<p>Sources also informed that Ghazi is said to have fought in Afghanistan and was handpicked by JeM chief Masood Azhar. Ghazi is believed to be an expert in Improvised Explosive Device (IED)</p>

<p>As per sources, the motive of the attack was to avenge the death of Azhar's nephews.</p>

<p>The trade touched historic high despite bilateral tensions over a number of issues including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, China blocking India&#39;s efforts to bring about a UN ban on Jaish-e-Mohammad leader Masood Azhar, Beijing blocking India&#39;s entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) as well as the military standoff at Doklam lasting 73 days.</p>

<p>The bilateral trade stagnated around $70 billion for several years despite the leaders of both the countries setting $100 billion as a target for 2015.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Though it is still about $20 billion short, officials on both sides expect trade and Chinese investments in India to pick up further this year as both the governments are trying to scale down tensions and step-up the normalisation process.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit China in June this year to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao. Reciprocal visits by Chinese leaders too are expected to take place this year.</p>

<p>As per the Chinese trade data, India&#39;s exports to China increased by 39.11 per cent year-on-year to $16.34 billion last year. India&#39;s imports from China increased by 14.59 per cent to $68.10 billion.</p>

<p>India has emerged as the seventh largest export destination for Chinese products, and the 24th largest exporter to China.</p>

<p>Significantly, diamonds along with copper, iron ore, organic chemicals and cotton yarn contributed to the increase Indian exports to China.</p>

<p>India&#39;s exports of diamonds grew 4.93 per cent totalling to $2.59 billion. India was the second largest exporter of diamonds to China with a market share of 33.06 per cent after South Africa.</p>

<p>Also, Indian exports of copper registered a significant increase of 115.78 per cent to reach $2.15 billion.</p>

<p>India&#39;s cotton including yarn and woven fabric exports to China showed an increase of 1.86 per cent to reach $1.30 billion. India was the second largest exporter of cotton to China with 15.04 per cent market share last year.</p>

<p>India&#39;s exports of Zinc to China showed a sharp increase of 802 per cent to reach $240 million.&nbsp;</p>

<p>China&#39;s exports, on the other hand, were dominated by electrical machinery and equipment registering an increase of 28.23 percent to $21.77 billion.</p>

<p>India was the largest destination for China&#39;s fertilizers exports registering 16.98 per cent of its total fertilizers worth $1.03 billion to India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Pakistan government&#39;s claim of having banned the Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) and the Falah-e-Insaniat (FIF) and of having seized all offices and charities run by these organisations has proven to be false, as video evidence reveals that these charities are very much active.</p>

<p>The charities of the JuD and the FIF, which the United States claims are terrorist fronts, including over 300 seminaries, schools, hospitals, a publishing house and ambulance services all across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.</p>

<p>These charities are headed by Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who has been designated a terrorist by the United Nations and had a USD 10 million bounty on him by the U.S. in 2012.</p>

<p>The video evidence shows that these offices of the JuD and the FIF are running in Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Muzaffarabad.</p>

<p>Abu Hurraira, a senior JuD functionary based in Bahawalpur, has strongly criticized the government for banning charitable activities and deeni (religious) activities of the JuD and FIF as well as replacing signboards of these organisations with those of Auqaf boards.</p>

<p>He said, &quot;The government has banned on the charitable activities and religious activities of JuD and FIF and replaced signboards with those of Auqaf boards over madrassas, hospitals and schools. Punjab Government officials were saying that as the JuD has been banned by the UN, so they were obliged to obey the instructions of their seniors. The JuD and FIF have been doing relief work in Kashmir and Tharparkar. They are doing service to the humanity and to provide help to common people. The JuD and FIF under its relief activities have recovered ten dead bodies from rivers and also saved several people from drowning&quot;.</p>

<p>He added, &quot;FIF people are performing relief activities in such areas where no one dares to go and reaches out first at the place of incident to provide relief and rescue to the affected people. We don&#39;t know under whose pressure the government is doing such things against the JuD and FIF. Thousands of people are attached with the JuD, so, there is an apprehension that several people will lose their jobs. They (JuD/FIF) have been told not to conduct their programs and also not to collect funds. As a result, people will remain hungry and start dying due to hunger&quot;.</p>

