Visually impaired swimmer Kanchanmala Pande made the nation proud by becoming the first Indian to clinch a gold medal at the World Para-Swimming Championship in Mexico.&nbsp;

Pande, who works as a government employee, secured the top spot in 200 meters medley event in the S-11 category.&nbsp;

As per reports, the 26-year old swimmer was confident enough to win a medal during the championship but didn&rsquo;t expect to finish first and win a gold medal.&nbsp;

Pande was the only female swimmer from the country to have qualified for the World Championships that started on December 2.

Unfortunately, Pande missed the top three finish by a whisker in 100 meters freestyle and came fourth.

Kanchanmala Pande is the same athlete who was forced to borrow money and was fined for travelling without a ticket on public transport in&nbsp;Berlin&nbsp;after she was not given enough money by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) during the Berlin event in July.
