals Atletico Madrid in a derby clash on Sunday.

Even with various star names out injured, Flick's side have continued to improve since he arrived. "He's a coach who is very sure how he wants to play (and) we're understanding it well," added Kounde. "The team is enjoying training and we're comfortable in the games.

Getafe is always a tough team to handle." Coach Hansi Flick started Inaki Pena in goal for the stricken Marc-Andre ter Stegen, out for months with a severe knee injury, and brought Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde back into the side. "His job is in front of the goal, in the box, and he's doing that great." Teen starlet Lamine Yamal might have doubled the lead moments later when Raphinha played him in, but he nudged inches past the post. Robert Lewandowski's strike helps La Liga leaders Barcelona go past Getafe

Vinicius Junior's decisive impact helped Real Madrid come from behind to beat a determined Espanyol side 4-1 on Saturday and move a point behind La Liga leaders&nbsp;Barcelona. The Brazilian started on the bench but created a goal for Rodrygo Goes before scoring himself to complete Madrid's turnaround after a Thibaut Courtois own goal gifted the visitors the lead early in the second half.

Dani Carvajal levelled for Madrid soon afterwards before Vinicius took the reins, with Kylian Mbappe adding a late penalty to net in his fourth consecutive game for the club. Hansi Flick's side, boasting a perfect record of five wins from five matches, visit unbeaten Villarreal, fourth, on Sunday, looking to restore their four-point lead.

"It was hard for us to score goals in the first half but we made so many chances," midfielder Luka Modric told Real Madrid TV. "The team played well... we had a great game and we can be happy, but we have to continue (like this)."

The comprehensive victory was Madrid's 38th consecutive La Liga game without defeat, their last loss in the competition coming just under a year ago, against Atletico Madrid in September 2023.

"That says a lot, not losing games in so many weeks is really nice, but we have to continue," added Modric. "It's quality, character, commitment from the team, everyone is ready when called on... those are the key factors."

With a packed calendar, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti rested Vinicius at the outset, opting for Arda Guler in his place alongside Mbappe and Rodrygo.

Madrid had a stranglehold on the first half without being able to make the breakthrough, with Mbappe heavily involved, hunting for his sixth goal of the season across all competitions.

Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia made a fine save at his near post to thwart the France captain's effort from a tight angle.

Eder Militao headed narrowly over from the subsequent corner and Mbappe had another long-range effort stopped as well as slashing a shot off-target.

Increasingly frustrated, Mbappe was booked for protesting against a decision called against him.

<h2>- Pressure and patience -</h2>

Jude Bellingham fired in a vicious drive from the edge of the box but Garcia saved comfortably to send the teams in goalless at the break.

Madrid have been able to score just one first half goal in eight matches this season.

Carlos Romero came close for the promoted visitors early in the second period with a strike that flew off-target, but it was mostly one-way traffic in the direction of Garcia's goal.

Madrid were therefore stunned when the visitors took the lead in the 54th minute, with Courtois clumsily deflecting Jofre Carreras' cross into his own net.

Ancelotti sent on Vinicius immediately but it was Carvajal who levelled four minutes later, tapping home on the line after Bellingham's cross squirmed away from the previously flawless Garcia.

Madrid turned the screw and claimed their rewards as Espanyol's resistance crumbled, with Vinicius producing a sublime cross with the outside of his boot to tee up Rodrygo for the second.

Mbappe unselfishly slipped Vinicius through on goal to tuck home for Madrid's third and the&nbsp;former Paris-Saint Germain star dispatched a late penalty himself to complete a sizeable victory.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha struck twice each as&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;romped to a 5-1 win at Villarreal on Sunday in a wild match to maintain their perfect start to La Liga. The leaders' sixth straight league triumph was marred by an potentially serious knee injury to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who was taken off on a stretcher.

"I think it will be a huge injury, when he laid down on the field... you can see it directly,"&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;coach Hansi Flick told DAZN.

Lewandowski netted&nbsp;Barcelona's first two goals and later missed a penalty in a thoroughly entertaining battle on Spain's east coast at Villarreal's Estadio de la Ceramica.

Ayoze Perez pulled his team back into the game shortly before half-time and the hosts had two goals disallowed, with Pablo Torre and Raphinha's strikes cementing&nbsp;Barcelona's victory.

After second-placed Real Madrid thrashed Espanyol 4-1 on Saturday the Catalans were able to restore a four-point lead on the champions.

"It's very important for us that we played a game away from home, we scored five goals and in the end we have three points," said Lewandowski. "In the end it doesn't matter how, as long as we win that's perfect."