<p>Hurraira blamed the Pakistan government for targeting JuD and FIF and raised questions over its failure to run its own institutions properly. He said, &quot;We were standing behind the downtrodden community. The Government in itself is unable to run its own institutions and wondered how it would manage their (JuD and FIF) schools, hospitals and madrassas&quot;.</p>

<p>The boards of the JuD and the FIF have been removed from several places. Masjid Aqsa in Bhawalpur has been taken over by the Auqaf department, the Government of Punjab, whereas FIF&#39;s free dispensary at Chakra Road in Rawalpindi has been taken over by the health department of the Punjab government.</p>

<p>In reality, these facilities in Punjab province have been taken over by the government only from outside, as JuD personnel continue to function from inside albeit with a reduced presence.</p>

<p>However, in Sindh and Balochistan, the Pakistan government seems to have taken firm action against the JuD due to local compulsions.</p>

The Pakistan government's claim of having banned the Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) and the Falah-e-Insaniat (FIF) and of having seized all offices and charities run by these organisations has proven to be false, as video evidence reveals that these charities are very much active. The charities of the JuD and the FIF, which the United States claims are terrorist fronts, including over 300 seminaries, schools, hospitals, a publishing house and ambulance services all across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These charities are headed by Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who has been designated a terrorist by the United Nations and had a USD 10 million bounty on him by the U.S. in 2012. The video evidence shows that these offices of the JuD and the FIF are running in Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Muzaffarabad. Abu Hurraira, a senior JuD functionary based in Bahawalpur, has strongly criticized the government for banning charitable activities and deeni (religious) activities of the JuD and FIF as well as replacing signboards of these organisations with those of Auqaf boards. He said, "The government has banned on the charitable activities and religious activities of JuD and FIF and replaced signboards with those of Auqaf boards over madrassas, hospitals and schools. Punjab Government officials were saying that as the JuD has been banned by the UN, so they were obliged to obey the instructions of their seniors. The JuD and FIF have been doing relief work in Kashmir and Tharparkar. They are doing service to the humanity and to provide help to common people. The JuD and FIF under its relief activities have recovered ten dead bodies from rivers and also saved several people from drowning". He added, "FIF people are performing relief activities in such areas where no one dares to go and reaches out first at the place of incident to provide relief and rescue to the affected people. We don't know under whose pressure the government is doing such things against the JuD and FIF. Thousands of people are attached with the JuD, so, there is an apprehension that several people will lose their jobs. They (JuD/FIF) have been told not to conduct their programs and also not to collect funds. As a result, people will remain hungry and start dying due to hunger". Hurraira blamed the Pakistan government for targeting JuD and FIF and raised questions over its failure to run its own institutions properly. He said, "We were standing behind the downtrodden community. The Government in itself is unable to run its own institutions and wondered how it would manage their (JuD and FIF) schools, hospitals and madrassas". The boards of the JuD and the FIF have been removed from several places. Masjid Aqsa in Bhawalpur has been taken over by the Auqaf department, the Government of Punjab, whereas FIF's free dispensary at Chakra Road in Rawalpindi has been taken over by the health department of the Punjab government. In reality, these facilities in Punjab province have been taken over by the government only from outside, as JuD personnel continue to function from inside albeit with a reduced presence. However, in Sindh and Balochistan, the Pakistan government seems to have taken firm action against the JuD due to local compulsions. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats&#39; remarks came days after a group of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists struck the Sunjuwan Military Camp in Jammu on Saturday, killing seven people including six soldiers.</p>

<p>Pakistan, in fact, will continue to threaten US interests by deploying new nuclear weapons capabilities, maintaining its ties to militants, restricting counterterrorism cooperation, and drawing closer to China, Coats said in his testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.</p>

<p>&quot;Militant groups supported by Islamabad will continue to take advantage of their safe haven in Pakistan to plan and conduct attacks in India and Afghanistan, including against US interests,&quot; Coats said during the hearing on &#39;Worldwide Threat Assessment&#39; of the US intelligence community.</p>

<p>He said Pakistan&rsquo;s perception of its eroding position relative to India, reinforced by endemic economic weakness and domestic security issues, almost certainly will exacerbate long-held fears of isolation and drive Islamabad&rsquo;s pursuit of actions that run counter to US goals for the region.</p>

<p>Without specifically referring to any terrorist incident by Pakistan-based groups, Coats told the lawmakers that he expects tension between the two Asian neighbours.</p>

