After Israel's pre-emptive strikes, Hezbollah also announced it had launched attacks in northern Israel. Hezbollah said it had launched 'more than 320' Katyusha rockets while Israel claimed only 220 rockets and around 20 drones were fired.&nbsp;

Washington believes that Tel Aviv will never be able to completely wipe out Hamas and that more bombings only increase the risk of civilian casualties.&nbsp;

“Israel has been able to disrupt Hamas, kill a number of their leaders and largely reduce the threat to Israel that existed before October 7,” Gen. Joseph L. Votel, former head of US Central Command was quoted as saying by the publication.&nbsp;

A former senior CIA official added that Hamas was largely depleted in the region but nowhere near being wiped out off the map.&nbsp;

However, the Israeli side has refuted the claims saying there were gains still to be made on the ground in Gaza.&nbsp;

“If Israel evacuates its forces now, within a year, Hamas will be strong again,” said&nbsp;Yaakov Amidror, a retired IDF major general, who added that the military needs another two to three months in central and southern Gaza.&nbsp;

The White House has approved $20 billion in fighter jets and other military equipment for Israel as the ongoing war with Gaza ceases to end with Iran threatening another conflict.&nbsp;

According to the Pentagon, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken approved the sale of more than 50 F-15 jets and equipment worth nearly $19 billion including $774 million in tank cartridges, $60 million in explosive mortar cartridges and army vehicles worth $583 million. However, the deliveries of the said equipment would not begin for years.&nbsp;

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US&nbsp;national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defence capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives,” the State Department said in a release on the sale.

Notably, the contracts for the f-15 jets will not only include the sale but also upgrade kits for Israel to modify its existing fleet of fighter jets. The first deliveries are expected in 2029.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant thanked the White House officials for the announcement and vowed to remain committed to the US-Israeli relationship.&nbsp;

However, the plan could not be executed due to the large crowds gathered in the building which increased the possibility of failure.&nbsp;

Later, two agents placed the explosive devices in the IRGC&nbsp;guesthouse in north Tehran where Haniyeh was staying. CCTV footage showed the agents entering and exiting multiple rooms within minutes, according to officials.&nbsp;

The agents then snuck out of Iran but still had a source in Tehran. After confirmation that Haniyeh was in one of the rooms, the explosive was detonated from abroad.&nbsp;

The incident has led to fissures within the IRGC, with different sectors accusing each other of the failure,

US to provide more arms to Israel amid triple threat of Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah ?

The Israeli military confirmed on Thursday (Aug 1) that&nbsp;Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas' military wing, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza last month. Israel confirms Hamas military leader Deif’s death in airstrike, day after Haniyeh's assassination

The sudden and devastating terror attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7 gave Israel what it called its "9/11 moment". The mastermind who planned this massive assault and gave&nbsp;the operation the name "Al Aqsa Flood" was Mohammed Deif, a Palestinian militant and Israel's most wanted man.&nbsp;

As Hamas fired thousands of rockets from the Gaza strip on Saturday (Oct 7), an audio tape broadcast used the phrase Israel's most wanted man which clearly hinted that the attack was a retaliation for raids carried out at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque by Israel.

<h2>Planning Operation Al Aqsa Flood&nbsp;</h2>

In May 2021, after an Israeli raid carried out on Al Aqsa mosque enraged the Arab and Muslim world, Deif started planning the operation this past weekend, which led to the killing of 1,200 Israelis and injured more than 2,700, as per Reuters.

"It was triggered by scenes and footage of Israel storming Al Aqsa mosque during Ramadan, beating worshippers, attacking them, dragging elderly and young men out of the mosque. All this fuelled and ignited the anger," stated a source in Gaza.&nbsp;

Deif, who has survived seven Israeli assassination attempts - the most recent to have taken place in 2021 - speaks rarely and has never appeared in public. However, on Saturday he spoke to the Palestinians through Hamas' TV channel, signalling something significant was to take place.

"Today the rage of Al Aqsa, the rage of our people and nation is exploding. Our mujahedeen (fighters), today is your day to make this criminal understand that his time has ended," Deif was heard saying in the recording.

In the public domain, only three images of Deif are available - one in his 20s, another of him masked, and the third one is the image of his shadow, which the TV used when broadcasting the audio tape.

The militant's whereabouts are unknown, although he is most likely staying inside Gaza under the enclave. An Israeli security source stated that Deif had direct involvement in the operational and planning aspects of the attack.

