<p>Sawant was stabbed outside his residence while he was returning home after meeting a friend in Kandivali, Mumbai.</p>

<p>As per media reports, two assailants were waiting outside his house in a vehicle and as he was barely 200 meters away from his house, they reportedly approached him and stabbed him with choppers.</p>

<p>Sawant was later taken to the nearest hospital of the area where he was declared dead by the doctors.</p>

<p>A case under section 302 of Indian Penal code has been filed.</p>

<p>Police have started investigating the case by watching CCTV footage of the area.</p>

<p>Media reports said&nbsp;that he was receiving extortion calls for a few days and&nbsp;he had complained to the police.</p>

<p>&nbsp;It is suspected that the murder was a fallout of the extortion calls.</p>