Pakistan-backed militants to continue attacks inside India: US

<p>The body of another Army soldier - the sixth martyr - has been recovered from the encounter site inside the Sunjuwan Military camp in Jammu, taking the death toll in the terror attack to 10, including three terrorists of the JeM.</p>

<p>The body of the Army jawan was recovered during the clearance operation at the camp on Monday night, Jammu-based Army Public Relation Officer Lt Col Devender Anand said.</p>

<p>A group of heavily-armed men struck the sprawling camp of the 36 brigade of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry before dawn on February 10, killing six people including five soldiers.</p>

<p>Five Army personnel, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, and the father of one of the slain soldiers, were killed and 10 others, including two officers and six women and children, were injured in the incident.</p>

<p>The bodies of the three terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were also recovered along with huge cache of arms and ammunition during the search operation.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Lt Col Anand said Chief Minsiter Mehbooba Mufti is attending the wreath-laying ceremony of the four slain soldiers, belonging to the Kashmir Valley, at the airport here.</p>

<p>He said that the mortal remains of four Kashmiri soldiers and the civilian would be flown to Srinagar after the wreath- laying ceremony around 11 am and thereafter to their native places for burial.</p>

<p>Can China be a trusted ally in the global war against terrorism? The question assumes significance as China continues&nbsp;giving steadfast protection to the chief of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad Masood Azhar. The country has gone so far as to prevent&nbsp;the United Nations Security Council from declaring Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.</p>

<p>India has accused the JeM and its top leader, Masood Azhar, of masterminding several attacks, including a deadly assault on an Indian air base in January last year. Six Indian soldiers, as well as five gunmen who stormed the Pathankot airbase, were killed.</p>

<p>China&rsquo;s opposition to proscribing Azhar is perplexing given that Jaish-e-Mohammad has already been blacklisted by the 15-nation Security Council of which China is one of the five permanent members. If China is party to the decision to outlaw JeM, then its decision not to let its leader bracket in the same category is beyond any logic.</p>

<p>It is high time the United Nations reconsider its original charter which gives veto power to five permanent members under which any one permanent nation can prevent the adoption of any substantive resolution. The rule of the majority of the five permanent members should follow. Otherwise, the international community will always be found wanting in its fight against terrorism due to double standards by some countries.</p>

<p>This is the second time in as many years that China has blocked a combined bid by the United States, France and the United Kingdom to declare Azhar a global terrorist saying &ldquo;there is no consensus&rdquo; in the 1267 Committee of the UN Security Council. &nbsp;Where is the question of consensus if one country (read China) continues with its unwavering support for a dreaded terrorist like Azhar just only to please its ally Pakistan? Evidently, China is the lone wolf in the Security Council.</p>

<p>Last year also, it was the odd nation out in the 15-member Security Council to thwart India&rsquo;s bid to place Azhar on the 1267 sanctions list that would have entailed his travel ban and freezing of assets. India&rsquo;s application had the approval of all the other 14 members of the Security Council. Needless to say, China is misusing its veto power.</p>

<p>China&rsquo;s support for Azhar, therefore, raises suspicion about its commitment to fight terrorism. Barely a few months ago, it was a signatory to the Xiamen Declaration which had called upon the international community to establish a &quot;genuinely broad&quot; international counter-terrorism coalition. Not only that, it was also a party to a decision of the five-member BRICS nations summit which called for decisive action against militant groups based in Pakistan terming them as a security concern in the region.</p>

<p>The groups named in the declaration included Taliban, (Islamic State), Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, including Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e Mohammad, TTP and Hizb ut-Tahrir. Both Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad are anti-India groups based in Pakistan and have routinely carried out militant attacks in Kashmir and elsewhere in the country.</p>

<p>India has accused LeT of carrying out the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008 in which at least 166 people were killed. JeM is also accused of masterminding the audacious attack on Indian Parliament in 2001. Masood Azhar is undoubtedly the prized asset for Pakistan. Not only has he meticulously planned several terrorist attacks against India, he has succeeded in creating an army of jihadis who are ready to lay down their lives at his command.</p>

