Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has halted hiring in the microblogging platform after firing the head of revenue product Bruce Falck and consumer product leader Kayvon Beykpour.

He sent an email to the entire staff of Twitter saying it is critical to have the right leaders and assured the existing employees that the company is not planning any layoffs.

Agrawal, who is succeeding Jack Dorsey as the head of Twitter, has replaced Beykpour with Facebook's former director Jay Sullivan.

The big shakeups come as Twitter is preparing for acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk who had offered a $43 million cash deal to the company.

In response to Parag's email, Beykpour took to Twitter to express his disappointment regarding the decision.

''The truth is that this isn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn’t my decision. Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction,'' he said in a tweet.

The company plans to share more details about the project publicly later this year, product chief Kayvon Beykpour said in an interview with The Verge on Tuesday.

TweetDeck, an alternative Twitter platform owned by the social networking service, offers a number of different features, such as accessing multiple timelines in columns and scheduling tweets.

TweetDeck has not received any significant updates in the last 10 years. The platform hasn`t seen many changes in the way of design or major feature updates in years.

The app launched nearly 12 years ago and was acquired by Twitter in 2011, and it is more or less still the same vertical grid viewer for your various Twitter feeds it started as. Mostly, Twitter has ported over new functions added to its main website and mobile apps while keeping the core TweetDeck design relatively static.

Beykpour and the product team recognise that they haven`t "given TweetDeck a lot of love recently," and they are actively working on a new TweetDeck they plan to show off later this year.

The upcoming changes to the platform are a part of a broader push to improve Twitter`s developer tools and repair its relationship with app makers, with the latter being a longtime contention between Twitter and the broader software development community.

However, Beykpour did not specify whether the new TweetDeck will be released this year or simply previewed for the public. It is also unclear whether this new TweetDeck would feature a refreshed visual design, all-new features, or both. After Instagram and Facebook followed on the footsteps of Snapchat by introducing the post that appears for 24-hours only, another social media giant Twitter is also planning to introduce the same feature.

In an announcement on Thursday, Twitter said, "We are experimenting with a new way for you to 'think aloud' on Twitter, with no likes, retweets or public comments."

Twitter product lead Kayvon Beykpour said the new format could encourage people to share thoughts they might not have expressed in a permanent tweet.

"This is a substantial change to Twitter, so we're excited to learn by testing it (starting with the rollout today in Brazil) and seeing how our customers use it," Beykpour said on the micro-blogging site.

The feature is currently being tested in Brazil, according to the statement by Twitter.

A user can create a "fleet" by tapping on a plus button which appears on a new home row of ephemeral posts on top of the home timeline.

From there, the user can type up to 280 characters of text or add media including images, GIFs or any video.&nbsp;

Once published the posted fleet would appear in a side-scrolling row of posts.

These "fleet" posts can be liked, retweeted.

However, another user can respond with text but it will open up a DM with the person you're messaging.

For example, sending or interacting with tweets about a team might prompt a query over whether the user wants to "follow" that team or be kept in the know about what is being said on Twitter on the topics.

"We are going to let you directly follow topics on Twitter," said product manager Rob Bishop.

"Rather than replacing the following people, we think this will help you find new people to follow."

There will be an ability to "mute" topics to avoid seeing the score of a sporting match, for example.&nbsp;

Topics people follow will show up in their profiles as long as they are signed up for the interest.

Twitter is starting slowly, offering just a few sports options, to hone the feature before expanding to other topics, according to the teams.

Subjects designated "interests" by Twitter are meant to be lasting, such as football or cricket, rather than passing hot topics, according to Bishop.

"It is important for us to come up with a rigorous set of principles when it comes to defining topics," Beykpour said.

"We are taking this superpower very seriously."

A conversations team at Twitter has been working on ways to get people more enthusiastically engaged in meaningful exchanges, dabbling with changes while being mindful not to disrupt the lives of people who rely on the service.

"We know that Twitter is at its best with it is not just you tweeting something out as a broadcast, but engaging in that conversation or being a host for others to engage in a conversation about what you are talking about," said conversations product team member Sara Haider.

Twitter has no plans for an often requested "edit" button that would let users change posts already fire off, saying it raised complex issues and was "not anywhere near the top of our list" of things to do.