Flick gave Eric Garcia another start in defensive midfield despite his early red card against Monaco in the Champions League midweek. The German coach also started reserve team players Gerard Martin and Sergi Dominguez, as well as playmaker Torre in place of the injured Dani Olmo.

Teenage star Lamine Yamal hit the post early on before Lewandowski slotted home in the 20th minute after Torre slipped him in.

Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Conde did well to keep out a bundled effort from the Polish striker but Lewandowski pounced after 35 minutes for his second.

Conde saved Garcia's header well but the former Bayern Munich hitman converted the rebound with an acrobatic finish from close range.

It was his sixth La Liga goal of the season, taking him two clear of Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe in Spain's golden boot race.

<h2>- Frantic clash -</h2>

Villarreal were frequently threatening on the counter and Perez gave them a lifeline after the electric Nicolas Pepe set him up.

Ter Stegen thwarted Pepe with a sensational save one-on-one before half-time but the German was soon stricken as he fell badly after catching a corner before the break and was replaced by Inaki Pena.

Pepe finished brilliantly early in the second half but his effort was disallowed for a marginal offside call, and Yeremy Pino hit the bar with a header as Marcelino Garcia Toral's side drove&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;back.

Torre extended Barca's lead with a deflected strike from the edge of the box, a killer blow given Villarreal's momentum.

Lewandowski hit the post from the spot after Eric Bailly scythed down Yamal and Villarreal's Thierno Barry had a goal ruled out for offside.

Raphinha ended any hopes of a home comeback, first with a deflected shot and then finishing after a superb Yamal pass left him with just Conde to beat.

Despite the emphatic victory and 100 percent start, if Ter Stegen's injury proves to be severe it could dent&nbsp;Barcelona's title hopes.

La Liga: Vinicius, Mbappe on target as Madrid thrash Espanyol, Barcelona rout Villarreal in thriller

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will have surgery on a ruptured knee tendon, the Catalan club said Monday, with the club's captain potentially sidelined for the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old German international was stretchered off after falling awkwardly during his team's 5-1 victory over Villarreal on Sunday.

"(Ter Stegen) has a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee," said Barcelona in a statement. "On Monday afternoon he will undergo a surgical process and once complete a new update will be released."

Ter Stegen, who was criticised after making a mistake in Barcelona's 2-1 Champions League defeat at Monaco on Thursday, suffered the injury before half-time at Villarreal's Estadio de la Ceramica.

Inaki Pena replaced Ter Stegen and is set to fill in for the German, although Barcelona may look to sign a replacement.

Flick said it was too soon to comment on the issue.

"I don't know if I like this question directly after the match... I just want to see how Marc is, he's our captain and is a very important player for us," said Flick.

"Please understand that I don't want to talk about that."

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to undergo knee surgery, to miss remainder of the season

Valencia coach Ruben Baraja said Friday striker Rafa Mir will be sidelined for two matches after he was accused of sexual assault last week.

The 27-year-old was arrested on September 2 after a complaint from two women accusing Mir and another man of sexual assault, before a judge ordered Mir's conditional release during an investigation to establish if there is enough evidence for a trial.

Valencia said Monday they had opened disciplinary proceedings against Mir while "respecting the legal presumption of innocence" and Baraja told reporters of the club's decision on Friday.

"It is a moment in which there is a club decision in which I cannot and should not participate because my role is in the sporting sphere, and the club decides to reinstate him," explained Baraja.

"This week, he is training on the sidelines and next week he will be reincorporated with the group.

"Once the two-game sanction is over, he will be part of the group like any other player, and I will decide if he plays or not."

The striker will miss Valencia's visit to face Atletico Madrid on Saturday in La Liga and a home clash against Girona next week.

Mir, who has also played for English team Wolves, has denied committing sexual assault.

"Throughout this whole process there have been situations in which it is very difficult to make a Solomonic decision that everyone likes, but we have tried to do things with common sense," continued Baraja.

"As a coach, it seems to me that an act of indiscipline has to have consequences, not only for him, but also for the health of the group.

"This gives us the chance to understand that a person can make mistakes, can have a day when he doesn't do things right and we have to give him a second chance."

Mir joined Valencia in July on loan from Sevilla, who signed him in 2021.

La Liga: Valencia suspend Rafa Mir for two matches after sexual assault allegations

Kylian Mbappe answered his critics in style as he netted his first La Liga goals to give Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday which sends them second in the table.

Since scoring in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta, new signing Mbappe had failed to find the back of the net in Madrid's opening three games in La Liga, prompting criticism in the Spanish press.

