In a major breakthrough in India-US defence relations, the Congress in Washington on Wednesday (August 30) cleared GE Aerospace's agreement with state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.

India is poised to sign a new major agreement with France after concluding a number of significant agreements with the United States of America. This time, Paris has approved Defence Major Saffron's request to jointly design, develop, test, and manufacture an engine with India. This engine will power the twin-engine Advanced multi-role combat aircraft and the twin-engine deck-based Fighter for Indian aircraft carriers.