As per reports, one of the homes hit in the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza belonged to the father of Deif. Deif's two other family members and brother were killed in the attack.&nbsp;

Deif, the commander of Hamas' Al Qassam Brigades and Yehya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, took the decision to plan and execute the attack, according to reports. 
 
However, Deif was said to be the architect of the attack. &nbsp;

Addressing the people in a calm voice, Deif, in his recording, said that Israel has been repeatedly warned by Hamas to end its crimes against Palestinians and release the prisoners, who he claimed were tortured and abused, and to stop its expropriation of Palestinian land.

"Every day the occupation storm our villages, towns and cities in the West Bank and raid houses, kill, injure, destroy and detain. At the same time, it confiscates thousands of acres of our land, uproots our people from their houses to build settlements while its criminal siege continues on Gaza," he said.&nbsp;

Deif was born in 1965 in the Khan Yunis Refugee Camp, which was established after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

He was born as Mohammad Masri and later came to be known as Mohammed Deif after he joined Hamas during the first Palestinian uprising or Intifada, which started in 1987.

Israel arrested Deif in1989 after which he spent about 16 months in detention, said a Hamas source, reported Reuters.

Deif completed a degree in science from the Islamic University in Gaza, where he studied biology, chemistry and physics.&nbsp;

He was also interested in arts and headed the entertainment committee of the university and performed comedy plays on the stage.&nbsp;

In an Israeli air strike carried out in 2014, his wife, seven-month-old son, and three-year-old daughter were killed.

Between Iran and Gaza: How Israel pushed forward to decimate Hamas before Haniyeh's killing

At least ten people were killed on the&nbsp;Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday (Jul 27) after the town of&nbsp;Majdal Shams was hit by a barrage of rockets fired from Lebanon, reported news agency AFP.

Eli Bin, head of the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service, earlier reported that&nbsp;nine people had been killed and 34 wounded including 17 in critical condition.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said approximately 30 projectiles were fired from Lebanon.&nbsp;“A short while ago, sirens sounded in the area of Majdal Shams. One projectile was identified crossing from Lebanon toward the area. A hit was identified in the area. Injuries were reported,” the IDF said.

It was not immediately clear who fired the projectiles, with Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah firmly denying its involvement.

“The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon firmly denies the allegations made by some enemy media outlets and various media platforms regarding the targeting of Majdal Shams,” it said in a Telegram channel on Saturday.

The IDF on the other hand, blamed Hezbollah for the attack.

"The Hezbollah terrorist organisation is behind the rocket launch at a soccer field in Majdal Shams," the Israeli army said in a statement.

Meanwhile, local police said&nbsp;munitions have fallen in “multiple sites in the northern Golan.”

The Israeli PM and&nbsp;the Republican presidential&nbsp;candidate&nbsp;met a day after Netanyahu met with Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running against Trump in the upcoming November&nbsp;elections.

At least 24 Palestinians were killed in three separate airstrikes launched by Israeli forces on the Gaza City early on Tuesday (June 25).

According to the Gaza health officials and medics, one of the deceased was Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh's sister.

The Israeli air offensive also targeted two schools in the Gaza city that were sheltering internally displaced people. This claimed the lives of at least 14 people, said the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strikes were aimed at "terrorists operating inside two structures" and that the targets were "terrorists involved in holding hostages.”&nbsp;

IDF released a statement saying that the "aerial surveillance checks, precise munitions, and additional intelligence measures were all used in order to mitigate harm to civilians."

Israel also bombarded a house in the Shati (Beach) refugee camp killing 10 people.

The house reportedly belonged to the Hamas leader's extended family.

"They were 10 individuals, three of them were scattered outside the house and seven under the rubble - with no prior warning, with people around them, and there are injuries among the neighbours," Hassan Kaskin, a neighbour, told news agency Reuters.

The European Union on Monday (June 24) reached a political agreement on imposing further sanctions against Palestinian militant group Hamas and violent Israeli settlers.

"It has been a political agreement on proceeding on the sanctions against Hamas and also violent Israeli settlers. This political agreement will be converted into concrete measures to be adopted soon by written procedure," the European Union's chief diplomat Josep Borrell said.

Ahead of a foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg, Borrell told reporters that the Middle East was close to witnessing the expansion of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon in the coming days.

His remarks came just days after the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group threatened Cyprus.
