US President Joe Biden has condemned Iran's brazen attack on Israel. The US President's statement came in after Netanyahu's phone call. Biden has reaffirmed his ironclad commitment. Iran attacks Israel | US President Joe Biden reaffirms 'Ironclad' commitment

Iran said that it had informed its neighbouring countries about its retaliatory strikes on Israel almost 72 hours in advance.

“About 72 hours prior to our operations, we informed our friends and neighbours in the region that Iran’s response against Israel was certain, legitimate, and irrevocable,” Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said at a press briefing after his meeting with foreign ambassadors in Tehran on Sunday (April 14).

Amirabdollahian further said that Tehran had notified the United States that its attacks launched against Israel would be "limited" and for self-defence purposes.

Iran on Saturday (Apr 13) launched an unprecedented attack against Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that killed seven officers, including a senior commander of the IRGC. Israeli residents in Jerusalem said they did not want a war with Iran. A report by the news agency Reuters said that Israel reported modest damage and reopened its airspace.

The authorities instructed citizens not to hold gatherings of more than 100 people, to close all schools and venues for children's camps during the spring break for the Jewish holiday of Passover, and to close some beach and travel sites.

This conflict between Iran and Israel comes as Israel has been already fighting a war with Hamas since early October last year. Later on Sunday, the Israeli war cabinet will discuss a response to the Iranian attack.

Israel 'prepared for every scenario,' says Netanyahu

Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement saying that Israel was prepared for an attack by Iran further adding that it was ready "for any scenario" as Iran launched dozens of drones.

"In recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran. Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively," Netanyahu said in a televised address.

President Joe Biden in a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told him that the US won't participate in any counter-strike against Iran, according to media reports. The US President and senior members of his national security team are worried that following the barrage of Iranian missiles and drones directed toward Israel, Israel will take some action that would lead to a regional war. On Saturday (April 13) in a conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Biden sought to frame Israel’s successful interception of the Iranian onslaught as a major victory and suggested that further Israeli response was unnecessary, a senior administration official told CNN. “You got a win. Take the win,” Biden told Netanyahu according to media reports. Biden told the Israeli prime minister in his phone call that he should consider Saturday a win because Iran’s attacks had been largely unsuccessful and demonstrated Israel’s superior military capability, a senior administration official said. Also read: Iran’s drone swarm shows adventurism that hides a diplomatic disaster for the Palestinian cause John Kirby, the White House national security spokesperson, stated that Israel's ability to thwart the assault showed its "military superiority" and that Iran was not the "military power that they claim to be." “This was an incredible success, really proving Israel’s military superiority and just as critically, their diplomatic superiority, that they have friends in the region, that they have around the world that are willing to help them,” he told CNN. “I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks — sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel,” US President said in a statement following his conversation with Netanyahu. Lloyd Austin, US Defense Secretary told Israel to notify the US ahead of any potential response to the Iranian attack, according to another US official. Why did Iran launch an attack on Israel? Iran launched the attack in retaliation for an airstrike in Syria on April 1 that killed seven Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members. Israel has not confirmed or disputed responsibility. It was Iran's first-ever direct strike on Israel, using over 300 drones and missiles. (With inputs from agencies)