Mbappe was made to wait for his goals as he squandered a series of chances, finally finding the back of the net in the 67th minute, sweeping the ball past the Betis goalkeeper with his left foot after a well-timed back-heel from Fede Valverde.

Eight minutes later the France captain added a second from the penalty spot and was cheered off the field when he was replaced by Luka Modric in the 84th minute.

The smile on Mbappe's face was in contrast to the concern that had been shown since scoring his first goal and winning his first trophy in Warsaw on August 14.

On Saturday, coach Carlo Ancelotti hit back at the criticism, insisting that his star recruit was settling in well.

"It's true that he hasn't scored but he's playing very well and has been very dangerous every time. I don't think he has any problems adapting," said Ancelotti, pointing instead to his team's lack of balance.

Madrid's 2-0 win takes them second in the table with eight points, four behind early leaders Barcelona who eviscerated Real Valladolid 7-0 on Saturday to make it four wins from four in La Liga under new coach Hansi Flick.

Atletico Madrid are third after a late victory in Bilbao on Saturday while Villarreal are fourth, both of them also on eight points.

Girona are fifth after picking up their second win of the season in Seville.

Ivan Martin put Girona ahead in the 41st minute with Abel Ruiz wrapping up a 2-0 win over Sevilla with a penalty in the 73rd minute.

LaLiga: Real Madrid hand one-year extension to 'captain' Luka Modric

In the first such ruling, three fans have been sentenced to eight months in prison and banned from stadiums for two years for racially abusing Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior at Mestalla in May 2023.&nbsp;

The three fans were found guilty of a crime against moral integrity, aggravated by racially motivated discrimination under under article 173.1 of Spain's Criminal Code, according to a report in ESPN.&nbsp;

Initially, they were handed 12 months in prison and three-year stadium ban but it was reduced under a principle which see&nbsp;punishments being truncated for defendants who accept criminal responsibility.&nbsp;

"This ruling is great news regarding the fight against racism in Spain.&nbsp;It redresses the wrong suffered by Vinicius Junior and sends a clear message to those people who go to a football stadium to hurl abuse," said LaLiga president Javier Tebas after the verdict.&nbsp;

"I understand that there may be some frustration at the length of time it takes for these sentences to be handed down, but this shows that Spain is a country that guarantees judicial integrity," he added.&nbsp;

After the match, Vini took to social media to lash out at the authorities for their 'handling' of such a sensitive issue.&nbsp;

“It was not the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition considers it normal, the federation considers it normal and the rivals encourage it,” Vinicius posted on X after the game.

However, it wasn't to be the end of such incidents against Vini Jr. who was once again racially abused during the match against Sevilla in October.&nbsp;

Earlier this year, Vini&nbsp;broke down during a press conference, while talking about racism in Spain. The Brazilian said he only wanted to play football but the racism incidents around him had dwindled his love for the game.&nbsp;

Real Madrid have announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, bringing an end to a footballing transfer saga that has spanned years.&nbsp;

"Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement for which he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons," read the announcement&nbsp;by the club.&nbsp;

Mbappe took to social media and claimed that&nbsp;the move was "a dream come true" for him.&nbsp;

"So happy and proud to join the club of my dream @realmadrid. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support," Mbappe said.

The Frenchman is expected to $38 million a season, according to reports in Spain.

The news of football's 'worst-kept secret' comes a couple of days after Madrid won their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title. Earlier on Monday (Jun 3), Mbappe could be heard talking to French President&nbsp;Emmanuel Macron where he revealed that Madrid would unveil him later in the evening.&nbsp;

Mbappe departs PSG on a free transfer, meaning the French club will lose huge money on a player for whom they rejected&nbsp;over $200 million offer from Madrid in 2021.&nbsp;

Madrid may have waited a few more days to make the announcement but fastracked the process due to France coach Didier Deschamps wanting his captain's future resolved before the start of the Euros.&nbsp;

However, Mbappe could only be presented as a Real Madrid player at the Santiago Bernabeu in mid-July as France is expected to go the distance in the continental championship.&nbsp;

Madrid have already made it clear that Mbappe is their crown jewel as the board rejected France Under 21 manager Thierry Henry's request to release the player for the Paris Olympics.&nbsp;

"Real Madrid were really straightforward about the Olympics.&nbsp;The last time I received so many rejections was at the university. There have not even been negotiations. You go, you ask, they say no and you leave," said Henry in a press conference.&nbsp;

Teams in the men's competition are restricted to players aged 23 and under, but they can name a maximum of three overage&nbsp;players in the squad, which means 25-year-old Mbappe could have been included in the squad.&nbsp;