<p>His importance lies in the fact that&nbsp;Pakistan government along with its army and notorious Inter-Services Intelligence had made several attempts to get him released from a jail after he was arrested in Kashmir in 1994. Five years later, the Indian government was forced to release him and two others - Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and Omar Sheikh -&nbsp;in exchange for the safe release of passengers of the Indian Airlines flight -814 which was hijacked and taken to Kandahar in Afghanistan.</p>

<p>If Azhar is declared a global terrorist, the government of Pakistan will be forced to arrest him and seize his assets. This is something the government does not want for two main reasons. Azhar has in the past threatened the government of violence if it made any such misadventure. Secondly, he enjoys the support of the Pakistani army.</p>

<p>Therefore, the Pakistani establishment is cagey while taking any action against him, because it does not have the spine to challenge its own army. China, too, understands the predicament of its all-weather ally. &nbsp;Therefore, it has been repeatedly blocking any attempt to outlaw Azhar even at the expense of its own image. For, China has in the past made several statements that there should be no double standards on counter-terrorism. China&rsquo;s action belies its alleged commitment against terrorism.</p>

<p>It should be understood that China has its own compulsions as far as protecting Azhar is concerned. It is more to do with returning favours to Pakistan. Pakistan has in the past come to the rescue of China in the powerful Organisation of Islamic Cooperation which was critical of the latter&rsquo;s repression of the Muslim Uighur community in Xinjiang province.</p>

<p>In the last two years, hundreds have died in unrest in Xinjiang. Activists have accused China of curtailing commercial as well as cultural activities of Uighur. In fact, a 2013 report of the Amnesty International was highly critical of China&rsquo;s handling of the situation in Xinjiang. It said authorities criminalised &ldquo;what they labelled &lsquo;illegal religious&rsquo; and &lsquo;separatist&rsquo; activities&rdquo; and clamped down on &ldquo;peaceful expressions of cultural identity.&rdquo;</p>

<p>As far as terrorism is concerned, China&rsquo;s definition is completely at variant with the world. While the world recognises the exiled Dalai Lama as the Tibetan spiritual leader, China considers him as a &ldquo;dangerous separatist&rdquo;. The Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who fled into exile in India in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, has repeatedly said that he is simply seeking genuine autonomy for his homeland.</p>

<p>China is accused of turning a blind eye to more than 150 Tibetans who have publicly immolated themselves over the years. Beijing is miffed with New Delhi for allowing Dalai Lama live in India. And that is also one of the reasons why it has been stonewalling New Delhi&rsquo;s attempts to sanction Azhar to get even with it.</p>

<p>It is amply clear that China does not want to walk along with the rest of the world in the fight against terrorism. It chooses to define terrorists according to its own understanding as has been the case with Pakistan. It is high time China realises the perils of differentiating between terrorists. Otherwise, it risks global isolation.</p>

Otherwise, the international community will always be found wanting in its fight against terrorism due to double standards by some countries. China is the lone wolf in the Security Council. × This is the second time in as many years that China has blocked a combined bid by the United States, France and the United Kingdom to declare Azhar a global terrorist saying “there is no consensus” in the 1267 Committee of the UN Security Council. Where is the question of consensus if one country (read China) continues with its unwavering support for a dreaded terrorist like Azhar just only to please its ally Pakistan? Evidently, China is the lone wolf in the Security Council. Last year also, it was the odd nation out in the 15-member Security Council to thwart India’s bid to place Azhar on the 1267 sanctions list that would have entailed his travel ban and freezing of assets. India’s application had the approval of all the other 14 members of the Security Council. Needless to say, China is misusing its veto power. China’s support for Azhar, therefore, raises suspicion about its commitment to fight terrorism. Barely a few months ago, it was a signatory to the Xiamen Declaration which had called upon the international community to establish a "genuinely broad" international counter-terrorism coalition. Not only that, it was also a party to a decision of the five-member BRICS nations summit which called for decisive action against militant groups based in Pakistan terming them as a security concern in the region. Both Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad are anti-India groups based in Pakistan and have routinely carried out militant attacks in Kashmir and elsewhere in the country. × The groups named in the declaration included Taliban, (Islamic State), Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, including Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e Mohammad, TTP and Hizb ut-Tahrir. Both Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad are anti-India groups based in Pakistan and have routinely carried out militant attacks in Kashmir and elsewhere in the country. India has accused LeT of carrying out the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008 in which at least 166 people were killed. JeM is also accused of masterminding the audacious attack on Indian Parliament in 2001. Masood Azhar is undoubtedly the prized asset for Pakistan. Not only has he meticulously planned several terrorist attacks against India, he has succeeded in creating an army of jihadis who are ready to lay down their lives at his command. His importance lies in the fact that Pakistan government along with its army and notorious Inter-Services Intelligence had made several attempts to get him released from a jail after he was arrested in Kashmir in 1994. Five years later, the Indian government was forced to release him and two others - Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and Omar Sheikh - in exchange for the safe release of passengers of the Indian Airlines flight -814 which was hijacked and taken to Kandahar in Afghanistan. If Azhar is declared a global terrorist, the government of Pakistan will be forced to arrest him and seize his assets. × If Azhar is declared a global terrorist, the government of Pakistan will be forced to arrest him and seize his assets. This is something the government does not want for two main reasons. Azhar has in the past threatened the government of violence if it made any such misadventure. Secondly, he enjoys the support of the Pakistani army. Therefore, the Pakistani establishment is cagey while taking any action against him, because it does not have the spine to challenge its own army. China, too, understands the predicament of its all-weather ally. Therefore, it has been repeatedly blocking any attempt to outlaw Azhar even at the expense of its own image. For, China has in the past made several statements that there should be no double standards on counter-terrorism. China’s action belies its alleged commitment against terrorism. It should be understood that China has its own compulsions as far as protecting Azhar is concerned. It is more to do with returning favours to Pakistan. Pakistan has in the past come to the rescue of China in the powerful Organisation of Islamic Cooperation which was critical of the latter’s repression of the Muslim Uighur community in Xinjiang province. In the last two years, hundreds have died in unrest in Xinjiang. Activists have accused China of curtailing commercial as well as cultural activities of Uighur. In fact, a 2013 report of the Amnesty International was highly critical of China’s handling of the situation in Xinjiang. It said authorities criminalised “what they labelled ‘illegal religious’ and ‘separatist’ activities” and clamped down on “peaceful expressions of cultural identity.” China does not want to walk along with the rest of the world in the fight against terrorism. × As far as terrorism is concerned, China’s definition is completely at variant with the world. While the world recognises the exiled Dalai Lama as the Tibetan spiritual leader, China considers him as a “dangerous separatist”. The Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who fled into exile in India in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, has repeatedly said that he is simply seeking genuine autonomy for his homeland. China is accused of turning a blind eye to more than 150 Tibetans who have publicly immolated themselves over the years. Beijing is miffed with New Delhi for allowing Dalai Lama live in India. And that is also one of the reasons why it has been stonewalling New Delhi’s attempts to sanction Azhar to get even with it. It is amply clear that China does not want to walk along with the rest of the world in the fight against terrorism. It chooses to define terrorists according to its own understanding as has been the case with Pakistan. It is high time China realises the perils of differentiating between terrorists. J&K: 2 JeM hideouts busted by security forces in Pulwama

<p>Egypt will initiate a trial against 292 jihadist suspects for plotting to assassinate&nbsp;President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the Saudi crown prince.</p>

<p>The suspects are also accused of launching a series of deadly attacks in the Sinai peninsula, a prosecution official said on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The undertrials, who have alleged links with Islamic State terrorist organisation in the Middle East, have been involved in leading an insurrection in the Sinai.</p>

<p>All the 292 suspects were involved in the assassination plots to kill Sisi and the Saudi Prince, the official said, of which&nbsp;66 have confessed to their role during intense interrogations.</p>

<p>Two plots were made to kill Sisi -- one when he was in a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia and the other time was in Cairo.</p>

<p>The suspects allegedly also planned to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef in the Gulf kingdom and five Egyptian judges.</p>

<p>The prosecution official did not elaborate on the plan.</p>

<p>Most of the suspects are disgruntled former police officers who were dismissed for following jihadist ideology.</p>

<p>The prosecution also accuses the suspects of attacking army and police checkpoints and bases in the Sinai, and of responsibility for a February 2014 attack on a bus carrying South Korean tourists in the south Sinai tourist resort of Taba that killed three holidaymakers.</p>

<p>The army has been battling an Islamist insurgency in northern Sinai which escalated after the military overthrew Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.</p>

The US Commander said military training by India to thousands of Afghan security personnel has helped that country in significantly enhancing its military capability which is in tune with the objective of the NATO and the US.
